Live in the Present

Taking her hand, Alex and Alice headed out of the room and down the stairs to the living room. The night had already fallen but that just made it the perfect time to go out.

"Alex and I are going out," Alice said aloud even though she didn't see anyone nearby.

A second later, both Alice and Alex heard a voice coming from the other side of the house.

It was Esme.

"All right have fun!" Esme's voice said.

Alice nodded to herself and then together with Alex they headed to the garage.

Parked inside were a variety of cars, Rosalie was there fixing up an old BMW, or at least it looked old to Alex but it might have been the newest model for this day and age.

"Hey, Rose!" Alice said, her voice was cheery, she seemed to have regained all the joy at the fact that she was going out on a date with Alex.

"Hey, you're going out?" Rosalie asked as she looked at her and then turned to Alex.

For the first time, Alex heard Rosalie talk to him without sounding furious or some other negative emotion.

She simply sounded confused.

"Why is she dressed like that but you just have a pair of old jeans and a battered white t-shirt?" Rosalie asked as she looked at him.

"Uh, I didn't think she was going to dress up so well, and I don't really have any clothes like that," Alex said as he rubbed the back of his neck.

Alice patted his shoulder.

Alex suddenly felt a bad omen, it was immediate and he almost ran away from her but it was much too late to back down now.

"Don't worry Rose, I plan on going to the mall in Port Angels with him, I'll just dress him up there" Alice said with a large smile, her eyes twinkling in joy at merely the thought.

'No, I need to get away' Alex thought instantaneously as he looked at Alice with the corner of his eyesight.

"Uhm it's alright Alice, we can do that another time. Let's just go watch a movie" Alex tried to persuade her but he already knew deep down.

It was already a lost cause, there were no chances of him winning this one.

Alice simply turned to him and stared for a moment.

And then a mischievous grin overtook her expression.

Alice said to Alex with a voice that made it sound like she was doing him the greatest favor.

"Oh you don't have to worry, I have enough money Alex, you can just treat me to lunch or something another time. You don't have to worry, I'll buy you an entire set of clothes, actually two or three, that would be better." Alice said as she looked at Alex, she could see the despair increase in his eyes as she upgraded the amount of clothes she wanted to buy him.

Holding his hands up, Alex tried to find any way to get out but he couldn't think of any, turning his head to Rosalie, he pleaded with his eyes but all he got was a smirk and eyes full of amusement.

Alex looked at her as if she was a demon, she had been the one who had put the clothes in the conversation in the first place.

Mouthing the words at her, Alex said.

"You will pay for this demon" 

And then took Alice's hand and headed to the Porsche.

"Can I drive tonight?" Alex asked as he looked at her.

"Sure, I wasn't planning on driving either way," Alice said as she threw him the keys, catching them mid-air, Alex went and opened Alice's door and then went inside the car himself.

"Ooh, a gentleman?" Alice asked as she teased Alex who seemed to be pretty easy to fluster.

'It's only because of you that I'm like this, how am I supposed to stay calm when you look like that' Alex thought to himself as he released a soft sigh and turned the car on.

*Rumble*

The engine lit up and the car released a large rumbling sound.

It sounded like music to Alex's ears.

'I'm definitely buying a Porsche as soon as I get enough money.' Alex thought and then reversed the car out of the garage, making sure that he didn't hit any of the other cars, he really didn't want to get in that hellspawn's anger after he finally managed to get on bearable terms with her.

Once outside on the road, Alex floored the gas pedal and they started heading toward Port Angels.

"Werne't you scared of the police catching you?" Alice asked as she looked at him with a smile.

"I can just make it so that they forget I was ever there. Let's just enjoy ourselves for tonight shall we?" Alex said as he drove faster and faster.

'The saying goes that if you bought the whole speedometer then you should damn well use it all shouldn't you?' Alex thought as he drove down the roads.

He wouldn't be able to do this with other cars but the Porsche took every turn perfectly, there was almost no chance of the car swerving out of control and even if it did in the rare chance, Alex knew that he and Alice wouldn't even get a scratch.

Alex wanted to let loose tonight, to never stop thinking about something, so he could take his mind off of things.

So he didn't have to remember the mess that had become his relationship with Bella.

He knew though that he couldn't run away and neither was he a coward to run away from his problems.

Tonight was going to be a night just for him and Alice.

He and his mate and nobody else.

Tomorrow's problems were for the Alex of tomorrow, not for the Alex of the present.

With that decision, Alex removed all thoughts of what had happened in the field today and let a small smile show on his face.
