Chapter 119 - The Island of Dr. Merlot (1)

The hunters and Huntresses were on the ship and had just arrived at the island from Forever Falls. They got off the ship while Coco was looking around.

Coco: "We should contact Dr. Oobleck and Professor Port to let them know that we have arrived at the island."

The others nodded at that while Shallot looked around at the island. He could see a crane in the distance by where they stopped the ship and a tower some distance away. He was waiting to see what they should do since they were here now.

Coco tried contacting Dr. Oobleck but she couldn't get through when it finally connected. She tried listening but it was just gibberish words and static coming through.

Dr. Oobleck: [Radio static... indecipherable voice]

Ruby: "Dr. Oobleck? Is that you? You're breaking up!"

Yang: "I don't think that we will be able to do anything about communications right now."

Velvet: "I can hear a small buzzing sound coming from that tower over there."

Fox: "Yeah, there may be a jammer in the area close to us, and most probably is that tower we can see."

Velvet started floating in the air.

Velvet: "I can go and check it out so we can see if that's what's causing trouble for us."

Velvet started flying away toward the tower when Shallot disappeared from his spot appearing in front of her. They all could hear a loud explosion and a blue ball shoot towards where Velvet was in the air. Shallot threw a kick sending the blue ball sideways into the tower.

The blue ball exploded with electricity shorting out the tower. For a couple of seconds.

Oobleck: "I sent a visual scan [gibberish sounds]... do what you did [gibberish sounds] connections."

The others started running toward the tower so that they can continue in. The map they were sent from the scan showed that there were three towers and the one that was hit only went out for a couple of seconds.

Shallot launched a ki blast at the tower destroying it. The tower fell crumbling to pieces. They all continued forward towards the direction where the other tower was shown on the scan.

Oobleck: [Radio static] "Whatever you did... just keep doing that! The radio seems to give me some feedback so I'm not sure how much [unintelligible speaking]... somewhere else on the island. You must make sure at all costs that you [radio static]. Understood?"

Ruby: "Dr. Oobleck, we kinda heard you. Let's keep exploring, team!"

Weiss: "Hmmm, not quite sure I caught all of that. Something about another tower?"

Blake: "Yeah he said signal is still being jammed from somewhere else so we need to get to the other towers."

Yang: "All I heard was "Keep doing that", so that means we need to disable more radio jammers? Should be easy enough."

Jaune: "Yeah, that was all I was able to hear."

Nora: "Yeeeah! So, either Oobleck just butt-dialed us, OR, we need to cause some destruction!"

Nora started laughing like a crazy person while holding her hammer.

They started moving forward when they could see something in the distance up ahead.

Pyrrha: "The second tower's up here, keep moving!"

Ren: "The next tower's ahead."

Pyrrha and Ren said at almost the same time while Coco was telling Velvet that she has to be more careful and not haphazardly start flying everywhere just because she can while Yatsuhashi was also there along with Coco telling her that it was dangerous to separate on a place we know nothing about.

Fox was listening to the humming sound that was coming from the tower when he heard something else. Something like metal clinking.

Fox: "There may be enemies incoming. Sounds like droids like what the general uses from the footsteps."

Everyone was prepared while Shallot had a lazy look on his face along with Blake.

Blake: "Still don't know why you all are concerned about some droids when they are easy to deal with. Just have Pyrrha crush them with her semblance."

The droids appeared standing with 10 of them with a red and black color scheme wielding spears and some wielding guns. Pyrrha listened to what Blake said and moved her hands in front of her and focused on the metal. She made a squeezing motion with her hands and the robots crumbled like tin cans.

Pyrrha: "Well that was anti-climatic."

Shallot: "Now you should understand how me and Blake feel when it comes to sparring sessions in class."

They continued forward when a large Boarbatusk three times the size of average landed in front of them after dropping from an overhang. Shallot was over-staying for this mission and just blasted it feeling that this mission was taking longer than it needed and he just wanted to be finished.

They continued on two the second tower with this time Blake sending a ki blast destroying it. They looked on the scanned map and could see that there was only one more tower to destroy to get rid of the jammers.

Oobleck: [Through less radio static than before] "Team! It's working. The signal seems better but for some reason, I'm not sure if you can still hear me. Just a little more and I can pinpoint your exact location on the island. And if you can't do that [radio static]. Nevertheless, keep it up!"

Weiss: "Let's get our communications back online."

Blake: "I usually wouldn't agree with Weiss but I agree on this."

Weiss: "Hey, what did I do?"

Blake: "I can still hear you complaining to Team JNPR since we only stay across from each other in the dorms."

Weiss's eyes open knowing that Blake must have heard her constant complaints and if she knew most likely Shallot knew.

Weiss: 'Is that why he still calls me ice queen and doesn't call me by my name like everyone else?'

Everyone could hear the roar of Grimm and the stampede of feet rushing towards them but Shallot blasted every Grimm that entered his site not have any more distractions. Everyone has had their share of fighting and experience and he has gotten Ruby to get used to flying along with Velvet.

His goals were completed and he was ready to call the mission completed and just needed to see this out to the end. They ran to the tower and this time before Shallot or Blake blasted the tower Coco was already up ahead at the tower and pressed a single button that shut it off.

Coco: "Seems that there is an off button on the panels."

Weiss: "Which means that you didn't have to destroy the towers by force and all you needed to do was press a button."

Shallot: "It's not my island. Why should I care if I destroy everything on it."

After the button was pressed they could see that the communicators were opened and that they could get clear calls through. Everyone except Shallot got a call connecting to them. An old voice similar to the voice from the last lab but this one seems more composed.

???: "Ahhh, that's better. Sorry, but the reception is always so bad all the way out here. I hope you're enjoying your stay on the island. You're the first visitors I've had in, well, you are the first."

Weiss: "Dr. Oobleck?! Who is this?"

Coco: "I don't believe this is Dr. Oobleck."

Shallot pulled out his scroll that should be connected to his communicator and saw that someone tried to hack into his communications line. He always set up protections to not be caught off guard letting someone get access to anything he has that important.

After all, if he didn't want Blake to find his notebook he wouldn't have brought it with him. He needed it so that Blake would have complete trust in him seeing that he has faulty plans sometimes.

Merlot: "Oh, where are my manners? Allow me to introduce myself. My name's Dr. Merlot. You don't know me, but I most certainly know who you are. Nevertheless, I'm thrilled you're here. You might be exactly what I need for a very important... experiment."

Shallot: 'This seems odd. Shouldn't he be fuming at this point? All of his plans were ruined by me and him contacting me has let me gain access to his system on the island even though he made sure to cut me off previously.'

Shallot thought something was up and wanted to see how this would play out since he was sure that he could do some things that could take over all of his connections.

Shallot went through the scroll and saw that there weren't any of his droids connected to the system on this island when there should have been.

Shallot: 'Did he make a transfer for a different system... well played if that is true.'

Yang: "An experiment? Are you trying to bore us to death?"

Weiss: "Maybe he wants to do something like what we saw in his last lab."

Merlot: "For such terrific students as yourselves, this should be an easy test, right?"

Jaune: "Is he even listening to us."
