Soul Application (Part 3)

"Good," Instructor Maria said while clapping her palms together, "That's a very promising amount of soul energy Rem,"

'So that's his name, huh?' Mika thought as she eyed the black haired boy with gray eyes, whose blade was burning brightly amidst the others… his soul reeked of an energy that seemed ever so familiar, it was at the tip of her tongue yet she couldn't utter it!

Why did the name Rem seem to turn her on?

Mika rolled her eyes and the pink energy disappeared, ever since the boy had shown up- it had been nothing but trouble for her, she hadn't been able to get her thoughts straight.

'Besides those soul energy reserves seem unnatural,' Mika thought, 'Even if it takes a spark of Soul energy to activate a magical weapon – it visualizes the amount of Soul energy reserves that the user has and this boy… I mean Rem, this is an absurd amount of soul energy,'

Rem cut off the soul energy in an instant and drew the blade back, A Short sword had it's advantages but if he was facing off against someone like Maria in combat- she would definitely have the upper hand, petite figure and all but there was partly the reason that she could manipulate her soul energy very well.

"Now that you see the potential attacking power of your weapon by applying soul energy, we shall go on to the real lesson of today – Using your Magic weapon in combat," Maria said and clapped quickly, grabbing the attention of all the Apprentices in the room, "'Master your magic weapon as it holds the key to your victory' – this quote was dropped by S-rank Cavalier Dylan and there are truth to his words,"

Maria's gaze darkened as she stared down on all of them.

"A dungeon can be a very scary place even if you are prepared, monsters lurking in each and every corner. You have to keep your guard up at all times and of course you'll be there with a party," Maria said, "But there are situations whereby you could get separated from your party or your party abandons you perhaps because of an injury, it is advised that you take Instructor Martinez's Dungeon survival class to be prepared for such an incident,"

Rem had been in the dungeon but he felt like he and this woman had different views of it – what Rem had witnessed in the dungeon was that Strength mattered, if he had gone into the dungeon without the Cavaliers or Drew, or even the Magus… he wouldn't have made it to the gateway. Everyone had to pool their strength together to survive in a Dungeon, but from what Rem was seeing Maria elaborate- it was clear.

A shadow hung over the Pink-haired apprentice as Rem stared at her soul, that crimson energy – flooded with murderous intent and resentment, it seemed that she had been abandoned in the dungeon by her party.

By the time Rem stared away from her soul and to her face, she had already made quite a headway into the lesson.

"… and because of that, your Objective is very clear, to practice with your Magical weapons against fellow Cavaliers," Maria said, "You should get more well-versed in the kind of Magical weapon you are using – it can save your life in a battle,"

Rem's gaze could not leave her face, he noticed a thin scar stretching from below her right eyelid down to her chin.

'What really happened to you?' He wondered, not out of curiosity or anything but because he just wanted to know… Maria noticed his gaze and snapped her fingers at him.

"For today, we shall be doing basic spars which involve you using your weapon against the other Apprentice," Maria said.

'It's always sparring,' Rem thought inwardly, 'Of course they are doing this because of that Apprentice tournament that is coming up,'

The instructors had to make sure that the Apprentices, especially the new editions which were him and Krista were well-versed in sparring with their weapon and in physical combat.

"How about the two of you go first?" Maria suggested, pointing to Rem and Mika, "It will surely be a great learning experience,"

Rem didn't have any argument as he walked onto the arena and stood at the end, he watched Mika climb the other end and assume a combat stance with her weapon, lowering it to her side and securing it with her palms – the steel of the sword exhibiting a pink aura as Mika's eyes glowed.

"You can give up now," Mika said and Rem spared her a glance at her eyes… she looked quite overconfident, as if he was a push over.

"Right back at you," Rem said as he began stretching, easing out his bones… the green aura flickered back into existence, surging around the sword although it was not as intense as before, "I suggest that you give up, I don't like beating up girls,"

Then Rem noticed her body flicker, as it disappeared from sight and appeared right below him.

"That's quite some speed," Rem muttered under his breath as he pushed energy into his feet and dodged to the right, just as Mika slashed her sword… the pink energy pervading the air and pushing Rem backward despite the fact that he dodged the strike.

Rem quickly regained his posture, just in time as Mika began her sprint to him yet again… he was prepared this time, his Shortsword surging with energy as he thrusted it forward, the energy coinciding at the tip which became the most dangerous point in the whole sword.

Mika was quick to duck, dodging Rem's attack as she brought her sword up again – she wasn't planning on dealing any critical damage, after all, she wasn't meant to kill him but the new boy had been giving her quite some attitude… he deserved a little severe injury.

But her slash didn't connect, Rem had already taken a step behind… it seemed that he had not pulled his full being into the strike as Mika expected, besides the Shortsword made it more easier for him to dodge. Even if he had dodged her strike though… Rem couldn't escape the aftermath, the explosion of soul energy which sent his body sailing backward.

'That's really annoying,' Rem thought as he gritted his teeth, but it was worth it- he had finally learned how to perform that technique.
