Proof

"Rich…" he mumbled, "I have struck it rich! If I sell this machine, how much money would I get in return?"

But then Roy came to his senses, and realized that no one would believe him if he spread the news. Furthermore, he can't just go to the city and sell this stopwatch openly; otherwise, the police would recognize him.

"No, no," he said, shaking his head, "I can't sell it. Even if no one recognizes me, it's still a big risk. I will keep it, I will keep it."

"Keep what?" came a pleasant voice from behind that startled him, waking him up from his trance.

He turned his head and saw a beautiful young woman, with long brown hair that was tied from behind. She covered her blue eyes with sunglasses. She wore dirty men clothes, but that gave her a special charm. Her face was a little dirty, but she just left it there.

Roy turned his head and said, "Next time, would you please cough before giving me a heart attack, Lynne? You startled me!"

Lynne chuckled and said, "What do you want to keep, Roy?"

Roy instinctively put the stopwatch in his pocket and said, "That's none of your business."

"None of my business, eh? Alright then, when you need to shake off the police officers chasing you next time, I won't be there."

Roy sighed and said, "Okay, I found a time travel machine."

Lynne immediately started laughing and occasionally pointed at Roy, mocking him, "A time travel machine? Hahhahha, really? Hahaha! What, did someone hit you on your head? Hahahaha!"

But Roy didn't laugh, he just looked at his only friend. When the news spread about him murdering his parents, no one would talk to him, not even his girlfriend and 'best friend'.

However, a year ago, Roy and Lynne found themselves fleeing from the police together. This formed some kind of friendship between the two. When Roy would be chased, Lynne would distract the officers by doing other forbidden things. And if Lynne was in trouble, he would do the same for her.

Roy did not say a thing as he waited for Lynne to stop laughing. Finally, she calmed down and saw his serious expression. "Wait," she said while frowning, "you weren't joking?"

"No," replied Roy. "I really found one. And I have accidentally traveled to the future."

"Oookaay," she said. "You really need to see a doctor, Roy."

"I am not lying, Lynne! Stop saying that! Why would I lie to you anyway?"

"Why? Because the words you were saying don't make any sense. That's why. And that's not your first lie either ways."

"Oh really? When did I lie to you, Ms either ways?"

"When you told me about your parents. Remember? You told me that your father was the one that killed your mother and then killed himself, right? Well I tell you now, I don't believe it. Your story is as fractured as this one."

"I told you a million times! It was not…" shouted Roy then calmed down and said, "Oh forget it. No one believes me anyways, what's one more?"

"Sorry, that was harsh," she said. "I am prepared to believe that time travel is real…"

"Really?" exclaimed Roy, raising one eyebrow.

"... when you prove your story to me."

"Ohh." Suddenly, he heard footsteps far behind them.

"You brought company?" he asked.

"Ummm," she made an 'Oops' expression, "I forgot about that."

"Oh dear… Okay let's run and shake them off while we still can. By the way, do you have a spare gun?"

"Yes, here you go," she handed him a gun then continued, "Are you hungry?"

"Starving. Let's steal some food and talk somewhere more private."

With that, they ran off towards the city, stole some food, and Lynne led Roy to another empty district which had only one house.

The house was crooked and half destroyed. But there were still rooms that were intact. They entered a room which had a bed.

"Behold! My heaven!" exclaimed Lynne, spreading her hands.

Roy snickered, sat down, and started eating silently. He finished before Lynne, but still waited for her to finish.

Finally, when she finished eating, he pulled out the stop watch and showed it to her. She looked at it strangely and attempted to snatch it from his hand.

But Roy was faster from her as he retracted it. "I just want to see it!!" she said angrily.

"Don't use robbery tricks on a robber," he answered calmly.

"Okay, I admit. I was trying to steal it from you. Now try it, let us travel to the future, if you were speaking the truth."

"Of course I was telling the truth. But I don't know if the process will work on two people."

"We'll only find out when we try."

She approached him and sat next to him, holding his forearm. She often did that, just to annoy him. She knew that Roy didn't like to be touched.

Roy looked at her from the corner of his eye, but said nothing. If he did, then he would have accomplished what Lynne wanted.

He turned the button on the top of the watch to the left, and immediately, the pointers started to rotate in a clockwise manner. They were followed by ripples, which surrounded them.

When everything returned to normal, Roy and Lynne were sitting inside a modern room. It was empty, but the walls were painted in white. Furthermore, there were lights.

"Holy sh*t!!", exclaimed Lynne as she examined the room. "It worked! We traveled in time!"

"Told you," said Roy, still surprised that the machine actually worked. He was afraid that it wouldn't, and all that he experienced before was just a dream.

But now, this additional travel proved him right! He wasn't dreaming when he traveled forward and back in time! All was true!

"This place is so cool! I haven't seen light in a room for many years!" continued Lynne.

"Who's there?" shouted a masculine voice from outside the room.

"Quick, take my hand," whispered Roy. Lynne did as he told her and instantly, they disappeared from the room, returning to timeline.

Just when they disappeared, the door of the room slid open as a muscular man entered. However, he didn't find anything. Behind him, another man appeared and said with a mocking voice, "Oh where did the ghosts go? Ah yes, they weren't even here!"

"Oh shut up," said the first man, "I swear that I heard voices coming from this room!"

"Yeah yeah. Now come, we still have work to do."

The muscular man reluctantly left, and then door closed behind him.
