Silent Confrontation

"Grandfather, I come over to receive my punishment," Lin Xiao Feng said. He straightened his pose and looked at the old man in front of him. He was not going to leave until his grandfather let him leave.

Lin Chuan chuckled twice. His eyes turned sharper as he looked at his grandson. "Lin Xiao Feng, Lin Xiao Feng. I did not expect that you would have the courage to make such a big decision before consulting me." His right hand tightened to a fist. The more he talked, the angrier he became. 

He looked at the small teacup on the side. Lin Chuan was tempted to take the teacup and throw it over to his grandson.

Lin Xiao Feng has always been obedient. The young man had listened to him and Lin Chuan had helped his grandson to rise to his position now. 

This was the first time that Lin Xiao Feng had done something without properly discussing it with him. 

In the past, Lin Chuan has been urging Lin Xiao Feng to get married. He wanted to let his grandson meet the young ladies that he thought would be suitable. They were from the families that would help Lin Xiao Feng to advance in his career. 

Who would have thought that this grandson would call him a few hours before he got married?

And the person he married was the young daughter of the An family!

"Do you know why I am angry?" Lin Chuan said.

"Grandfather, I decided without consulting you," Lin Xiao Feng said. His voice was steady. "Marriage is an important matter. I know that you have been looking forward to planning a wedding for me."

Lin Chuan scoffed. 

At least, his grandson was still aware of the reason behind his anger. 

As the thought came to his mind, Lin Chuan took a few deep breaths to calm down. "Alright then, you are already married and I am not an unreasonable old man."

His daughter-in-law, Song Luan called her uncle, Old Master Song, and persuaded him to talk to him. Lin Chuan knew that if he lashed out unreasonably, a lot of people would be unhappy with him.

"Xiao Feng, you told me that you loved that girl," Lin Chuan continued. "Is this true or a lie?" "Grandfather, I love An Nuan."

Lin Chuan frowned. "That girl from the An family is not suitable. Xiao Feng, she cannot support you."

"I liked her for years but never thought about pursuing her in the past," Lin Xiao Feng said. "I know that I am not strong enough to protect her. But things are different now. With my position, I can protect her. I don't need her to support me. Grandfather, I will build up my career with my strength. Besides, I already have my maternal family's support behind me. Grandfather, do I need a marriage to help me?"

Lin Chuan wanted to tell his grandson that it was not enough. But then, the Song family's reputation in politics was something that they should not look down on. Lin Chuan knew that the support from the Song family was enough. Lin Xiao Feng was a capable person as well. 

He had seen how his grandson had preserved until he got to where he is now.

"It doesn't matter even if An Nuan is not suitable for my career growth," Li Jun Xuan said. "In the end, when I return home, I hope to be with someone who can take my mind off my work. A home is a place that I wish to relax."

Lin Chuan's heart softened when he heard her grandson's words. After living a long life, Lin Chuan understood what his grandson had in mind.

Still, he could not be happy with his grandson's decision. This wedding was too hasty. 

"The others will definitely talk about your marriage," Lin Chuan reminded him.

"I know."

"Right now, people are already talking about you stealing someone else's bride." Lin Chuan could not hold his anger as he recalled the rumor he heard. 

Yesterday, a lot of people called him to ask about his grandson's wedding. They wanted to know if he really stole someone else's bride. Lin Chuan did not know how he should answer their question. In the end, he could only tell the Butler that he was not going to answer any call or accept any guests.

He would not mind if Lin Xiao Feng married the person he liked properly.

But he had to kidnap someone else's bride on the wedding day!

"You should know that at your position now, there are a lot of people who want to see you fall," Lin Chuan said. 

"Then, I will work harder and stop them from speaking," Lin Xiao Feng said. "Grandfather, they will only be interested in this matter for a few weeks or months. Sooner or later, they will forget about it once they find something else to talk about. This will be temporary."

Lin Chuan scoffed.

His grandson always had the answer to everything he said.

"Grandfather, I hope that you can trust me one more time," Lin Xiao Feng said. "I won't let my marriage to An Nuan affect my career." He looked at his grandfather with resolute. "Grandfather, I can do it."

The room was filled with silence as both of them did not speak.

The grandfather and grandson looked into each other's eyes for a long time, having a silent confrontation.

Lin Chuan noticed the silent pleading in Lin Xiao Feng's eyes. In the end, he was the first to look away. He closed his eyes, wondering when this grandson knew to be this stubborn.

"Alright. Even if I wanted to object to this marriage, the ceremony had already happened," Lin Chuan said. "Splitting you two now would only let people talk. I will agree to your marriage to young Miss An. This afternoon, I will visit the An family with your parents and have a proper talk."

Lin Xiao Feng let out a breath of relief.

"However…"

The young man once again straightened up his pose.

"Lin Xiao Feng, you should know that every action will have consequences. Since you have agreed to accept the punishment, then you should receive it."

Lin Xiao Feng nodded. "Grandfather, thank you."

He did not care about the punishment as long as he could be with An Nuan.
