Chakra affinity and plans

(AN: All of those ideas, theories and hopes about affinities I have read through, and I got to say that some of them gave me a pause and made me rethink what I wanted. The outcome of those thoughts you will find out in the chapter~.

I have to say it though, I can now certainly see the appeal of making cliffhangers, buahahaha… Whoops, my sadistic urges slipped out, anyway, here's the chapter~)

Opening my eyes I saw a wrinkled paper. With confusion in my eyes I turned towards father.

Seeing it my father started explaining. "What you are holding in your hands is known as litmus paper. It's pretty expensive and difficult to acquire, considering the need for import alongside a complicated creation process. It's thanks to the subsidies we were able to acquire it~"

"This paper" mum took over after father went off the topic "allows to determine what nature your chakra has great affinity with."

"Nature affinity?" I asked after receiving answers that generated even more questions.

With a laugh my father answered. "There are five elemental chakra natures, and they are used in ninja techniques. If one has a fire affinity it will be easier for him to learn and execute ninjutsu (ninja technique) that uses that particular element. Five Great Shinobi Countries are named after them, and each one is stronger and weaker to one another. They are:

- Fire is strong against Wind but weak against Water.

- Wind is strong against Lightning but weak against Fire.

- Lightning is strong against Earth but weak against Wind.

- Earth is strong against Water but weak against Lightning.

- Water is strong against Fire but weak against Earth.

There are also combined nature transformations…" Foreseeing the outcome of the last phrase my mother slapped dad on the back of his head, but only after he slipped and piqued my curiosity.

"Combined nature transformations?" I obviously asked, not letting something so interesting slip my attention.

With a sigh and an exasperation my mother answered me while staring daggers at dad, who dryly chuckled. "If one combines different natures of chakra together it would result in new element, outside of the basic five ones. One could easily use them (subconsciously) only with kekkei genkai (bloodline limit), though they would need to awaken it through means unknown to us. Even if you had kekkei genkai litmus paper wouldn't be able to showcase it, as it's limited to five basic elements.

The second and more difficult way would be through very difficult and time consuming specialised training. On top of that without mastery over basic elements, that you want to mix together, you will never be able learn it. Even then, there are many that tried their entire lives and failed."

(AN: Okay, explanation time:

I believe that kekkei genkai are like a cheat code, inherent affinity in regards to element that allows easier use and familiarity to the owner of that bloodline. For example Uchiha's had one for basic element – fire (unlucky bro), Yuki's had for ice, etc..

Now, why do I think they need to be in some way awakened: That's my theory. I doubt that Hashirama from the get go was throwing his wood around (heh), Darui was using his storm release, etc. It makes more sense that those people needed some sort of trigger to awaken it.

Why would I make it that it is possible to learn a mixed element? Iwagakure had a literal explosion corps, you can't make a corps if you don't have numbers for it, and I doubt that Iwa somehow had huge quantities of shinobis with the same kekkei genkai, but rather that they created a training regimen towards that particular element, as such they were able to form a corps.

TLDR – kekkei genkai is a cheat code, that skips gruelling training required to use element outside of basic five.)

"Now, back to the litmus paper in your hand." Mother quickly moved on, not giving me time to create further questions. Depending on your affinities the paper might split and react differently depending on your chakra affinity, it can react in a following ways:

- Fire: the paper will ignite and turn to ash.

- Wind: the paper will split in two.

- ­Lightning: the paper will wrinkle.

- Earth: the paper will turn to dirt and crumble away.

- Water: the paper will become wet/damp."

"This means-" I started, before dad interjected. "Yes, you have affinity for lightning element. It allows to convert chakra into electricity. Unfortunately our village doesn't have many techniques that use lightning release, as such it will be harder for you to find and learn ninjutsu that is suitable for you."

'I wonder if it's similar with how aura was converted into electricity.' My thoughts went back to the fond memories when for the first time I was able to power my own appliance in previous world.

"Which elements are do you have affinity with?" I asked.

"Your father has affinity with earth, while mine is lightning." My mother answered.

'Yup, makes sense with their dynamic.'

"So, what happens now?" I asked with a lot excitement in my voice and stars in my eyes. "What sort of cool technique will you teach me?"

Up to now all I have been doing was reading books and being abused by desert climate whenever I got dragged outside by Pakura. But now, now there are new, exciting and awesome possibilities.

"You want to learn awesome techniques?" Mum asked with mirth in her voice.

"Yes!"

"Have you ran out of books to read?"

"Yup, finally there will be something to do!"

"And you will do anything to learn?" That question felt kinda sus, but it went by me in my state of excitement.

"Yes!"

"Good, then… we will teach you how to meditate." She said with a smirk.

"Huh?" My mind went blank.

"Intensive physical activities would be too much for your age…" She said with a mock thought. "so I will tell Pakura that you have more time to play with her…"

"HOLD ON, TIMEOUT!" I screamed with haste while signalling T letter with my hands. "That's not what I wanted!"

"Didn't you want to learn 'cool' techniques?" My dad asked catching onto mum's plot.

"Yes, but how is meditating and being dragged around going to teach me ninja technique?!" 'I can't imagine myself sitting still without using my brain, I'm gonna blow my brain out sooner!'

My mother just smiled that it went all according to keikaku. "You see honey, to use ninja technique one needs to use chakra, and at your age your reserves of it might be too little." I saw her speak in a mock pity.

"As you probably read in your books, chakra is a mix of physical energy and spiritual one. So we are going to increase your physical one by accompanying Paku, while after you will return dea- *cough* tired, you are gonna meditate. Later you will need to be taught on how to control chakra, but that is for another time."

With each of her next sentence I started to have more regrets.

"After all" I saw her sinister smile forming "You no longer have anything to read, and you said that you'd do anything to learn ninjutsu, so we're just fulfilling your requests. Oh, Paku is gonna be so happy that you can stay outdoors longer~"

Before I was even aware she made a trap for me, into which I willingly walked in. How frustrating.

'It's gonna be fine, our parents go on missions, they won't be here to supervise it. I will just tell Paku that I have a new book, she doesn't know I ran out of them week ago, it's gonna be fine.' I repeated it like a mantra.

"Oh, and to make sure that you aren't slacking, we will tell Sas-kun (sus) and Paku-chan to oversee you. We only want you to be happy~"

'F*CK' I could sense cold sweat forming despite evening being quite cool, and despair forming on my face.

"Mum, you know I love you, right? You don't have to do this." I tried pleading my case with puppy eyes.

"I know." She warmly smiled, before starting to grin with a cat like smile. "That's why I want to ensure you can accomplish your dream as soon as possible."

Mission failed lads, the war is lost.

'I won't be the one to suffer alone.' I decided as we went back to home without me realizing. 'How nice of Sasori to also unlock his chakra, I will have him join me.' That last thought lifted my spirit quite a bit.

'After all' I felt a dark grin forming on my face. 'good friends should help each other and be together, no matter the adversity, right?'

Okay, chapter is over. About the affinity part I think I only saw one of you guess my plans. That person said that lightning nature is overused (I didn't see it that prevalent in many fanfics though, maybe just different taste), but I'm planning to make my own applications of it, not random: Lightning chakra in hand = Chidori, wow MC, you are so impressive – nah, we will do something unique with it.

Honestly, this fanfic was written mainly in mind with puppets, I'm not going to give MC all elemental natures on start or anything like that, not to mention kekkei genkai.

The thing that I'm hesitating about is whether I want MC to have magnetic release. My opinion leans heavily towards the no magnetic release, as it honestly would have limited use with puppets. It would take away from the puppet focus. All I could think of with magnetic release would be magnetized puppets that are faster, and the ability to move weapons in the air, or affect their travelling path.

Also the tag says: weak to strong. I'm not a fan of protagonist having huge cheats that within 20 chapters make him Joinin level shinobi. I like slow and steady buildup~

I might have to slow down/delay with chapter release. I have to think through the entire plot and maybe stock up on some chapters for Patreon if I want to commit to writing. Never expected it to be so tiring.
