Chapter 9: Like father Like son

It has been three days since my father was dead, and according to our traditions, we mourn the previous Alpha for two days and on the third day, the new Alpha will be crowned.

It's true that I was still angry because of my father's death, but deep down, I was very excited. I just couldn't wait to be crowned the new Alpha of Oz pack.

Around ten a.m., the whole population of Oz Pack has already assembled in front of the palace to witness my coronation.

Meanwhile, I was still in front of my mirror, admiring my royal attire. I just couldn't believe that this was finally happening. I had waited for years to sit on that throne, and finally, the day I had anticipated for very long has finally arrived. Well,  just as they say, patience is a virtue.

As I was still admiring my attire, I heard a knock on the door of my chamber, and without hesitating, I asked the person to come in.

"Good morning, my Alpha," the guard greeted me while bowing once he came in.

"Yes, how can I help you?" I asked him while looking at him through the mirror.

"My Alpha, the elders have arrived; they are all awaiting your arrival to begin the ceremony," he said with a shaky tone.

"Ok, I have heard. I hope all the citizens are present." I asked him.

"Yes, my Alpha, they are all present," he said with a shaky voice without raising his head.

"Ok, you can leave now," I said to him, and immediately he quickly walked out of my chamber.

Once he left, I smiled at myself because I know that wherever my father is, he will be proud of me because I have instilled in the guards the same fear that my father instilled in them when he was alive. No one dared challenge his orders, and I'm sure that no one among them will dare challenge me. Concerning the citizens, I'm sure that they will all be present because, according to the degree to which I signed, anyone who isn't present at my coronation will be executed, whether it's a child or an adult.

After admiring myself to my satisfaction, I started walking majestically towards where the coronation was going to take place.

Once I came out, the elders stood up and greeted me while bowing down to me.

Without replying to them, I went and sat down on the royal throne that was reserved for me.

As I was sitting down, I could clearly see the angry faces of the whole population. I know that they don't like me, but who cares? Whether they like me or not, I'm soon going to be crowned their Alpha, and they will have no choice but to submit to my rule.

After sitting down, one of the elders stood up and turned to the citizens before proceeding:

"Today is the beginning of a new era, a new beginning for Oz Pack.

Today Oz Pack is going to open a new chapter; we all know how Alpha Darlington cared for and protected our pack, but unfortunately, he is no more." He paused and looked at the citizens who were all staring angrily at him, some even hissing.

Afterwards, he proceeded:

"Fortunately, his successor Alpha Tony Darlington is going to continue from where his father stopped, and since blood cannot lie, we are all sure that he will protect and care for Oz Pack just like his father," the elder said while expecting the citizens to start cheering in joy, but unfortunately they all remained indifferent; only the elders and the guards beside me were the ones that clapped.

Afterwards, the elder signaled for me to speak to the people before I was crowned.

Without hesitating, I stood up from my throne and looked at the angry faces of the citizens before proceeding:

"My dear citizens of Oz Pack, I know that you are all angry and sad because of how the Alpha was assassinated, and believe me, I sympathize with all of you," I said to them, but they all snubbed me.

"Mind you all that he was my father, and I want you all to know that after my coronation I will look for those responsible for his death and bring them to justice," I said to them, but they remained motionless as if I wasn't even addressing them.

With that, I heaved a sigh of deception before returning to my throne.

After sitting down, one of the elders stood up, took the crown, and approached me.

"Today we, the elders and loyal citizens of Oz Pack, are crowning you as our Alpha before the moon goddess. You will fight and protect Oz Pack with all your might, and everything you will do will be in the good interest of Oz Pack. May the moon goddess help you in assuring these great responsibilities that are bestowed on you," he said before putting the crown on my head, and afterwards they all bowed down before me, but to my greatest surprise, the citizens didn't bow down.

With that, I got infuriated and stood up from the throne angrily.

"So you have all decided to rebel against your Alpha; none of you wants to bow before your Alpha, right?" I asked them. My voice was arraying in anger, but they all remained silent.

"Guards strike down anyone who refuses to bow before me," I commanded my guards, and immediately they brought out their swords and started walking towards them. Without hesitating, they all started bowing down while trembling in fear.

With that, I smiled at myself and returned to my throne.

I think my father was right all along; the only way that an Alpha can bring his subjects to submit to him is by being harsh and cruel.

"No one dares stand up until I say so!" I barked angrily at them as they were about to stand up.

Without hesitating, they quickly bowed down again while trembling in fear.
