Don of the family

"Summer Eva Steele is going to be our next Don of the family." Daniel stated.

"What?!!" Everyone in the room yelled excluding Summer and David.

This was the first time a female was suggested to be the next Don of the family.

"What nonsense?!" Adam yelled, he was burning with anger.

"Don't tell me you are serious Daniel? Is this some sort of joke or what?" Roman was the next to speak.

"Has my grandfather ever joked with things before? This is a serious matter here." Summer replied rudely.

"Keep quiet you little imp." Louisa couldn't hold back herself anymore.

Who the hell does she think she is? Just because her father is the Don of the family and her grandfather is one crazy man doesn't mean that she is permitted to talk anyhow in the family meeting.

"You should reserve comment for that whore of a daughter you have." Summer sassed back.

"And besides I was never talking to you." Summer added.

"Don't you know it's my wife you are talking to like that?" Bernard asked.

"I wasn't talking to you either. Why can't elders respect themselves and mind their business? Grow up you all." Summer retorted and Bernard almost slapped the young girl if not for her grandfather.

"I think that is enough." Caroline had to step in before it got out of hand. She was the peacemaker of the family.

"As I was saying earlier, Summer Eva Steele is the only one I think that can handle the position because of her fearless characteristics. She has the attributes of a leader." Daniel said.

"Attributes of a leader my foot!" Elle said.

Summer was about to say something when Caroline beat her to it.

"Elle, you are the one causing trouble here."

"Oh please, it is not like I am lying." Elle rolled her eyes.

"Silence!" David thundered, he couldn't sit here all day, listening to his family argue over petty things. He had a lot to do and he didn't have much time to waste.

"Summer is the only person capable of that position and all of us know that, so why are we arguing over it?" David asked.

"She is freaking a girl." Adam said.

"How do you expect the eligible sons of this family to sit back and watch a female rule them?" Adam asked, this sounded really absurd.

"Gender is not a problem as long as the person in question can handle the position." Daniel replied.

"And I think it is high time that females are regarded in this family. For years now, this family has been ruled by males, don't you think that it is time for a change?" Summer asked.

"Even if we were to allow a female to rule, it would definitely not be you." Lucas; Elle's brother said.

"Or would I say my dear brother is greedy. He doesn't want power to leave his lineage." Roman said with disgust in his tone.

"If Summer is not good enough for the position then who? Your gay grandson?" Daniel asked and silence fell in the room.

All eyes landed on Lucas whose head was hung low in shame.

How on earth did Daniel know?

"You guys seem to have forgotten who exactly I am. You guys have forgotten how brutal I am. Just because I decided to lie low to allow my son to rule doesn't mean I have changed. I am still the old Daniel Steele. The only person who can carry on the legacy of this family is Summer and if anyone has a problem with that then suit yourself because all of your opinions don't matter." Daniel said as the whole place became silent.

This was how it used to be when he was still the Don of the family and he was hundred percent sure that it would be the same in Summer's turn if not worse.

His son; David, was the only one who cared about other people's opinions. He tried changing him but then David refused to be changed.

But now, he has a granddaughter who can do better than him.

"Does anyone have any questions?" Summer asked with her arms folded at her chest.

Silence was her reply. Of course, no one wanted to get on Daniel's bad side.

"Since there are no questions, grandfather please proceed." Summer added.

"I would be resigning in six months' time, so Summer you have six months off to go and live your life to the fullest because after the six months is over, you would have to take up your responsibilities as the new Don of the family." David made known to Summer who nodded her head in understanding.

"With that been said, I guess this meeting is over." David said, standing at his feet. So much for family meetings.

"Seat." Daniel ordered David who let out a low hiss and obeyed his father.

"The rest of you can leave except for Summer and David." Daniel dismissed them as they began to leave but not without grumbling about the new development. Not that Daniel cared though.

After everyone left, silence befell the trio.

"Okay father, why did you ask us to stay behind?" David asked.

"First of all, Summer, how are you doing? I hope you have been visiting your therapist?" Daniel asked.

"I am fine grandpa so please just go straight to the point." Summer told him. She doesn't want him to pry into her private life.

"The Spencer family sent us a message." At the mention of Spencer, both father and daughter sat up right. They were very sensitive when it came to matters relating to Helen's death.

"And what about those fools?" Summer asked, already feeling so angry.

"Their leader; Matt Spencer, demands the release of his father." Daniel announced.

"Nonsense!" David and Summer said simultaneously as they both stood up.

"Tell Matt Spencer that I am coming for him." David told his father and left.

"And tell Matt that I said I won't rest until I eliminate every one with the Spencer blood. It is a promise!." Summer vowed.
