We spent one more night at the cabin, one that was peaceful, thankfully. The four of us dined together and even toasted to our survival. But in all that time, neither Arthur nor Aramis even acknowledged my presence there. Not that I cared since it gave me ample time to study them.

Arthur was taciturn, a far cry from the vibrant man I knew, the one who behaved like a puppy when he discovered the apparently inexistent caves underneath the cabin. He gained some more color after having eaten, but his countenance was still drawn, as if he were afflicted by some sickness or depression.

I knew not how to explain it, but I was almost sure that the reason for his new appearance was connected to Aramis. Call it a sixth sense, if you will.
