After all that whining and grumbling, I was still forced to come with them to that stupid noble's house. I don't know the guy and I don't have anything to do with them so why make me come and be bored to death? And why make me a bodyguard?! I don't know how to fight with a sword, I have poor analytical skills, I always second guess my attack and get scared easily! How is that qualified to be a bodyguard? And does he really need one?! Isn't he OP enough to fight off those enemies?!
While I was still complaining a million things about this situation, Gou had already left his room and is now walking towards the wooden gates. Once we stepped out I see a wooden carriage with 2 big wheels and the entrance is big enough for 4 people to enter at the same time. The 'door' for that carriage is just a huge curtain with his crest of a mountain with clouds on its peak.
Wow! This is like the type of carriage like the anime the girl from hell and the human goddess rides! So cool! I was so excited that I forgot that we were in the presence of others that I tried to scramble to get in! This is really high! I thought it was just an exaggeration that the height of the carriage is up to the chest of the MC in the animes but it turns out it's higher than that! It's at my eye level and there are no stairs or ladder for me to use!
"What do you think you're doing?!" Chisa shouted at me while he picked me up by grabbing the collar of my kimono.
"Wha- Hey old man Chisa! Put me down! Don't be rude to a lady! I'm just trying to ride the carriage why are you so stingy?!" I shouted back.
"YOU, riding in Master's carriage?! You knock out that puny brains of yours from training huh?! My Lord AND I will ride the carriage and for a pathetic servant like you? You will walk while following the carriage!" He said with that irritating smirk on his face. Then he threw me to the ground like a piece of trash!
"What made you special so that you can ride the carriage and I can't?!" I glared at him while patting my clothes from dust and then throw a puppy eyes look on Gou indicating to let me ride the carriage as well.
"Quit dallying and let's move!" He ignored me and then jumped effortlessly towards the entrance of the carriage and then he went inside.
Chisa, on the other hand, gave me that disgusting happy face of his and then jumped as well and went inside the carriage. Ouch! That hurts, and here I thought that we are friends now. I know that in front of others we kept the Master-servant decorum but I thought he will be kind enough to let me ride the carriage until we reached the mansion of that stupid noble who invited him!
Unlike in the animes that I watched, the wooden wheels weren't covered with fire, it just started moving and flew up in the sky. They are so cruel! They know I can't fly and they have to ride a flying carriage! Well, it's a good thing that it's moving at a somewhat slow pace or I will be left behind!
While I was grumbling, I followed that stupid flying carriage while I float. I look up from time to time to check if they are still there. This is the first time that I'm out of the mansion and now I can see that it's a little bit far away from Herufaia City.
I just got to know the name of the city but I still don't know the name of the noble we will be visiting. We entered a bamboo forest and I looked up and I still can see the carriage so I guess its good that I'm not lost since there are times that I'm directionally challenged.
I don't get why there is a lot of bamboo forest? Is it a Japanese culture thing or does it have a significance in the Spirit World? While I was thinking, I never forget to look up to check if they are still there. I was enjoying the scenery when I subconsciously looked to my right into the bamboo trees.
I was just staring or more like spacing out when I saw something move among the trees! I stiffened at the thought that there are actual enemies ready to ambush us! I slowly looked away pretending I didn't see anything to avoid alarming them and walked at a normal pace.
Fuck! This shit always happens when someone stares at me! I will always subconsciously look at the direction of the person staring at me and they will be caught off guard when they see me staring straight at them!
My case when I was still alive is that my eyes are not that perfect 20/20 vision so I won't be able to recognize their faces let alone zeroed in on who is looking at me. But now, since I'm a ghost and thanks to that 2-week hellish training, my vision became clear and sharp and I completely saw them! They may be in camouflage but I still felt and saw them!
I looked up. Fuck! Where the freakin hell are they?! Did I lose them when I was preoccupied because of the enemies?! Shit! What am I supposed to do now?! I knew I should have just stayed back in the mansion! They didn't even tell me what to do if we encountered an enemy or how I'm supposed to warn them that there's an enemy sighted! Now I can feel them following me! Did they switched targets now?! But I'm just a nobody!
No, I need to calm down! I can use the skills and types of weapons that Gou taught me. Now, what can I use? Well, he taught me Kendo though I suck at it I can still use the sword to deflect their attacks! But the thing is I don't have any fucking Katana or any type of sword!
Archery? Well, let's scrap that since it will be a miracle if I will be able to hit anything let alone professional assassins! Then all that's left are my martial arts skills, which I have low analytical skills on when to attack and how to dodge! Well, if all else fails, my saving grace is my fast speed in running away! If even Gou was stunned the first time I tried to escape him then they should be as well!
With a plan in mind, I stayed alert and walked at a steady pace just following the straight path hoping I will be able to catch up to them. But I was getting anxious after walking for so long and didn't notice I was walking faster. I closed my eyes and concentrated where the enemies are located. They somehow felt that something was off and now they are making their move!
I can hear the rustling and shuffling of their feet as they made their attack! I quickly opened my eyes and ducked, narrowly dodging a swing of his shinobigatana! I steadied myself, moved my left foot forward pivoting my body upwards and gave an uppercut as hard as I could on his chest!
I heard a 'crack' sound from his ribcage breaking and he flew upwards towards the horizon! Having no time to admire my work, I jump to my left to avoid a kunai from piercing me! I heard a loud 'thunk' as the kunai pierced the bamboo tree instead. Finally! A weapon I can use! With that in thought, I tried to grab the kunai but I saw another object coming at me.
In a hurry, I bend backward and fell on my butt as I saw the arrow narrowly went past me! Shit! That was close! I quickly stood up and ran towards my left, that was the last direction I saw the carriage went to. I could feel them following me. I can't figure out how many are there since I'm concentrating on keeping myself alive!
I felt that one of them is catching up to me, I saw a fallen bamboo up ahead and an idea clicked in my head. When I felt that the enemy had caught up to me, I picked up the bamboo, then I suddenly stopped and swing my body hitting him as hard as I could!
Since he didn't have time to react so I was able to hit him directly at his face. The bamboo shattered from the impact and the assassin flew and hit a large bamboo tree and he spits up blood! I ran again and looked back to confirmed that he stopped moving. I really need to thank my high school friend, I remember what he said about multiple enemies chasing after our other friend and quoted the tactic from a very well known anime of a wandering samurai.
I felt another enemy coming near me and with nothing to use I guess I will have to use my fist? I maneuvered, kicking at the bamboo to give me a boost and went straight at him, I gave him a hook punch and he became a bit dizzy from the impact! I saw his head lowered a bit, with the perfect height, I did a dropkick on his head and I saw his skull cracked and bits of blood and some other things flew my way!
He stopped moving and I saw his breath left him. Like, literally, I saw this black smoky breath come out from his nostrils and flew towards the bamboo forest! I didn't have time to process everything when my attention went towards his body. I saw a kodachi on his belt and I took it from him along with the kunai and there are small bombs as well. Well, better be safe than sorry.
Sensing that there are still others following, I turned and ran again. I looked up and I still can't see that fucking carriage! I am fighting for my life and they are nowhere to be found to help me! Good thing I have watched a ton of animes and with that training from hell, I'm able to take down 3 enemies!
Getting tired of running away, I went inside the bamboo forest. I closed my eyes and imagine that I am air and invisible. I slowly opened my eyes and see the remaining enemies stopped running as if scanning the area, they are standing in front of me and they can't even see me!
Taking this opportunity, I checked first how many are remaining. Seeing that there are only three of them left, I planned my move. I need to be quick and efficient if I made a mistake I will alert them blowing my cover and I will be the one lying in a pool of blood!
I took a deep calming breath and started. I attacked the one in front of me by cutting his throat, then I dashed towards the guy at his left and plunge the kunai towards his neck and blood spurted like a fountain. The 3rd guy was a few steps away and was alerted when his friend screamed when I plunged the kunai at his neck!
I lost my focus and my camouflage dispersed and he saw me lounging an attack towards his heart so he was able to jump back and avoid it. He took out a kusarigama and threw it at me! Too late to dodge, the chain wrapped around my ankle and he pulled it making me fall on my back, scrambling to get up I felt the bombs that fell from my pocket.
Don't know which one will work so I threw the biggest one at him! I blocked my face with my arms to protect me from the impact and then suddenly I heard a loud 'boom!'. I felt the impact due to the close range and even rolled a few times because of it. I slowly get up and saw that the guy is in a few pieces, and I felt the pain of being hit by shattered bones.
I looked at my self and saw all the blood and some bits and pieces of the assassins stuck on me. I thought being a ghost I'm all spirit and nothing will hit me and stuff, but since coming and living in this world, I did and felt things like I was still a normal human, and now I'm even bleeding and it hurts like hell! If I survived this, I will have Gou and Chisa a piece of my mind! Suuure, they are handsome but they are good for nothings if they can't help me fight off enemies! With my body relaxing after defeating the enemies, I felt my strength draining, I collapsed face-first on the ground and lose consciousness.
