Ethan went quiet after I said that. I spent most my time waiting for my dinner in my room. I kept my infrared vision active so I could watch for someone bringing meals to the rooms. The walls made it a little weird, but I could still clearly tell living heat signatures. I noticed a heat signature on the floor below us that was significantly colder than the others on that floor.
I could clearly see most the students on the second floor as well as the fourth while the ones on the fifth, and first floors were barely more than blue blurs. His heat signature was blue despite only being one floor down from me. I couldn't tell where peoples arms, and legs were. Beyond right outside my room. I could tell he was on the floor below me because his roommate reacted to his presence.
It was weird. It couldn't be some sort of ability because maintaining an ability like that constantly would kill a normal person. Maybe he was wearing some sort of insulation? Either way I didn't like it. The idea of someone just casually hiding from my infrared wasn't pleasant.
If they found a way to hide from my normal vision as well than they would be completely invisible to me. Considering how sharp my vision was that was a terrifying prospect. I spotted the people with my dinner, and switched forms right quick. Pulling on pants, and hanging my shirt over my shoulder. I stepped out into the common area.
"What is it?" Ethan asked while carefully averting his eyes.
"Dinner time," I smirked as I pulled my shirt on.
I reread the email about the dinner orders right quick. We were supposed to take our dinner plates with us to breakfast so they could be washed. I noticed a plate on the windowsill. Seemed like Ethan had taken his lunch in here as well. He did get called for evaluations before me.
I got a funny look from the staff member in front of me when he handed me my plate. Apparently he wasn't used to someone ordering so much food. He scanned my watch to confirm he was giving the correct plate to the correct person, then repeated the process for Ethan. I slunk back to my room, and closed the door so I could have some alone time with my food. It wasn't that I didn't want to eat in front of Ethan.
It was that I wanted to eat in my real body, and I didn't know how bad I looked when I did that. I stuffed down the entire platter so fast it was hard to believe there'd been food on my plate to begin with. I licked the meat juices off the plate before shuffling it off to the side. I was settling in to go to sleep when I realized I was still too close to my plate so I shuffled it into the corner by the door. I fell asleep a few minutes later, and awoke in my inner world.
"Well," I looked up into my cloudy sky, "It's been a while." I clenched my teeth, "I thought there was a twenty five percent chance of me getting in here?"
"Chance," the system replied, "Is not a guarantee."
Some of it's luck huh? I looked at the flames that made up my bond to Savannah as the blue light that made up Ethan slowly filled in. Ethan was trying to enter my inner world. I debated on watching him make his way in. Tapping my talons on the ice beneath my feet.
I decided to just work on my spellcasting instead. I'd leveled up my air element recently, and lightning was shooting through the roof quickly. I hardly had to work on that one at all. So I decided to work on water for a little while. Ethan got into my inner world, and started trying to trigger his new ability again.
We spent the night like that. Both of us doing our own thing while we slept. It was definitely a cheat to be able to practice while I slept. Maybe I'd be able to trigger this mindset every night. I didn't know if it was a good idea to trigger it every night. Would I suffer from mental exhaustion if I spent every night in here?
I didn't know. I wouldn't be able to find out until I was able to trigger the ability every night. My alarm woke me from my slumber. Getting tossed out of my inner world startled Ethan into full awareness as well. I got up slowly, and switched forms.
Pulling on a clean uniform before stuffing all the dirty ones in the chute for washing. I stepped out into the common area as Ethan went into the bathroom for a shower. I only had to wait ten or fifteen minutes before he came out fully clothed. His clothes clung to his wet body. If I were a teenage girl I would have blushed.
We headed to class together, and when we got to the classroom there was a major difference to all the desks. Now they were all little cubicles. We each sat down in our seats, and there were tests already on the desks. The front page was blank. We were all given pens to write with.
"You may begin," the teacher spoke up once we were all sat down.
I opened the packet to the first page. I wrote my name in on the top line, and smirked at the multiple choice bubbles on the page in front of me. This was going to be easier than I thought. I read each question carefully, and filled in a bubble. Lunch was brought to us in the classroom. It was the exact same meal we'd ordered for dinner.
I stuffed down my dinner. Unsurprisingly I was one of the first ones to finish my meal. I turned my plate in to the staff member by the door of the classroom before returning to my desk. I finished up the last thirty questions before turning my entire packet in. I was the fifth person to finish my packet so the surprise on the teachers face was nice.
