Could It Get Any Worse?

After Mason had dropped Ava off he drove to his grandparents' home.

"We weren't expecting you," his grandmother said, hugging him as he stepped into the living room.

"Good evening Mamma," he greeted her.

"Good evening, how was work today?" His grandmother asked him, even though she already how she and her husband ruined his day for him.

"Work was fine," Mason said not giving out any form of emotion, there was no point in getting angry at her, the person he should be angry at was his grandfather.

"Is grandpa in his study?"

"Yes, I was just about to go ask him to come have dinner, you will be joining us for dinner yeah," his grandmother asked.

"Uhm, I really don't think so."

Just then Mason's grandfather walked into the living room, holding a glass of whiskey.

"And there he is," his grandmother said with a disapproving frown on her face when she saw the alcohol in his hand. She walked up to him and snatched the glass of whiskey from his hand.

"I see you have a death wish!" She said in annoyance. "The doctor has asked you to stop taking alcohol but you won't listen," she handed the glass to their housekeeper to dispose of its contents.

"Those doctors can't tell me how to live my life, besides, whiskey is good for the heart," her husband grumbled, not happy that she had taken his drink from him.

"And I would like to know who told you that lie. Where is it written that Whiskey is good for the heart?" His wife asked. Knowing he had no proof to back up his claims, he scoffed at her and went to sit down on one of the sofas in the living room.

His wife turned to look at Mason who was standing there watching the two of them, "you had better talk to your grandfather, he needs to take his health more seriously," she said to Mason before leaving the two of them.

"Mamma is right. Grandpa, you need to stop taking these things the doctor said you should stay away from," Mason said.

His grandfather scoffed, waving off his concern, "not you too, I'm perfectly okay," he gave Mason a serious look, "why are you here? I'm quite sure you didn't come up here just to lecture me on my health," he pointed to the sofa opposite him, "take a seat."

Mason unbuttoned his suit and sat down.

"How did find the women I sent to you? Did you find anyone that you like among them?" His grandfather asked him, a coy smile playing on his lips.

Mason took a deep breath trying to prevent himself from yelling at him. Was he really expecting him to pick any of those ladies he sent?

His grandfather raised an eyebrow at him waiting for his response.

Mason took another deep breath before answering. "First of all, none of those ladies are type."

His grandfather leaned back to have a better look at him, "so, you do have a type?" He asked sarcastically.

"Of course, I have a type," Mason answered, wondering why his grandfather would even ask him that.

"Oh is that so?" He leaned off the chair and came closer to the edge, "now, tell me, Mason, what is your type? Tell me and I will find her and have her brought to you."

"Grandpa I don't need you to help me look for a wife, I'm capable of doing that myself...."

"Then prove it, go get yourself a wife," his grandmother said as she walked back into the living room to join them.

"I will do that when I'm ready," Mason gritted.

His grandmother came and sat down beside her husband. Mason couldn't believe she was in on this with his grandfather, she was supposed to be on his side, or so he thought.

"And when will that be? Mason, do you ever plan on getting married? Are you planning to remain a bachelor for life?" His grandmother asked with so much seriousness.

"If you don't choose from those women that I sent to your office, I'm going to send more and will continue to do so, until you make a choice."

"All this can be avoided if you present us with a woman," his grandmother added.

Mason sighed, he should have known coming here was a mistake. He got up on his feet.

"If you continue to do that, then I would be forced to resign. Don't push me, grandpa."

"You dare do no such thing!" His grandfather shouted at him.

Believing he had passed his message, Mason bade his grandparents goodnight and left for his place.

"That boy is just too stubborn!" His grandfather groaned in anger.

"Don't worry, I will talk some sense into him," his wife assured him.

*******

When Mason got to his place, all he wanted to do was take a shower and head straight to bed, it's been a really long day and he wanted to forget about it.

When got to his door, he realized it was locked from the inside.

"Jason!" He groaned under his breath. His younger had a spare key to his apartment and even though Mason gave him the keys only for emergency purposes, Jason always lets himself in anytime he likes.

Just when he was about to call him on the phone to come open the door for him, the door swung open and a lady was standing there. She was putting on Mason's bathrobe and had one of his towels wrapped around her head.

"Who are you?" She asked Mason in a haughty tone, blocking the way with her body, preventing him from going in.

"Excuse me?" Mason blinked, surprised at her question. He was supposed to be the one asking her that. What was she doing in his house putting on his bathrobe?

"Oh, you must be Jason's cousin, the one squatting with him," she said eyeing him dryly.

"Excuse me? Who is squatting with who?" Mason was beginning to get pissed, who was this lady? And why was she calling him a squatter in his own house? And where the hell was Jason?

The lady gave him a look that said she thought he was dumb, "Jason told me you have a hard understanding, so I'm not surprised."

"What the fuck are you talking about?" Mason tried to go in but she covered the door with her body. "You would have to look for somewhere else to spend the night, Jason and I need some privacy."

Before Mason could get any word out, the lady jammed the door in his face. Could his day get any worse?
