CHANGE OF PLANS

Bosco stood outside Lecture Hall G. He forked out his smartphone to call his girlfriend Agnes Nzanzu. The lecture that had brought him to the university had not taken place due to the Emergency posting.

This was a blessing in disguise; it gave him a chance to meet her earlier than they had agreed upon.

He scrolled through the recent calls until he saw her name, then dialed. The phone started calling on the other end. It did not take long for her to pick up.

The moment she picked up, her cheerful voice filled his ear. "Hey lover boy, this is a surprise. I thought you were in for the morning lecture."

Agnes knew of how seriously Bosco took his lectures, he never missed unless there was a serious reason to do so. And he had also never called her during a lecture hour, it was mostly her calling him. When this happened, he politely explained to her that he would call back after the lecture.

He knew he had surprised her, "Lover girl, guess what?"

She decided to play along, "The lecturer kicked you out of the lecture because you were daydreaming about your beautiful girlfriend."

This amused him, "Hahaha, you wish. Anyway, it was not like that. The lecture ended early because the PS from the Ministry of Health came by. He communicated that we have been temporally posted in different regional hospitals for the next five days starting tomorrow." He told her why.

"I and a colleague have been posted to Mutukula Hospital. Her name is Monica, she has requested me to bring her along to meet you. Having heard a lot about you, she is eager to meet my beautiful girlfriend in the flesh." Bosco exaggerated.

"Oh my God, I did not know I was popular with your friends. Bosco, that's so sweet." Replied Agnes in her sweet and cheerful voice.

Bosco started blushing when he heard that his fabricated words had pleased her. "Lover girl, how can I not talk about you? You are literally the center of my existence." He added in more flattering words.

"I am the luckiest woman alive. Bosco, I love you so much." She said it from the bottom of her heart.

"So, lover girl. Can we come over now?" He broached the topic of calling her.

"Yes baby, please come. Bring that friend of yours, I also can't wait to meet her." Bosco punched the air in excitement, this had gone better than he expected.

"What about me?" He teased her.

"Oh, lover boy, I can't wait to see you. I've been missing you like crazy." She replied in a voice she knew turned him on.

Bosco chuckled. "I've missed you too, lover girl. There's something else, I lied to her that we were going to meet your parents."

This took her by surprise, "Bosco you naughty boy. All this time you have never requested to meet my father, but you have the guts to lie to your friend about meeting my parent."

"I am sorry lover girl. Maybe when this crisis is over, we can go together to Kisangani to meet your father." Agnes had lost her mother when she was young, and she had told him that her father and uncle had raised her.

Agnes then surprised Bosco with her next words. "You know what, Bosco? There's a verse that says that all things work together for the good of those who love God.

Even though this wasn't in our plan, I am super excited about it. And guess what? We can take Dad's private jet and fly to Kisangani to see him! He'd be delighted to meet you."

Bosco was stunned by her suggestion. "Are you serious, Agnes? You want me to meet your dad in Kisangani today?"

"Yes! Don't tell me a big boy like you, is scared?" Agnes asked him.

"No, I am not scared. It is just that it is too sudden. Moreover, we have to travel to Mutukula before tomorrow morning, and report for duty." He tried defending himself.

"Agnes… did you mention something about a private jet?" He was taken up with defending himself that he had not processed properly the last bit until now.

"You heard me, I meant my father's private jet." She clarified.

"But…," words got stuck in his throat. He knew she came from a rich family, but she had never told him that her father had a private plane that was at her disposal.

"I did not know your father had a private jet; this is a surprise to me," Bosco told her.

Owning a private jet was not a small feat. With climate change, the cost of aviation fuel had been steadily increasing to levels that were unsustainable to most millionaires or billionaires of the late 2020s. Not taking into consideration the modern tech that came incorporated into these jets. Even the popular vintage private jet models like Gulfstream or Cessna cost above 7.5 million WCs. All this did not take into consideration things such as the cost of servicing, airport fees, storage, and pilot dues.

For an individual to own one, was a testament to their extreme wealth.

Agnes had not found it important to tell him. "It is not important, now that you know; hope it does not change anything between us." She knew Bosco came from a poor family or lower middle class family, but that had not deterred her from loving him since she had fallen in love with the man, not his family's wealth. Because of this mentality, she had not told him of the extent of their family wealth.

"Not at all my love." Bosco was quick to assure her.

"Bosco, do you love me?" Agnes asked him.

"Of course, lover girl. I love you so much." Bosco replied.

"Then leave it to me, you will be in Mutukula by the end of this day with your friend." She told him. "Anyway, we are making good use of the jet, Dad had sent it to pick me but I was waiting to first meet you before flying out," Agnes told him.

"Alright lover girl, we shall be there in one hour."

"Why one hour?" She asked him.

"Lover girl, since we shall be flying to Kisangani and then to Mutukula. I think it's better to come with our packed bags." He explained himself.

As a man, it could not take him long to pack his bags, but since he was with a lady; he had to leave some room for a slight delay.

"Okay, see you." She told him. "Let me call Dad and arrange the jet. This is going to be one incredible day."

"Bye." As they hung up, Bosco couldn't help but smile at how a simple change in plans had led to an unexpected adventure, and he couldn't wait to meet her father.

He was excited and yet nervous to embark on their impromptu journey to Kisangani. It was roughly 1373 km or 853 miles from Dodoma to Kisangani, and a flight journey of about 2 hours.
