Chapter 38 : Betrayed From Within
Gael’s POV
I ran as fast as I could, heart in my throat as I kicked down Ellie’s door, hoping for a startled shriek, a yell, or even getting scolded, it would’ve been wholly preferable to the reality that the room was empty.
There was no sign of Ellie, and I almost collapsed to my knees when I was overcome by the truth. Valerian had gotten her. He had come into her home and gotten her with no… no one to defend her.
If there had been a guard, there would’ve been signs of a fight, bloodshed, some sort of destruction but no. There was nothing, just pristine halls, and empty rooms, meaning that when Ellie was taken, she’d been alone.
…She’d been alone? No—that wasn’t right. There’d always been someone nearby. Either she was in the dining room getting meals with us, spending time with us, or she was in her room being guarded by Lillian or escorted back.
Ellie had been escorted back, so where was Lillian?
“LILLIAN!” Gabriel howled with pure rage.
