066, value-for-money salvage

A fist, as hard as steel, smashed violently into Jessica's cheek.

The overwhelming force threw her entire body onto the metal floor.

Her pale skin instantly turned purple and swollen with blood.

Even her cheek puffed up noticeably.

"Whoo—"

Zaire exhaled a breath as he coldly looked down at the girl, now sprawled on the floor, motionless. His voice cut through the air with icy indifference:

"Stand up! Keep going!"

Before he finished speaking, a pair of bloodshot eyes peered out from behind Jessica's disheveled black hair.

She said nothing, just focused on regulating her breathing, gritting her teeth as she forced herself up from the ground.

A few breaths later, Jessica barely managed to stand on her feet.

At the same time, she carefully assessed the sharp pain radiating from different parts of her body. Yet, between her tightly furrowed brows, a hint of relief and release surfaced.

"Ha!"

From deep within her throat, Jessica let out a long-suppressed roar of anger.

Her fists clenched once more as she charged at Zaire.

But after only a few days of basic combat training, the superpowered girl was no match for Zaire, a veteran of many battles.

He didn't even bother to strike back. With a simple sidestep and a firm push on her back, Jessica, who had rushed in recklessly, hurtled toward the metal floor like a human cannonball.

Thud!

The collision between her body and the floor echoed throughout the room.

Jessica let out a pained groan, lying there without the strength to rise.

She lay on the cold metal floor, gasping for breath, unwilling to move even a finger.

A few seconds later, she seemed to either fall unconscious or enter a deep, exhausted sleep.

At this moment, the iron giant David, who had been waiting nearby, stepped forward. Blue light flickered in its eye sockets.

After scanning the girl lying on the ground, it turned to Zaire and said:

"My lord, she has exhausted her stamina and fallen into a deep sleep... However, due to her extraordinary physical constitution, her injuries are gradually healing."

Zaire stretched his neck from side to side and sighed, replying to David:

"Let's end it for now... Even with superpowers, her combat skills are abysmal. Still, that stubborn persistence of hers is commendable. By the way, how's the construction of the medical bay? She might need it."

"I completed it overnight; it's functional," David responded.

"Good, let her rest."

As Zaire spoke, he walked away from the training ground, having only just warmed up.

The towering two-meter-tall Iron Giant David tilted its metal head, blue light flickering as it looked down at the slumbering human girl, mumbling:

"Human, you should feel honored..."

Then, David stepped forward, easily lifting the sleeping Jessica with one metal arm and heading toward the medical bay.

In the base's lounge, Zaire stood relaxed under the shower.

As the warm water cascaded down, he began humming an unfamiliar tune.

Then, as if recalling something, a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.

"Heh heh..."

Although Jessica had come to him out of desperation, Zaire now had a capable assistant, laying the foundation for building his future force.

Her will was also stronger than he had anticipated.

Her painful past had made her more accepting of Zaire's harsh methods...

The only flaw—or perhaps the folly of youth—was that Jessica seemed unphased by the presence of the David. Rather than being shocked by its existence, she easily adapted to the new worldview.

In fact, after a brief conversation, she even suggested that David help her with her credit card debt...

A few minutes later, Zaire, finished with his shower, changed into his clothes. He sat cross-legged on the metal bed, opening the simulator's interface.

Zaire scanned the salvage page again, frowning slightly.

The flight vehicle he urgently needed still hadn't appeared.

[Salvage Results: Ancient Gauss Blaster (1)]

Annotation: Produced by the Necrons, the scariest tech you've ever seen. And you, human, are strangely favored by them.

[Salvage Results: Gravity Chute (1)]

Annotation: Elysians' standard equipment; our mission—descend from the skies.

[Salvage Results: Kasrkin Storm Trooper Carapace Armor (1 set)]

Annotation: From Cadia, soldier, it will serve you...until death.

[Salvage Results: Dawn of War Flash Grenades (10)]

Annotation: Blood Ravens' special—who says a flash grenade can't kill? Legendary hero Alexian disagrees.

Zaire's furrowed brows relaxed slightly as he eyed the Gauss Blaster and Storm Trooper armor.

This haul was well worth it!

Not only had he obtained a set of Kasrkin armor, but he'd also salvaged the terrifying Necron weapon.

Yet, with offensive equipment in abundance, Zaire found himself leaning more towards acquiring functional gear, like the Imperium's Valkyrie transport vehicle.

"Seems I've run out of luck this time. Relying solely on salvaging is out of the question," Zaire blinked a few times, shutting the simulator.

Straightening his back, his breathing gradually calmed, and Zaire opened the simulator again, offering his usual prayer to the Emperor.

He was ready for the next simulation.
