The entire place has a stench smell as the monsters' bodies were already rotten. To be more specific, all of them had a body that was being eaten by the worms, aside from that, they can't see their eyes, only their sharp fangs, and claws.

He pinched his nose, trying to minimize the smell. "Be careful, Alexa. Those monsters are way more aggressive than the Dark Knight we fought." He warned her in a serious tone, then changed his sword into a spear.

Well, Kai had no idea if the monsters here had poison in their bodies, so it would be better if he fights them from a distance. For him, thrusting them with his spear was the easy thing to do since it was obvious that the monsters would attach them immediately.
