Chapter 18

As the two sat in the car in front of the 02 building, Daniel could see Alex's hesitation to go in. Perhaps it all stemmed from the embarrassment he was feeling from not smelling Chris' intentions right from the start. But, on the other hand, maybe he feels stupid because he had let him in on several occasions on matters about his private life. The issues he found hard to even discuss with anyone.

Before the massacre ten years ago, when Alex was only seventeen years old, his elder brother had worked with wolves from another pack. A pack that the Alpha had warned them about due to their blood-sucking ways. His brother, however, paid no heed to the Alpha's words and ended up secretly working with them. Because of that, he endangered several of his people, and Alex fell victim too.

Several wolves died, and a lot was stolen, including properties. When little Alex then asked his elder brother, who was next in line for the Alpha position, why he did it 'because I wanted to.' That was the selfish answer that his brother gave him but later on that very day, Alex overheard his brother speaking to another man who had no scent of a wolf; they were discussing how to overthrow the Alpha and sell some of the wolves. He realized that his brother was indeed working with the hunters. He had heard his father warn them severally about the hunters and how dangerous they were to the wolves. Alex felt sick when he saw his brother willingly selling out the family for his selfish gains. 'How can someone so selfish share the same blood as him?' Those words were his thoughts at that moment. He ran straight to the Alpha and gave a detailed report on what he had seen and heard on that day.

When the Alpha caught on, he disowned his eldest son, who was in the line to becoming the next Alpha, and announced Alex instead. Looking at how Alez grew, his body structure, and his love for his people, one could tell that Alex was indeed meant to be Alpha.

Fast forward to the day of the massacre, both Alex and Daniel saw him again. He was working with the hunters, and he took part in the killing of everyone; in fact, he murdered the previous King, and his words were 'this is for my mother' when he stabbed the Alpha in the chest with a dagger.

Looking at Alex, Daniel could deduce what was going on in his mind just by his pained expression and how his jaw had hardened. This scene was exactly like when his father summoned his elder brother to question his behavior. His father looked at him when his brother was disowned and spoke to him. Those words always rang in his mind, and they sat well in his heart.

The words were; "never let emotions blind your eyes to judgment. And that, Yes, one can love family and friends, but one should never forget to use their heads. Don't let others manipulate you because of certain bonds. You can still love and remain a man of principle.

After remembering his father's words, Alex felt a little better; he was ready to go in and face his ex-friend. But, he wanted to get done with the sweep because it took a lot of his time, and he almost lost his mate.

Remembering the way that bastard held Malia with a knife so close to her throat, Alex wanted to go into the prison just so he could slit his throat. The whole incident might have really frightened them so much that she had nightmares.

In the elevator, Alex looked like he was going to war; his body emitted what he was feeling inside, and this time, Daniel was on the receiving end of the coldness. Daniel seemed to want to be anywhere else rather than in the elevator at the moment. Looking at Alex, he got goosebumps all over his body, especially thinking about those on the receiving end of his anger.

'ding' Came the sound of the elevator, and the door opened. The two of them headed to the surveillance room. . Alex didn't want to get close to Chris, So they decided to go into the surveillance room to watch the whole interrogation process.

Looking at the office from where they were seated, one couldn't tell that there was another room there. Alex was actually thankful that he didn't tell Chris much about his wolf world. Thanks to that, certain aspects of his life get still remain hidden. This mere thought of that reduced the anger and pain whirling inside his heart.

Inside the office sat old man Eliot, Cross, standing behind Christopher's seat, and another bodyguard. The somber mood could be read by anyone, and sitting, there, Alex thought that this was the best idea. So he watched instead of going in there.

Daniel agreed because he tapped Alex on the back and gave him a thumbs up. "Every day is a reminder as to why you are my Alpha. You are indeed a brilliant man."

Alex looked at his friend and smiled so briefly. If one wasn't looking at him at the exact time, you couldn't believe it was there.

Back in the office, Chris looked at the door, hoping that Alex would come in. Despite the end of their relationship, he really did like being a friend to Alex. He treated him well and respected him as a subordinate. He wanted to apologize, although he knew that he didn't deserve that. However, he looked fearful of what would happen to him later. He has heard stories among the hunters of how ruthless the Alpha Alex was to his enemies.

Chris never imagined such a fate for himself, where he and Alex were on the opposite sides. Yet, thinking of all these, he felt pain deep within his heart, and his eyes reddened as tears started to form. Then, out of embarrassment because everyone was looking at him as a spectacle, Chris raised tilted his head backward to fight the tears that wanted to flow.

"Ca... can... I get a chance?" Chris nervously asked. He didn't realize what he had said until old man Eliot who was busy on his phone, raised his head to look at him.

Old man Eliot asked him if he had said anything, but Chris only shook his head. It definitely was his wishful thinking. Alex would never want to look at him; he didn't even show up after his actions. Any normal man would have come to ask the why question. I mean, Alex deserved an answer.
