Hogwarts Castle

[Great Lake, September 1st, 1991]

{Cleanse.}

I whispered to myself, and with my command, my previous slimy and watery robe was now devoid of any germs, dirt, or slime, giving me a refreshed vibe.

"So Wednesday, huh? That's an unusual name." I muttered while dusting off my robe.

"Yeah, is it because you were born on Wednesday?" Ron questioned,

"I was born on Friday the 13th." The twin-tailed pale girl, whose name is Wednesday, replied while looking at Ron with a lifeless gaze. She turned to face me and continued,

"My name was picked up by my mother's favorite line in a nursery rhyme..." She uttered,

"Wednesday's child is full of woe..." Wednesday muttered while looking at the others with a dead gaze.

"That's cool... What about Monday's child? I was born on Monday, so...?" I asked with an expectant look.

"It's Monday's child is fair of face," Wednesday replied with a deadpan look.

"I see... I am indeed good-looking." I muttered while holding my chin and grinning with a boastful look. I was taken out of my stupor when Hagrid shouted ahead of us.

"Heads down!" yelled Hagrid

"Wicked....", "That's Hogwarts!" The students exclaimed, making me turn around to look at where they were looking. Standing before my view is a type of magnificence that I believe I can only feel for the first time.

"Are you sure this is a school?" I muttered agape, still staring in awe at the magnificent castle, while elbowing Ron, who was also staring in awe at the castle.

After getting down on the boat. We took quite a couple of flights of marbled stairs until we arrived in front of the ever-so-serious Professor McGonagall, adorned with her usual green robe and witch hat.

"Welcome to Hogwarts." She started as she continued,

"Now, in a few moments, you'll pass through these doors and join your classmates. But, before you can take your seats, you must be sorted into your houses." She added after a brief pause.

"They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff...Ravenclaw and Slytherin." She said,

After that, she said something about your house being like your family, about points or something, and that if you break a rule, you will lose some points...ugh...Oh! And lastly, about a house cup. In the middle of her speech, however, a chubby kid interrupted her by shouting.

"Trevor!" He shouted as he dashed towards the one he called Trevor from before, which is actually a frog. The others laughed at him, making the boy embarrassed as he looked up and saw Prof. McGonagall's stern stare.

"The Sorting Ceremony will begin momentarily." Professor McGonagall finished as she turned around and went inside the castle doors.

After Professor McGonagall left, Harry asked Ron about how exactly Hogwarts sorts us into houses, to which Ron replied by saying,

"Some sort of test, I think. Fred said it hurts a lot, but I think he was joking." Then he said something about fighting a troll. The moment I heard that, my heart blossomed into excitement, excited to fight a troll and see how I would fare against it, which I'm sure the girl beside me, Wednesday, noticed.

"It's true, then, what they're saying on the train. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts." To my left, a voice abruptly said. As I turned toward it, I saw a boy with platinum blond hair neatly combed, and a pale pointed sneering face. Once he uttered those words, the others around us began whispering among themselves.

"Harry Potter?", "Wha-" the others whispered,

"This is Crabbe and Goyle. And I'm Malfoy," He introduced as he took a step in front of Harry.

"Draco Malfoy." He continued when suddenly Ron snickered.

"Think my name's funny do ya? I've no need to ask yours." He said it with a mocking look as he looked Ron up and down.

"Red hair and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasley." He spoke with venom in his voice while looking down at Ron.

"We'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there." He finished as he raised his hand to handshake Harry.

"I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself, thanks," Harry replied coolly while looking at Draco.

While they're having this conversation, Wednesday and I are in the back, whispering amongst ourselves about the event that was happening before us...well it was mostly me who was whispering, but who cares about the details?

"Daym, did you see that, Wednesday? 'I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself, thanks.' That's like one of the scripts that the author gives to protagonists to let them win in an argument between the rich young master antagonists... are we in a novel...?" I pondered in thought as I looked up above the dark sky full of stars, seemingly having an epiphany. My thoughts were only interrupted when Professor McGonagall came to fetch us, adorned with her usual stern look.

"We're ready for you now. Follow me." She said to us as we followed her. We were suddenly jolted and surprised when a bunch of ghostly apparitions floated through the back wall. They seemed to be arguing. What looked like a fat little monk was saying,

"Forgive and forget, I say, we ought to give him a second chance —"

"My dear Friar, haven't we given Peeves all the chances he deserves? He gives us all a bad name and you know, he's not really even a ghost — I say, what are you all doing here?" A ghost wearing a ruff and tights had suddenly noticed us. Nobody answered.

"New students!" said the Fat Friar, smiling around at them.

"About to be Sorted, I suppose?"

A few people nodded mutely.

"Hope to see you in Hufflepuff!" said the Friar. "My old House, you know." The ghostly apparitions continued their floating as they passed through us.

Ignoring what just happened, we made our way to the big castle doors, which opened themselves, allowing us to pass through. When we entered, a large hall appeared in front of us.

The ceiling was the most attractive sight for me because it looks like a night sky with floating candles lit on top, which were both obviously done by magic. Situated in the hall are four big rectangular tables with older students on them, which I assumed to be the tables of the different houses that Professor McGonagall talked about.

Across the hall, where I assumed the teachers were situated, there is even a goblin there, though I don't feel the same way about him as I did about the other goblins, so I'm quite puzzled by it.

"It's not real, the ceiling. It's just bewitched to look like the night sky. I read about it in Hogwarts: A History." I suddenly heard the voice of Hermione, prompting me to look for the source of it. When I finally found her, I was surprised at whom she was speaking to because the last thing I knew was that she was beside me.

"No shit, Sherlock," Wednesday replied, not bothering to look at Hermione. Hermione, not expecting Wednesday's blunt reply, ran in front of others with a hurtful look in her eyes.

I walked toward Wednesday and said,

"That's something," I muttered, smiling sheepishly while shaking my head and looking at Hermione's back.

"If she's hurt by something like that, then she will never survive a whole week with me," Wednesday muttered with a deadpan look. We were minding our own business when suddenly a horrible song began.

"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,

But don't judge on what you see,

I'll eat myself if you can find

A smarter hat than me."

Noticing Wednesday's murderous, annoyed look that she's giving to the singing hat, I did something that was only based on my instinct. I covered her ears with my warm hands.

She was surprised at first by my actions and wanted to remove my hand from her ears, but when she realized that she couldn't hear the song anymore, she put down her hands, and her murderous looks diminished with only a slight touch of annoyance while looking at the singing hat.

"So put me on! Don't be afraid!

And don't get in a flap!

You're in safe hands (though I have none)

For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

After the song finished, Wednesday looked at me with her lifeless stare, which I avoided by looking to the side while whistling.

"I guess I owe you one. I thought I would have to kill on my first day at Hogwarts, allowing me to break my previous record." She muttered in her emotionless tone while looking directly into my eye.

"Yeah, no worries, hehe...wait...what?"

My questions and confusion, however, were not answered when Professor McGonagall stepped forward while holding a long roll of parchment.

At that instant, Professor McGonagall, who was holding a long parchment, opened it and uttered.

"When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted," she said.

"Abbott, Hannah!"

A pink-faced girl with blonde pigtails stumbled out of line, put on the hat, which fell right down over her eyes, and sat down. A moment's pause —

"HUFFLEPUFF!" shouted the hat. The table on the right cheered and clapped as Hannah went to sit down at the Hufflepuff table.

Professor McGonagall continued looking at the parchment, however, when a familiar name appeared in her eyes. A look of shock appeared on her face as she read the next name on the list.

"A-Addams, Wednesday..." She announced, causing the audience to gasp and the teacher and faculty to widen their eyes.

"Adda-", "Did she say Addams?", "It's not 'thee' Addams, isn't it?" The students, be they young or teens, whispered amongst themselves with terrified looks in their eyes.

I looked at them interestingly, wondering what was up, and turned to where Wednesday was supposed to be only to not find her there. I looked at the front and noticed she was already sitting on the stool with the hat over her head.

"How does she do that...?" I whispered to myself pondering how can she sneak from me considering that I'm quite sensitive in my surroundings.

After a few seconds of silence, the talking hat made his decision.

"Ahh...yes! Yes! You will indeed do exceptionally well there... You are no doubt a...!—"
