Chapter 3 – Vampire at the School

Atsushi's POV 

Later, Yuchiro, Yoichi, and I came back to school with snacks. Atsushi helped out by carrying some of the snacks for them.

"Why are you helping out, Atsushi-kun?" Yuichiro asked me in mild annoyance.

"What, it's one of my favorite things to do," I responded.

"Thanks a lot, Ikari-san," Yoichi said to him.

"I'm glad to help," I responded back happily.

They and Shinoa then stopped walking and Yoichi apologized to Yuichiro again.

"Stop apologizing, will you?" Yuichiro responded. "What's your story?"

"Yeah, it's not your fault, Yoichi-kun," I added.

Then, Yoichi told us the time his sister got killed by a vampire, and his desire to seek revenge for her death.

After that, we were in mild emotion, and I commented, "Wow, I feel sorry for you, Yoichi-kun."

I knew this because I watched the anime itself in my previous life, but decided to keep his origins and true identity a secret from anyone in this new life.

Then, after that, just as Yuichiro walks away, suddenly, an explosion burst out from one of the buildings within the compound, causing the students to panic.

"Woah, what was that?" I asked.

Then, an announcement said, "A vampire from the nearby biological research facility has escaped. All students…"

As Shinoa commented, Yuichiro thought to himself how vampires' strength can be fueled by human blood.

"What should we do, Yuichiro-kun?" I asked him.

I was a bit frantic because of the situation but alerted at the same time.

Then, Yuichiro looked at me seriously. "I'll kill that vampire!"

He then ran off, stepping on a can of drink along the way.

"Yuichiro-kun!" I responded to this. But I couldn't help but watch him from the distance.

Then, as the trampled can burst its contents, Shinoa said, "That idiot."

I had no idea what to do next, so I said to Yoichi, "Come on, let's make sure he was alive."

"Right," Yoichi replied in agreement.

Yoichi and I then ran off to search for Yuichiro, leaving Shinoa behind.

Along the way, I opened my locker and grabbed my weapon, a hontou-tachi sword.

After that, we kept on searching and searching until, we reached one part of the building. Then, we looked down to the ground, only to see Yuichiro being grabbed in the neck by that vampire on the ground.

"Yuichiro-kun!" I called his name in desperate.

Yoichi and I then ran downstairs.

Even though she got stabbed by Yuichiro, the vampire didn't die until, Guren came and stabbed her with his Cursed Weapon.

Then, that vampire dissipated into nothingness.

Not long after, as Yuichiro shouted how annoyed he was by the condition set by Guren, Yoichi yelled out, "Hyakuya! You're okay!"

He then went down and gave Yuichiro a deep hug while shedding some tears.

Seeing this, I asked, "What in the world are you doing, Yoichi-kun?"

Then, while Yuichiro was unconscious, Guren decided to keep his promise and allowed him into the vampire extermination unit, alongside Yoichi and me, even though I didn't do anything at all.

 "What...?" I asked in my mind while being chagrined.

Later, Yuichiro woke up the infirmary, with me, Yoichi, and Shinoa in the room.

"Yuichiro-kun, are you okay?" I asked him.

Looking at me, Yuichiro responded, "Atsushi-kun?"

Then, once she saw that Yuichiro had woken up, Shinoa closed the window and said to Yuichiro that he was now a part of the vampire extermination unit for fulfilling the condition and for saving his friends.

"Yeah, we're now in the same unit," I enthusiastically said to Yuichiro.

"I see," Yuichiro responded.

Then, as Yuichiro, Shinoa, and Yoichi placed their hands in signal of a new friendship, I watches this with a smile on his face thinking, "I am not sure about this though. I'm skeptical."

But, will I figure out what he really want to do before it's too late?
