What was Tasha even saying…her head felt like it was dipped in cold water when she heard those words. The suddenly she is out of the cold water than thrown to the flames, burning inside her, charring every particle in her body.
James Hermann was murdered.
Her dad was murdered.
He never died of cardiac arrest like she believed. Betrayal flashed in the irises of her eyes as she looked up at the former secretary. She had kept this from her for two years. And for what?
Chief Carlton got up, his chair scraping against the floor as his face went red, "Don't say useless things inside a police station!"
"Maybe they shouldn't keep useless police here too!" Tasha thundered back. The rest of the police men were waiting for Tasha to do something, a grab at the collar, a punch. Anything. One touch on a police officer and it's an offense. Direct arrest.
Carlton knew that too, and arresting Tasha was his best choice right now. So he continued, "I don't know what you're talking about! Stop this."
Tasha couldn't believe it, "So you don't remember getting tipped off at night that there was a stalker outside the house of the Founder's house? You don't remember walking there on your own to check and actually see the stalker strangle the man and feed him poison?"
Carlton watched her rage with blank eyes. Ashe had studied a lot about micro expressions like the curious person she was and she knew one thing. How much ever a human being tried to hide their emotions, a little sign of the true emotion will slip out at least for 0.75th of a second. All you need to do is watch for that 'slip'.
She watched Carlton's pink face as Tasha raged on and Ashe saw it…the slight twitch in his left eyes and the small, almost unrecognizable tremble in his lower lip like he was about to bite it. His eyes too! They almost flitted down to look at his feet but it didn't. Ashe tried to put them together like puzzle piece. What emotion does this all this add up to? She matched them in her head and finally, got it.
Guilt.
Ashe leaned back into her chair as she realized this. So what Tasha was saying was true. All this happened behind her back. And she didn't even what to do now. Her goal was something else for now and she needed to use that to distract herself from this ruckus.
Tasha was about to hit him on the face when he feigned more ignorance when Ashe got up, "Stop."
"But Ashe, you have no idea…" Tasha begin, her fingers almost scraping against the police collar.
"I said stop, we came here for something else," Ashe pressed her hands back down and met the disgusting man's eyes. "Where are they?"
Carlton smirked, "They're not here."
"What?"
He pointed over to the entrance with his eyes, "See that black car leaving? They just left through the back door to the Prosecution Court."
Tasha put her hands through her hair as she looked back and forth the entrance and me, "Oh my God, Ashe. I'm so sorry, I—"
"Never mind," Ashe huffed and grabbed her hands before running out into the open and saw the black car curve into a U-Turn. "They're going to the West Avenue!" she yelled and got inside the car followed by Tasha who flipped the break back before rolling out of the parking and drifting towards the U-Turn.
"Faster, we're losing them!" Ashe grabbed the dashboard to keep an eye on them. Tasha huffed and hit the gas harder and we raced forward, the road buzzing past us. "We can't let them reach the Court. There will be full protection there."
Tasha couldn't believe she was taking orders from a 16 year old. Well, almost 17, but whatever, this wasn't going well for her. "And after we corner them? Then what? Take down all the police by ourselves?"
Ashe laughed and patted Tasha, "Just get me there."
Tasha shook her head whipped her hands to the right and the steering wheel turned a full 360 as the car cut into a smaller, side road. For a while, it was dark, but then the road slowly opened up into the main road they were in and to Ashe's surprise, they were much closer to the police car!
"Woah, Tasha, you're so cool…"
Tasha bit her lip and slammed the clutch with her left leg before shifting the gear to high speed and then speeding off faster than ever before with her other leg against the accelerator.
"My petrol fee…" was all she could think as they closed in on the police car and drift steadily in front of the black car, forcing it to slowly halt it to a stop.
Ashe smiled as she threw open the door and jumped out before Tasha could stop her. Ashe ran out and looked through the windows but…it was highly tinted. She scoffed and waited for the policemen to come out. They did, with ticket machines in their hand.
Tasha got out too and walked back toward the trunk of the car and pried it open before catching something steely and shiny in her hand. The police men then understood that this wasn't just a faulty car.
It was a whole calculated plan.
"Let the robots out!" she yelled at them, avoiding them from walking any further. She would have asked them kindly but clearly, policemen didn't get the meaning of kind. One of the men signaled to the driver of the car, "Go, go, go! We'll handle these two!"
The driver nodded hastily and reignited the car. "No!" Ashe screamed and stood in front of the car, "You're not leaving without setting them free!"
The two other policemen tucked their ticket machines and grabbed Ashe by her arms and pulled the thrashing girl back. "You're messing in national affairs, kid. You're lucky you're a minor."
"No, please, stop that car!"
The driver pressed the gas…but the car it didn't move. Instead, lots of smoke came and the car just raced and raced, not moving as the driver pressed the accelerator again and again. He slammed the steering wheel in frustration, his police cap falling off, "What is wrong with this?"
Ashe's and the two policemen's eyes flitted over to the back of the car as a tall frame emerge from behind, spinning the large shiny spanner in her hand.
"Tasha?" Ashe couldn't help but laugh. Tasha winked and gave her a small salute, "I got your back, kid."
The driver tried again and two of the wheels fell off, thrusting the car into the ground. The only sound was the roll of loose screws against the asphalt.
"Now," Ashe looked up at the two men holding her, "Let them out."
"I'm afraid we can't, kid," the two shook their heads and waited for reinforcements to come. Till then, the driver locked the doors from the inside to prevent the two girls from entering.
Ashe tried to make a run for it and she only reached the window when the police officer held her back again. The other police officer was holding Tasha to the ground, using the spanner to keep her in place.
"Get your hands off her!" Ashe yelled.
The officer on the floor looked up at the other officer, "Yo John, look at this. It's a Brit."
John raised his eyebrows, "Oh wow. How perfect."
Tasha narrowed her eyes, What did they have against Brits…
Ashe's hands were held back by the officer so she leaned forward and tapped her head on the window. "Adrien, can you hear me?!"
No answer.
"Adrien!! Kai! Hello?"
Still no answer.
Well, she wouldn't get one. Because inside the car, behind those tinted windows were those six boys, all out cold. They were breathing but all were out of consciousness like skeletons.
