Magical Beast (2)

Link froze for a bit, he can hear the creature's footsteps heading his way. He didn't understand how it could find him and get so close that fast.

"It's fast, too fast. I don't think i can outrun it" As he finished his thought, Link vanished from where he was, appearing again on top of a tree hiding behind one of its huge branches, trying to stay out of sight.

"How did it find me?" Link asked "I did everything as i was taught, from my scent to my tracks i covered everything"

<This is not a wild animal Link. It's a Magical Beast, it doesn't depend on those to track something, all it needs is to follow the scent of your Mana>

"What? The scent of my Mana?" Link asked, confused. Even though he knew nothing about Magical Beasts, he did fight the Hell Bears, but he got lucky since they didn't take him seriously in the first place and only toyed with him, which led to their downfall.

<Magical beasts are Monsters that reached a certain level of Mana and Intelligence. They do differ since many Ranks and Levels exist, but there's one thing that all of them share, and that is their Mana Sense. I'm guessing since you were at the spot where the Wind Wolf died, it thinks that you have it>

"You didn't think you could have told me this sooner?" Link frowned, his heart beating faster. Images of his fight with the Hell Bears keeps flashing, reminding him of the dreadful experience.

<I apologize, i did not think that Magical Beasts exist in this area, but even if they do, i'm guessing they're Low Level. The Hell Bears were probably the strongest ones around, so don't be scared>

Link activated Shadow Walk, leaning behind the branch as he heard the Creature close by. He knew that he had no chance of escaping it. If it wanted to find him it will, and leading it back to the village is something Link can't let happen.

Boom!

The tree next to the one he was on shook, the ruffling of the leaves lead to a huge number of them falling.

As Link followed the red leaves with his eyes as they fell, he saw it. A huge black Wolf bumped the tree as it stopped, looking left and right, sniffing the air.

"What? Isn't that a wolf too? Did it kill the other one?" Link thought, looking the creature over, finding that the only difference between the two creatures being the color of it's fur.

<Why are you confused? Humans kill each other all the time, even doing worse things to others. They probably fought over territory, the White Wolf ending up losing to the Black Wolf.>

"Then why is it still coming after me? The White Wolf is dead"

<For Monsters, Mana cores are extremely valuable too. Since it killed the White Wolf, it wants it, so thinking that you took the body, it tracked you.>

"I don't have it anymore, what should I do?"

<For a Magical Beast to grow faster and evolve, it needs the Mana cores, so it will not leave you until either of you is dead>

Link frowned, reaching and grabbing his Hunting knife. "It won't be me" He muttered, glaring at the Wolf.

As if it felt Link's killing intent, the Wolf looked up, but to its disappointment, no one was there.

Roar!

Suddenly, the Wolf let out a loud roar, flipping over and kicking what was on top of it's back. It was Link, the Hunting Knife in his hand was bloody.

When the Wolf looked up at the tree, Link Blinked, teleporting right on top of it and stabbing his knife as hard as he could, penetrating the skin and inducing a loud painful roar from the Creature.

Link was kicked by the Wolf's hind legs in the chest, leaving four cuts. The Wolf's Claws were strong enough to ignore the armor and injure him.

Link flew back with a painful expression on his face. But before the wolf could turn back on its legs, Link Blinked, appearing near its head, slashing his knife at the Wolf's neck.

As the knife was inches away, powerful wind erupted, pushing Link back a few feet, unable to injure the wolf.

"What was that?" He asked.

<Wind Wall, it's a skill. be careful>

"I can use Wind too, doggy" As he said so, Link slashed his knife in the air, a light transparent force left, the shape of a crescent moon. It was Wind Blade.

The wolf got back on its feet, bearing it's sharp teeth at Link, when suddenly a cut appeared on its leg. To Link's disappointment, the Wolf didn't even flinch, growling at him.

It charged, appearing in front of him in an instant.

Link's eyes were wide, seeing the sharp claws heading his way, he activated Counter Instinct.

As if his body was possessed, Link moved swiftly, using his weapon to deflect the Wolf's attacks, but it did not stop, slashing at Link like crazy.

Managing to successfully counter four swings, but failing to block the rest, Link's armor was tattered, blood everywhere.

<Link> Screamed Zero, worried.

<HP: 12/30>

"I'm ok," Link thought, reassuring Zero.

The Wolf lifted his claws higher in the air, planning to end it with this, seeing it's enemy all bloody and weak, it dropped its guard.

Link's eyes shone, vanishing when the attack was about to hit.

A weak growl came from the Wolf, whimpering. Blood came out of the corners of its mouth, falling to the side with a loud thud.

A knife stuck in its neck, blood kept flowing.

Link frowned, but brushed it off, he stood near it, covered in cuts and blood.

<That was a big risk Link>

"It worked did it not?" Link stuttered, grabbed the knife and lightly touched the Wolf, putting it in the Inventory, then walking unsteadily to a tree, sitting under it.

"Zero, do the usual, i'm exhausted." Link muttered under his breath.

As he was losing consciousness, he managed to read a message.

The sun was setting, the light of torches and lamps shone from the village. Rao was at the tavern, drinking with his friends.

"How is Link doing? I haven't seen him today" Said Eddy, taking another sip from his beer.

"Not sure, he always goes off somewhere" Rao answered.

"You don't have to worry, the kid is probably stronger than us," Said Sal, patting Rao's shoulder after seeing some worry on his face.

"Yeah, Link strong" Said Gail, giving Rao a thumbs up, even his finger was huge.

"My Samuel is strong too, he never stopped training since he got the invite" Said Ranold, puffing his chest.

Everyone knew that Samuel got the invite to the Academy thanks to Link, which is why he's been training so hard till now. Even though Link told him more than once that he wouldn't have gotten it if he didn't deserve it, Samuel still felt indebted to Link, and is working hard to not disappoint him.

"What the hell did you guys feed them?" Asked Robart jokingly.

The group laughed, ordering more beer.

"Don't cry, I'm not gonna hurt you" Peter sat on a chair, looking at Anny, Rena and Lisa huddled in a corner.

Lisa and Rena had tears in their eyes, trying their best not to cry. Anny on the other hand, didn't stop glaring at Peter.

"Come on now miss Anny, is this how you treat a guest?" Peter Laughed, playing with the dagger in his hand.

Anny didn't respond nor move.

"Why is he late? Where the f*ck is Link?" Peter asked, annoyance appearing on his face.

"I don't know," Said Anny, hoping that Link doesn't come, or he'll be killed too.

"How irresponsible of you" Peter continued "Your son has something of mine. If he gives it to me, i'll make your deaths swift and painless"

As Peter said that, the girls started crying.

"What is that?" Samuel stood in his house's backyard, practicing Mana Enhancement.

Using it on his senses, trying to master it and be able to use it for longer. He has been making great progress since then. rinse and repeat, that's what Link used to tell him.

As he was listening to people's footsteps, talking, birds, the tree leaves rustling in the wind.

He heard someone crying.

Leaving and trying to find where the sound is coming from, he managed to locate the direction it was coming from.

Link's home.
