Chapter 83 Overconfidence

Stench of rotten flesh filled the air. Different corpse from monsters and adventurers a like litter the entire area. This is the usual scene inside the abandoned cathedral.

"Hey River? I thought we were not going inside the cathedral?" Phraan asked while covering his nose due to the stench coming from the corpse. He have a more sensitive nose compare to others, this is also the reason why he chose to be a Trapper than the more popular counterpart of its job, a Hunter.

River whose glancing from left to right to scan the area just nods at Phraan.

"Don't ignore me, River! Ryder help me talk sense into him!" Phraan exclaimed when he saw that River was ignoring his concern.

Ryder ignores the poor trapper as well not because he likes to but River already reach out to him earlier. Once River mentioned Leah, Ryder instantly turned obedient.

"Fuck! What's wrong with you guys. Do the both of you have a death wish?" Phraan shouted can't hold back his frustrations anymore.

"Calm down, Phraan. We are just gonna do some recon and avoid confrontation as much as possible. This is the reason why I brought you here. Your talent will come in handy in this place, especially you can smell the undead from a mile away due to their strong stench." River explained, trying to calm the elf trapper.

"Easier said than done. The entire place is filled with rotten stench, how am I suppose to tell which is which." Phraan complained.

"I'm sure you will once the time comes. The living undead had a more distinct smell than these rotten corpse scattered everywhere." River explained.

Phraan just sigh and resigns since it seems no matter what he say to these two they won't change their minds.

The three of them proceed to explore the abandoned cathedral. The cathedral's structure is more like any other common cathedral. The entire building is shaped like a cross with the tail end of it being the entrance.

After a few minutes of walking the three of them spotted someone familiar from afar battling an undead wave.

"Is that Anna and Valerie?" River said while pointing at the two girls whose fighting an undead wave with the dwarves.

Phraan shudder at the mention of Valerie's name. The time from where she punch him really hard at the cave where they fought Camilla flashes through his mind.

"What are they doing in this place and who are those dwarves with them?" Ryder asked.

"Beats me. We should inform them about Cleo and Leah." River said once he confirmed himself that the two girl fighting with the dwarves are indeed.

The three of them head towards the location of the two girls and the five dwarves that are accompanying them. Since they look like they really didn't need any help, once they reach a reasonable distance they stop and observe the party tackling the undead wave.

Anna and Thermaer are in the back lines casting spells from a far while also not forgetting to refresh the buffs every now and then while Valerie and the rest of the dwarves are in front acting as a vanguard, distracting the undead and in the process protecting their backlines.

River, Phraan and Ryder watch them easily dispose of the countless undead that keeps from coming. They watch in awe at the party that is in front of them. They knew it is not true but they can't help but think that this party that they are observing are together for years. The synergy and the aura that they exudes says its true.

After almost an hour of fighting countless undead waves. Valerie, Anna and the dwarves finally decided to take a break. This is where River, Phraan and Ryder decides to approach them.

"Hey Anna!" River called. He chose to approach Anna instead of Valerie, not only that he knew her more, because Anna is also the more approachable of the bunch.

"River? What are you guys doing here?" Anna asked once she turns around and saw that River and two other elves called to her.

River didn't answer right away since he is not sure how these two girls that are both in Cleo's party will react that Roark tasked them to investigate something behind his back. Though it was not coming with malicious intent he still felt what's their doing is somehow wrong.

"We're just here to do a recon for the Hallows Guild." River quickly made an excuse as to not make the girls suspicious of him.

"Is that so?" Anna questioned with a bit of doubt. Though she didn't really care what these three doing here in the first place.
