Chapter 8: Stolen Moments
Samantha, although much to her complaint, had been walked all the way out of the cathedral and into the parking lot by Tobias where her old Honda Civic waited for her. She tilted her head as she gave the car a once-over, taking note of the rust that had begun to accumulate behind the dented edges of the side-view mirror and the way her tires flattened out a bit.
If it were anyone else, she might have been embarrassed at the sorry state of her car, but it was Tobias, and she had nothing to hide from him. She knew he had already seen her at her worst.
“You didn’t have to walk me all the way to the door, you know.” She reached for her keys in her back pocket and moved to jab them into the keyhole of the door. She looked at him as she leaned on the open car door, and he stared back at her in question.
“Just get home safely already, you pain,” he said. Then he asked her, “You’ll let me know if you need anything, won’t you?”
