Iris Thompson

"That was about 13 years ago. You know, I often wondered if that's why they came to get me. Cause I was desperate? Out of options? Three years ago, I would have answered yes. But now, I know Dr. Conwell was trying to help me.

My name is Iris Thompson, otherwise known as SCP-105.

I live on site 17. Most people would consider this a prison. But I've been to prison, and this is much better than it.

Well... almost.

Since this foundation is so bent on keeping its anomalies a secret, they make sure no one can ever find you. My parents don't know about this place. They think I died in a jailbreak. I guess it's better than knowing I'm in here. Imagine how that conversation would go.

"Hey, mom! I got to talk to an ancient being who could kill me with a snap of his fingers!"

"Oh, that's great honey! Make sure to visit soon!"

"Ok! I can visit tomorrow. Oh, wait! I'm trapped here!"

...

Ok, maybe don't.

It's not too bad here. The food is ok, and it's rent-free. I used to help in the Mobile Task Force, but then there was... the incident."

I stopped writing in my journal. A depressed feeling leaked from my heart into my stomach. The thought of my parents still made me miss them. It had been almost 13 years since I saw them last. My heart breaks when the thought crosses my mind. I looked around my Cell/Room. It was pretty cozy, I'll admit. I had a bean bag in my corner with a bookshelf on the wall. My bed was soft, with a couple of stuffies lying there. It took forever to convince them to just let me get this stuff in my room.

I think I have a decent life. Sure, it doesn't have everything I dreamed of, but it's for the best.

I think.

A knock on my door made me look up, "Come in!"

The door opened and in stepped a heavy-tanned Arabic man. He had dark hair and blue eyes, and his arms, legs, and shoulder blades were made of metal. He wore a grin across his face as our eyes met. It was Cain (SCP-073), one of the few friends I've made here. He's always been a friendly face here in the facility. I know I can come to him for anything.

"Hey Cain," I smiled at him, "What's up?"

"Just checking up on you," He sat down next to me, "How are you doing?"

I shrugged, "I'm doing ok. Nothing too exciting." I looked at the calendar at that note, as if I had anything planned. All the days after April 23 were crossed off in blue markers.

"Well, I have something very exciting for today," Cain lept to his feet, "Guess who is visiting today?!"

"Uh, I don't know," I wrapped my arms around my knees, "Who?"

"Dr. Kondraki!" Cain stood there grinning as my face fell. Cain noticed my change, "What?"

"Its... It's just... I haven't seen him in a while since the incident. I said some pretty bad stuff to him."

"You mean during Incident X45-Site-17? I just assumed you'd be happy to see him. You were friends," Cain said.

I frowned. I often forgot that his memory is amazing. You could tell him something then three weeks later he'd still remember it. I looked away, "I said some really bad things to him the last time that we talked. It's going to be so weird."

"Well, it's better than ignoring him for the rest of your life, right?" I didn't answer as he continued, "If you were friends, he'll want to fix things with you. If he doesn't, that's on him."

I said nothing for a moment before smiling, "Thanks, Cain."

"No problem," Cain stood up, "Now let's grab some breakfast. There is a plate of eggs and bacon calling our names."

I stood up and followed him out of the room. As we stepped out, the mood was very different from my room. While my room was all cherry and cute, the hallways were concrete with lines leading to different areas. We followed the orange line that lead to the SCP's cafeteria. Most SCPs in site 17 could come here to socialize, while those who couldn't be either banned for some reason or too dangerous to be allowed out of their cells.

We walked past different cells that house different SCPs. 191, 166, 343 (though it's less containing him and more of asking him to stay put), and many others. We walk past more cells, including one that read SCP-105-b. I knew that number well. It was my camera, the one that I got for Christmas many years ago.

We kept walking down the hallway till we reached the cafeteria. Researchers walked past with clipboards and a few SCP just enjoying their lunch. We walked to the serving area and had our key cards scanned. Two trays appeared in the slot, one with the number 073 on it and the other with 105. My tray had bacon and eggs with some buttered toast. Cain got his usual breakfast, Labneh with cream. We sat down and began to chat.

"Did you hear about the new researcher coming to visit?" Cain asked.

"Other than Kondraki?"

"Yeah. I don't know a lot about it, but from what I hear, he's kind of a legend."

"How so?" I asked.

"Well, he's been in the foundation since... Well, a while. He's dealt with so many SCPs in his time here, and," Cain leaned in, "I think he's an SCP or at least bound to one."

"Wow," I chuckled a bit, "I can't imagine how he managed to become a researcher while being an SCP."

"It's not too uncommon," Cain said," there are a few other SCPs who are researchers. His name is Jack."

"Well, I'd certainly like to meet-

"THE KETER IS LOOSE!"

I spun around as the voice shouted that across the cafeteria. In the doorway stood a man with red hair and a funny expression. He wore a silver pendant around his neck with a white lab coat. He turned and ran down the hall shouting, "ITS LOOOOOOSSSSSEEEEEE!!"

"Wait!," I lept up and dashed after him, despite Cain's protest. I turned the corner and chased the researcher, "Who's loose?!"

He paused running, turning around to shout, "No!" and kept running.

Energy rose on my back, making me smile. "Oh, game on, Haircut!" I pushed off the ground and sprinted down the hallway. I felt the air rush past me as I booked it down the hall, my MTF training allowing me to run exceptionally fast. I caught up to the guy in no time, but we were now running at the same speed.

The guy looked behind him me, "Wow, that was fast."

"Who breached?!" I asked.

He smiled, "Great day for a run."

I looked in front of us and spotted it before he did, "Look out!"

He looked in front of him, just before he tripped over SCP-999. He landed on his face with a loud crash landing on 999.

"Oh shoot!" I stopped next to him, "I'm so sorry! Are you hurt?" 999 wiggled out from under him and chirped at me. I patted his head, and a feeling of euphonium spread into my chest, "Good to see you too, Blobby. I'm talking about... whoever this is."

999 looked down at him as he let out a groan and pointed one of his little arms at him, "H-hut. Hut."

I smiled. SCP-999 (I call him Blobby) has been learning to talk recently. He's also seemed to grow into a toddler's maturity, able to talk a bit and recognize things better. "Hurt? No no, he's just... sleeping," I looked down at him. Blobby hates hurting people, so it is better if he thought he fell asleep. Running.

"What is going on here?!"

I turned around to see a cat running up to us, wearing a lab coat and a fowl expression. I smiled and waved, "Hello, Blaire. What are you doing at Site 17?"

"First of all," the cat said, "It's Dr. Roth to you, Skip." I rolled my eyes. "Skip" was a nickname given to us SCPs. It wasn't considered an insult, just a bit rude. Dr. Roth continued, "Second, I'm here investigating some abnormal activity with Dr. Bright."

I tilted my head, "Who?"

"Jack Bright," Dr. Roth said, gesturing a paw at the man on the ground, "I see you've met him already."

I looked down at him, "Wait. Your saying... HIM?!"

"Yep," she walked over to his head and whacked her paw against it, "WAKE UP!"

He looked up and frowned, "Oh your no fun, Blaire."

"You were awake this whole time?!" I exclaimed.

"Uhh yeah," Bright chuckled as he sat up, "I haven't been to Site-17 in a while, so I wanted to make a grand entrance."

I raised an eyebrow, "By yelling "The Keter is loose" in the middle of an SCP Cafeteria?"

"You did what?!" Dr. Roth hissed.

"Oh relax," Dr. Bright said as he rose to his feet, "It was a joke. Besides, we don't even have any Keters here."

"That's not the" Dr. Roth took a deep breath, "You just got un-banned from here, and this is the first thing you do?"

I look at him, "So why are you here anyway?"

Dr. Roth spoke, "Well, we've been detecting some information has been leaking out to the Serpents Hand or Chaos Insurgency. We're tracing the signal back to here and are leading an investigation on some foundation personnel, as well as a few SCPs."

"Wow. Well, good luck," I smiled, "Wish I could help."

"Trust me, you lost that chance a long time ago." Dr. Roth spoke with venom in her voice before turning away. Jack looked back at me before following the grey tabby. I stood there for a few seconds. The pain in my chest returned for a second before I headed back to Cain.

She was right though. I lost my chance of being more than an SCP a long time ago.

And boy, did I miss it.
