Chapter 82 Roark and River

The towering man return to the Hallows Guild basement while still pondering what he accidentally overheard from Alger and Cleo's conversation.

"Roark!" River called.

Roark didn't heard the call of the elf and just blankly stares at the distance.

"Roark! What are you doing? The trainees need some break, should I let them go for now?" River asked.

The second call from River breaks Roark from his reverie.

"Hey River do you know something about someone name Lance... Lance Ares or something." Roark asked.

"Who?" Roark asked.

"I accidentally eavesdropped a conversation between our Guild Master and Cleo. They mention someone named Lance. The moment the name was mention the atmosphere suddenly turn tense." Roark explained.

River rack his brains but can't figure out who is Lance Ares is.

"What was the name again?" River asked.

"I didn't heard it very well but it was something like Lance Ares, Lance Ar..." Roark said while scratching his bald head.

"Do you mean Lance Artin?" River asked for confirmation. This is the only name he can think of that might've caused what Roark witnessed earlier.

"Yes! Yes! That's it. Lance Artin. Do you know who that is?" Roark said excitedly.

River explained to Roark the reason why it was kind a taboo mentioning his name especially in front of an elf. Roark can't still grasp the reason why, he's still a lot of questions in his mind. With his mind at disarray he tasked River to go to abandoned cathedral and do some investigations.

"Are you sure about this Roark? What about the guild master?" River asked with a concerned tone.

"What about him?" Roark asked.

"You know, what if he finds out that we are snooping around?" River asked with the same concerned tone.

Both of them are just newly recruited by the guild and it was not even an official recruitment, it was only due to Cleo's past actions. So the concern of River was warranted.

"Don't worry about the guild master, I'll cover for you. Do you not want to repay what Cleo did to us?" Roark asked.

River can't retort anymore. Both of them felt grateful for the second chance that Cleo gave them. So in their own little ways they wanted to repay him for the opportunity that was given to them.

Roark then proceed to dismiss the trainees while double checking if they didn't skimp with their training when he was gone for a short while earlier.

On the other hand, River goes to the guild members that was also previously members of the Lion's Mouth to accompany him to the task that was given by Roark.

His companions for this task will be Phraan, the Trapper who previously helped Cleo sets up traps for Camilla and Ryder, the Cavalier that lost his arm from Leah when they first met. He was absent at the skirmish at Venundarr but he's fully recovered now, minus the missing arm.

The three of them head towards abandoned cathedral with one mission in mind. To find out more information about Lance Artin the Martyr.

"Hey River what are we gonna do at abandoned cathedral? Don't you think that dungeon is too high level for us?" Phraan asked while packing all of his traps and poisons.

"Don't worry were not going there to raid the dungeons." River reassured.

"What are we gonna do then?" Ryder asked while also packing his own stuff. "Remember I only have one arm and I don't want to die yet." he added.

"Stop with the questions. Trust me were just going there to find some information. Besides the guild master ordered it. Let's just follow the orders." River lied just to stop the two from asking any more questions.

Since the three of them are elves they had an easier travel compare to Cleo and his party. They just need to not slip up and mention their previous lives and their journey will be a bliss.

After of three days of non stop travelling. The three of them finally arrive at their destination. The first thing they notice are a bunch of campsite that was positioned around the abandoned cathedral.

This is the first time they venture at this part of Zirracania so they split up for now and ask questions around so they can have a better grasp on how things work in this dungeon.

The three of them are efficient at collecting information so it didn't take them that long to figure out what's the ins and outs of this place.
