The Unknown

Those people were different than the people who brought her dinner or the ones who came in the morning.

She realized that the people who were entering her room were not the same every day.

As she observed the ever-changing faces entering her room, she wondered, "Who are these people?"

"Stand up! You need to come with us," a stern voice commanded. Startled, she looked up to realize that both people were wearing uniforms. She concluded that they must be the guards in charge of security.

"Why are they being so aggressive?" She thought to herself but kept her thoughts to herself as the situation seemed tense and she didn't have the power to question their authority at that moment.

So, she complied with their orders and stood up, following them out of the room.

Those two guards took her along the same corridors as before, so she hoped that she would get to meet that boy from yesterday again. Or Perhaps other people like her who were in the same situation.

However, even when they reached the destination and made it back, it was evident that her hopes were in vain. She didn't see that boy or even anyone else apart from the guards.

Even more so, during the coming days, she was taken to get a few more medical examinations and procedures, but each time her experience remained the same: isolated, confined and devoid of the familiar face of that boy.

She didn't get to meet anyone of her age or in her situation though she would see or hear some other children in their rooms along the way. But the guards always kept a close eye on her to ensure her compliance and prevent any form of interaction with others.

Her daily routine remained the same as she persisted in not taking those pills.

Finally, when it had been a few days since she stopped taking the prescribed medication the results started to become evident.

She had cumulative memories of the past few days.

Among those memories, she was able to recall the familiar faces of the doctors and the guards whom she encountered during those days.

As the days passed and her memory improved, she began to piece together the puzzle of her situation.

She was being held for some kind of research or study, which obviously smelled of unethical practices. She was sure of only one thing at this point and was desperate to get answers.

Why was she chosen and what was the purpose behind the research she was subjected to? What about the other children? How many more children were there? And the most pressing question of all: How did she end up in this situation and how could she escape from it?

But there was not a single soul she could confide in or seek help from in the isolated and guarded facility.

Until one day.....

One day, early in the morning, some guards came to her room.

"Get up!"

One of them forcibly yanked her out of bed.

"As of today, your preliminary tests are complete. You will be transferred to a dormitory with other subjects for further observations."

She didn't understand the reason behind the sudden change but she felt a glimmer of hope. She would finally have a chance to interact with someone in the dormitory, at least that's what she hoped.

Maybe they might know what the hell was happening there. Maybe the boy from last week might also be there. Maybe, just maybe she could find a way out.

They took her to the same examination room where she frequented since last week. Unlike the usual complicated wires and machines that were attached to her during the tests, this time the doctor simply took a sample of blood and checked her vital signs.

The same guards from earlier blindfolded her and led her out of the doctor's examination room.

She was guided through a series of hallways, her footsteps echoing as they made their way to probably the dormitory.

After seamlessly walking which felt like an endless journey, they arrived at a big set of double doors. Without wasting time, the guards swiftly removed the blindfold.

She was just adjusting to the sudden burst of light when one of the guards pushed the doors open and basically threw her into the dormitory.
