'Ring Ring Ring' the alarm rang from the phone.
"Ughh" the young woman groaned in the morning. "5 more...10 more minutes....zzz" she said as she pushed snooze on her phone. She pushed snooze the third time this morning.
This time the alarm went off again and she grabbed her phone to check the time. Her eyes widened. '8:45!!!!!' with that she fell out of the bed.
"Holy Crap! I'm late!!!" she screamed at herself as she placed the phone back on the night stand and rushed to the bathroom. She hurridly washed her face and did her normal routine while she was brushing her teeth she ran back in her room to start putting on her clothes.
With that she rushed back into the bathroom and rinsed her mouth. Rushing back out to her kitchen and saw some fruits on the table, that her mother had brought her. Along with the fruits stood an unusual fruit which looked similar to a fruit on her favorite show that she was watching last night.
While rushing to grab her phone, bag, documents, along with a fruit she picked up the unusual fruit without even noticing which fruit she grabbed.
With that she rushed out her front door and locked it while fast walking to the train station. "I'm going to be late!! I'm going to be late! Hurry!!!" she chanted to herself over and over again while racing through the streets. While taking out the fruit in her hand and munching on it, though it tasted sour and strange she didn't have time to worry about the fruit. She had to worry about that later.
"Excuse me, sorry!" she would say each time she bumped into a stranger. And dumped the rest of the fruit that was left in a plastic bag and napkins she had in her work bag to finish or throw away.
She huffed once she reached the building, her destination. She stopped for a moment outside to catch her breath and quickly walked inside while clocking in. Just being 20 minutes late off the clock being 9:20. She huffed in frustration at herself and walked to her desk. Slumping in her chair while starting her work, knowing that she will be reprimanded for being late.
Soon enough the manager of her office came by her desk telling her off for being late to work, for she could only apologize and nod her head. After that she rested her head against the table on top of the new stacks of files and paper work that she needed to finish and more to do since she was late.
The young woman could only complain and curse herself for being stupid for staying up late.
~Time Skip~
The clock finally hit noon where fellow office workers would go take their lunch break including the young woman. She stacked her finished files and paper work off the side and organized stuff before she went off to lunch.
"Hey (Y/N), ready to head off to lunch and tell me why you're late?" a voice said and snickered after their comment. The young woman named (Y/N) turned around and grabbed her bag to look at her fellow office mate. She sighed at the comment and spoke "Sure Marie."
With that the two women walked out of the office to a nearby cafe that they often visited to get lunch and drinks. "So, how's that file going for you?" Marie asked the person next to her.
"Fine, I should be finished with it soon. I just have more files and work to do today..." (Y/N) sighed remembering all of her unfinished work that she has to get done. "I might have to do overtime today."
Marie chuckled next to her. "Well tell me more inside and why you're late." she said to her friend as they walked into the cafe and took their orders.
With that the two of them sat down at their regular spot and started to drink the drinks that they ordered while they wait for their food.
"So you gonna tell me why you're late? You're never really late for work. It's mostly every so often when the train stations are down and that you call in to tell them or something came up. So what got you so tired and late for work?" Marie asked while pointing to her friends eye bags and tired state.
(Y/N) sighed. "Hah....I just didn't sleep till late last night because I got a little to excited about something and decided to stay up watching some show of mine.....I normally watch the time.." she said while stirring the drink of hers. Her friend could only giggle. "So typical of you. Still watching that show are we?" Marie asked teasingly.
(Y/N) could only sigh and nod her head. "So what was the thing that got you all excited and made you lose track of time?" her friend asked while taking a sip of her coffee.
This made (Y/N) look at her friend with sparkly eyes and smile "You know how my mom comes by every so often right?" she told her friend for her to receive a nod, telling her to go on.
"Yeah so, when I came home from my shopping I saw some fruits and some other things that my mom brought by. As you know a regular check up and clean up to make sure my living conditions are okay." (Y/N) said as she rolled her eyes at her mom's actions.
"So when I go home I saw that there were some fruits at the table and there was this one fruit that stood out. You couldn't believe what it was, I was so happy. It looked like a replica of a devil fruit from my show!" (Y/N) said while her friend opened her mouth and then started laughing at her.
"Your telling me that your late because you saw your favorite show's fruit that looked like a devil fruit that your mom brought over?!" Marie said while laughing and rubbing fake tears away while the food was bing placed down in front of them. The girl could only nod while smiling.
"Wow (Y/N), your still the same cute dork back in school. You know not many people would think that you would be interested in stuff like that! Plus I didn't think that you a responsible girl like you would be late for something like that!" Marie said while making (Y/N) sulk a little bit while she ate her food.
Her friend continued "Well that's fine, I guess. So I'm assuming you just got excited since that fruit was there and you just had to watch your show before the weekend came?" making the girl across nod her head.
Marie took another sip of her drink while digging into her lunch. "Hah...Well the devil fruit looking thing? Was it real, like a real fruit or was it just decoration?" she asked.
(Y/N) shrugged. "I don't know it feels real and stuff and has a smell I guess? But then it looks so fake and unreal? So whoever made it probably put in a lot of effort and cool stuff into making it. But you know whenever my mom comes over she always leaves a note for me saying what she left or what she did. I believe she will be coming back tonight to have dinner with me." (Y/N) stated and remembered. "Ah you know this morning when I was in a rush I ate some weird fruit. It tasted really awful but I'll ask my mom where she bought it. Plus I'll ask her about the devil fruit decoration thing."
Flashback
"I'm home." (Y/N) said to herself as she took off her shoes and entered her house. She walked over to the living room and saw a note left by her mother with some fruits and the house looking much cleaner and sparkly than it was before.
She walked over to the table and read the note that was left.
(Y/N),
I did some shopping and bought too much fruit. I decided to give you some and cleaned up the house a bit. Make sure you eat properly and clean up the place. Make sure you call me when you have a chance. Also don't overwork yourself. Be careful. Also I will be coming over again some time to have some dinner with you.
Love you,
Mom.
(Y/N) smiled at the note and placed down the note as she placed down her work bag and made her way to the kitchen.
She saw the fruit that her mom left her and another fruit caught her eye. "What?" she said as her eyes widened and raced over to the counter where the fruit layed in the basket.
"Wow~" (Y/N) slightly fangirled and picked up the weird looking fruit that looked like it was fake. She inspected it a bit more and though to herself 'Wow~ It looks like a devil fruit~ Ah~ How cool is this~ Wow, Mom you know me so well! I wonder if this is part of the gifts she left? Probably?'
But she quickly brushed it off and made herself some dinner. As she ate she continued to stare and look at the fruit that was on the counter. She would observe and look at it as if it was an artifact.
After dinner, she placed her dishes in the sink and went over to the fruit. She sniffed it and felt it. "It feels and looks so real but also fake. Whoever made this is skillful. The design and the swirls are soo cool~" She gushed out about the fruit.
Later that night she couldn't stop gushing and fangirling over the fruit, so to ease her mind she stayed up watching her favorite anime that the fruit came from, 'One Piece'. She watched the newer episodes that came out. Staying up to watch a couple episodes making it 11:55 p.m. She looked at the time and freaked and rushed to go to bed.
Flashback end
Marie only nodded and looked at her friend. "Well for that weird fruit that you ate make sure you pay better attention. We don't need you to be getting sick on us." She laughed a bit. "But anyways how's your mom? I know she was a bit, you know since you left to your new place."
(Y/N) put down her utensils and wiped her mouth with a napkin. "She's doing alright. She's still a little over protective since that incident happened and since that happened she didn't want me to you know be alone and stuff. She still nags me about some of my stuff left in my house. Even though it's still practically clean and I take care of that apartment." she sighs.
Marie giggled a bit "That's good to hear. Well we better get back." she said as the two picked up their bags and left the cafe paying for their meals and headed back to work.
~Time Skip~
(Y/N) picked up her phone to see that it was really late. She had to actually work over time to finish the files and paper work. It was past 2 almost 3 hours she had to work over time leaving her the last person in her office building. She had to lock up.
She sighed and stretched once she got out of her cramped space. "Ah I'm super hungry right now.." (Y/N) grumbled to herself as her stomach growled and made sounds.
"Ah it's best to get out of here and lock up so I can get home." she told herself and remembered that she still had that weird tasting fruit that she ate for breakfast still in her bag. As she locked up she grabbed it out of her bag and looked at what fruit she ate.
Opening the bag she put the fruit in her eyes widened and her hands shook. "I did not just eat that....You're telling me that was edible... No way..." she cried comically as she walked to the station. She now held the mostly eaten fruit in her hands as she walked.
"I did not just eat my decoration fruit from One Piece.....No wonder it tasted weird, it was because this isn't really a fruit? It can't possibly be real...." she talked to herself as she went on the subway.
She decided to put the fruit back in the bag and save whatever was left, sadly.
Getting off the subway and out of the station left about a 10 minute walk back home. The walk was quiet with crickets and flickering lights that were stationed on the sidewalk to brighten the night. A silent street and an eery feeling. A reason why (Y/N) never really liked to walk or go home late or even work overtime.
There's tons of reasons why she doesn't like to do overtime.
1. That she had to overwork herself and stay late to finish work
2. That the time to get home was tiring since she had to work late which tires her out,
3. The dark and creepy feeling of being outside so late at night
4. Not knowing how to completely protect herself since she is pretty weak if a complete stranger or creep comes up to her
5. Being exhausted overall and being paranoid
So she quickly walked to her apartment and took out her keys looking back every so often to check her surroundings. As she came to her door she noticed that the door was slightly cracked open and wasn't locked. Because the moment she put in her keys and applied force the door opened.
(Y/N) widened her eyes and put her keys in between her knuckles to use as a weapon in case. A thousand thoughts raced through her head 'Did someone break in? Was her mother here? Did her mother leave the door open and forgot to close it? Did she forget to lock the door? No, she was pretty sure she locked the door this morning. Is someone still in there? Should she stay out here longer and attract unwanted attention? Should she stay out here in the cold?'
Coming to a conclusion she stupidly decided to go inside. She creaked open the door wider and glanced around to see everything intact. She left her shoes on and slightly closed the door so it wasn't completely shut. (Y/N) then grabbed her shoe horn to smack someone with in case there was someone inside. Though she wasn't sure how much damage a simple shoe horn could do. Looking around her apartment she saw no other life form or anything messed around the house and relaxed.
"No ones here...." (Y/N) sighed out to herself and turned around to turn on the lights and take off her shoes.
How wrong was she when she decided to relax or even enter her house like an idiot. How wrong indeed.

She turned around and was meet with a figure she couldn't make out and a weapon pointed straight at her. Her eyes widened and her breath hitched. She was frozen and couldn't anything but see her life flash before her eyes. Seeing that incident, that was the one thing she wanted to forget and never have to go through again. Never would she have expected her life to end so soon.
A smile, a creepy smile made it's way onto the mysterious person's face, as she could only see the smile but not the rest of the face.
The last thing (Y/N) whispered out of her mouth that managed to escape was "I'm sorry mom."
And a 'BAM' was the last thing she heard. Until her body crashed to the floor. Darkness and the feeling of coldness surrounding her.
