Six Minutes

I turned to Pato with stern eyes. "Give the order, Captain."

Pato gulped nervously and nodded. "OPEN FIRE!"

I got up from the floor and crouched. Blaster fire started going off all around me. I rested the barrel of my rifle on the HASCO block in front of me and squeezed the vertical foregrip.

Blaster fire started coming down from the windows above our fortifications. We had set up position in the buildings too.

Down my sights was a swarm of enemies. I smirked. "Like shooting fish in a barrel."

I squeezed my trigger a few times, contributing to the hail of blaster fire raining upon them. Enemies began to drop in rapid succession. Within those first few seconds, a few dozen of them were dead.

Then, they started to return fire. My eyes widened as I saw a wall of red approaching me. I dropped to the ground like a rock.

A tremendous torrent of blaster bolts scorched the HASCO blocks behind which we hid. Dust filled the air in vast clouds. The dust glowed red as the blaster bolts flew through it.

I took a hand off my rifle and pulled my gaiter up to cover my face. It didn't protect my eyes, but my nose and mouth would be covered.

I regripped my rifle and popped back over my cover. I was able to see silhouettes through the dust. I squeezed my trigger repeatedly to thin the herd.

One minute has passed.

Suddenly, I felt danger. I dove to the right, and just in time.

An explosion rocked the HASCO wall I had just been behind. I went sliding on the floor from both diving and the force of the explosion. Pieces of rock pelted and cut me all over.

My ears were ringing. "FUCK!"

I crawled in the direction I was thrown, ending up on the side of a building. I got up and then ran to the corner of the alley my padawan had disappeared into. Then, I leaned out from behind the corner.

Several shots were let loose from my rifle before I ducked back behind the corner. For safe measure, I took an additional step back.

I was glad I did so because the corner was quickly shredded by a torrent of blaster bolts. Were they focusing me? Did they somehow identify me?

I clicked my tongue and looked around before shrugging. "Up we go."

I jumped using the force and hopped off the walls twice before landing on the top of the building. Once up there, I found some conveniently placed household appliances. There were items ranging in size from a microwave to a refrigerator.

I laughed. "Ha! Fuck me!"

Two minutes have passed.

I let go of my blaster and raised a fridge into the air. Then, I sent it flying towards the hoard of enemies.

Overlord reached me through comms. "General. Wheels are up. ETA 4 minutes."

I paused for a moment as a washing machine floated in the air next to me. Why did he say, "wheels up"? There are no wheels on aircraft here. Everything takes off vertically...

I shrugged and threw my hands forward, sending the washing machine to do my bidding. Then, I looked back to throw more appliances but found myself gob smacked.

Before me was an anvil and a piano. I shook my head. "Looney Tunes it is."

I raised the anvil into the air and chucked it. The piano soon followed. The sounds were exactly as I expected...

Three minutes have passed.

A feeling of danger came about once more. I looked out and watched a rocket fly straight up into the air. Then, it turned and was heading towards me.

I looked over my shoulder and saw a toaster. I quickly grabbed it with the force and flung it at the rocket. Then, I ducked down and covered the back of my head.

A violent explosion shook the air as shrapnel spread across the roof. Some metal was lodged in my left bicep.

I reached over and pulled it out. In doing so, I fell on my behind. I needed a minute to breathe. Deep breaths sucked in through my gullet.

I then grabbed one of the injectors from my belt and jammed it into my arm. There was a slight burn as the wound was cleaned but then a cooling sensation spread through my body. It was relieving as I sat there for a moment.

Four minutes have passed.

Sirius suddenly spoke through our private channel. "Bingo."

I smirked and popped my head over the edge of the roof. I was just in time to see a pair of glowing green blades bisect several silhouettes. Just as fast as the appeared, the lightsabers and the silhouette they were attached to disappeared into the dust.

Scooching back over, I got on one knee, rifle in hand. With a series of rapid squeezes, I let loose dozens of shots on the enemy. They were dropping like flies.

As I shot, I heard a clanking sound from the other side of the roof. It sounded like metal digging into concrete. I took a few steps back as I eyed the ledge carefully.

Suddenly, three humanoid droids leapt onto the roof. Each pulled a shock staff from its back. Arcs of electricity crackled as their staffs thumped to life. One of them ran straight at me while the other two moved to flank.

Five minutes have passed.

I unclipped my rifle and tossed it to the side before holding both hands out to the side with my palms open. Two lightsabers flew from my belt to my palms. They were activated just in time as the droid in front of me chopped with its staff.

I slashed outward with my right lightsaber, twisting my body slightly to put more strength behind it. The incoming staff was easily deflected. I followed up with a stab using my left lightsaber. The violet blade went straight through the droid's head. Its eye sockets went dark.

I then cut through the droid and held my lightsaber out to each side. Chops from each of the remaining droids were blocked.

Leaning to the left, I kicked out with my right foot. The droid stumbled back several steps.

With that hand now free, I slashed my right lightsaber at the other droid's left leg. It was cut cleanly through it.

The droid started to tip over. I twirled both my lightsaber into a reverse grip and then stabbed the droid as it fell. Another pair of eye sockets flickered to darkness.

I then turned to the last droid that was now charging at me. The staff it held was rapidly spinning in its hand.

With careful timing, I slashed outwards with my left lightsaber. The spinning staff stopped and was pushed away from me. I then performed another outward slash with my right lightsaber, taking off the last droid's head.

Overlord spoke through the channel again. "ETA 10 seconds."

My eyes widened as I realized just how fucked I was. I was completely exposed to the blast.

A voice then came from behind me. "Master, I'm back."

I could hear the roar of an engine on the horizon. The airstrike was imminent.

My head snapped towards my padawan. "GET DOWN!"

I dropped to my stomach and covered the back of my head. There was a thud as Sirius did the same.

After a few seconds, I briefly heard an explosion before my hearing was gone. The building shook violently, barely avoiding collapse. A light shower of concrete and other debris pelted my back.

Slowly, my hearing came back. There was an incessant ringing in my ears but that gradually disappeared as well over the next dozen seconds.

As I opened my eyes, I found myself covered in dust. I was truly glad I had worn that gaiter. My lungs would have been filled with dust.

I carefully stood up and looked around. There was just a few feet of roof remaining between myself and the collapsed portion of the building.

Turning to Sirius, I found him struggling to stand up. "You're late."

He shot me a glare and didn't say anything in return.
