Chapter 120 - The Island Of Dr. Merlot (2)

[Inside the communications room at Beacon academy]

Dr. Oobleck was telling Oz that he had lost communications with the teams. Mr. Howlett was there also as he was traveling with Ozpin when they were discussing possible rescue teams since they are some of their best students.

Team CFVY is their best second years team while Team JNPR is the second runner-up for the best team of the first years. Team RWBYS is no doubt the strongest team among the freshman.

While they were coming up with plans Ozpin decided it would be best to send Mr. Howlett as he had the best survival skills out of everyone there and was probably the only one that would be helpful in a situation that could change at any moment.

They continued hashing out plans when they could hear garbled words coming through the comms speaker on the side.

Dr. Oobleck guided them telling them what they should do specifically to shut down the tower and to be careful around the island since it belonged to Dr. Merlot. He wasn't sure if they heard him or not but could only hope and think that Shallot the walking calamity would keep them safe.

They knew that they were fine seeing that they were moving through the island rather quickly and then Ozpin took the headset when he heard Dr. Merlot speaking.

Merlot: "For such terrific students as yourselves, this should be an easy test, right?"

The teachers could hear the kids fighting or more like explosions going off and some handclaps being heard with Nora yelling in the background about juggling the Grimm.

Ozpin: "So we meet again, Dr. Merlot."

Merlot: "Ozpin? Or shall I call you Oz like old times, chum? Maybe you prefer the name Ozma, I can't decide with how many names you use."

Ozpin's eyes squinted hearing that when Ozpin asked the others to leave the room and that he would be doing the talking while Mr. Howlett and Dr. Oobleck would be going on a ship to recover the children.

Ozpin: "I thought you perished in the Mountain Glenn disaster, a tragedy you played no small part in."

Merlot: "'Twas a mere speed bump on the superhighway of scientific progress. You couldn't possibly imagine the ramifications of my latest research. After all, it would have been a success if you would have agreed to my ideas.

It only failed because I had to come up with alternative solutions since you wouldn't give me what I wanted which would have revolutionized our way of life."

Ozpin: "The world was a much safer place without you, Merlot. If you would have perished before then Mountain Glenn would have probably still been around."

Merlot: "You're calling me the reckless one? Sending your students out on an excursion like this? I wouldn't put the lives of children at risk when you have so many at your call to do these missions."

Ozpin: "They're more than a match for your mindless robots. What you're doing here is wrong, Merlot."

Merlot: "And who said that I only have mindless robots. I admit that it was an oversight not noticing that one of your students had an ability such as magnetism. What I need is their bodies and the way they have managed to develop such destructive abilities. You may not have given me what I want so I will just take what I need from your "precious" students."

Ozpin: "You have always been wrong Merlot and you will never achieve anything with the way you do things."

Merlot: "Trying to make the world a better place is wrong? Say what you will about me. It won't change the fact that you're powerless to stop me. I will achieve my goal if it's the last thing I do."

Ozpin: "You'll botch this somehow. You always do."

Merlot: "Well, let's agree to disagree. I tell you Oz, it has been truly a pleasure catching up, but unfortunately, it's time for me to run. Farewell, old chum."

Shallot: "Talk about the tension you can cut with a knife."

Shallot was sitting on top of a pile of Grimm bodies. The floor was littered with them. There were hundreds nearly a thousand of them. The others were slightly worn out even Blake as she hadn't had to deal with such a large number before and Shallot could use anything widespread as it would most likely hit someone else with all of them this close to each other.

Team JNPR was exhausted with Jaune laying on his back breathing heavily, while Ren had his hands on his knees while Nora looked like she was still ready for a fight. Team CFVY was doing slightly better but was still breathing heavily.

Shallot: "Hey, Ruby!"

Ruby: "Yeah?"

Shallot: "I always wondered... what happened to your headphones you used to always wear when I first met you?"

Blake: "I'm also curious about that."

Ruby rubbed the back of her head.

Ruby: "Hehe... I had accidentally broken them when I fell asleep with them last time when she was studying and haven't gone to get new ones yet."

Shallot nodded his hand in understanding. While everyone was catching their breathes and Shallot relaxed knowing that he must be getting stronger because he wasn't even sweating yet.

Shallot: 'I wish I had a scouter.'

While the bodies were still vanishing they got another call from Professor Ozpin.

Shallot answered his along with others.

Shallot: "Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger! Can I take your order?"

Ozpin was stumped for a second thinking that the comms were redirected to another place by Dr, Merlot before their conversation ended. They all gathered themselves and continued traveling across the island.

They hadn't come across another Grimm while walking. They came across a research facility. There were vats of liquids in containers outside along with neon blue glowing liquid puddles everywhere.

Shallot: "That doesn't look safe. I think it's best if we don't step anywhere close to the stuff. Not trying to get cancer from anything here."

The others nodded also being able to smell the chemicals in the air. They looked at the base while Shallot was thinking whether he should just blow it up or search for some info in the systems. He could see if there were anything that he could add some more information.

While Ruby was walking next to one of the puddles she could smell something that made her step away from it.

Ruby: "Ewwww... this place smells terrible."

Weiss was looking around at everything seeing that it was a uniformed facility but more like things were just thrown together.

Weiss: "What has Merlot done with this part of the island?"

Blake was also looking around and couldn't see much but waste and the facility here.

Blake: " I don't know, but there is nothing even alive here."

Yang: [sighs] "I wish I could say something funny about this place, but it's just so gross and sad here."

Fox: "It must be a bad sight if even she's not making a joke about it but from the smell, it doesn't seem that great."

Ren was looking around and thinking about all the abomination of Grimm they had come across. He had a shiver run down his back thinking about what would happen if someone was bathed in the stuff.

Ren: "Hmm, I don't like the looks of this place."

Something inside of Ren was telling him to keep his guard up even if they have people that are overly strong with them. He doesn't know if they let their guard down will be taken off guard by someone.
