Esme Cuckoos

The machine connecting them hinted at merging their abilities, triggering a sense of crisis in Max, a seasoned battlefield veteran. This intuition warned him of an imminent threat from behind. Without hesitation, Max swiftly opened a large arch directly behind him.

As the arch materialized, wood and glass scattered on the ground behind Max levitated and rushed into the arch, disappearing.

Whoosh whoosh!

The items vanished into the arch, averting the unseen danger.

Esme, turning her head in confusion, observed the arch behind her, a mix of bewilderment and fear evident on her face.

Had it not been for Max's swift response, the outcome might have been dire.

Ignoring Esme's reaction, Max entered the different space through the door and disappeared. Reacting promptly, Esme, instead of questioning why Max didn't take her along, hurried towards the two-headed Hound.

With proximity, she could manipulate their thoughts.

However, a few steps into her approach, Esme noticed the two-headed Hound raising its hand, aiming at her. She stopped instinctively.

In the next moment, behind the two-headed Hound, Max silently appeared with his sai.

The two-headed Hound collapsed, dead.

Esme let out a breath and approached. "Look at their memories," Max instructed, removing the connecting device between the two.

The device, facilitating the fusion of their abilities, resembled the combined attacks of Lauren and Andy. It could potentially aid gene integration, a valuable asset for Viper's research. After dismantling the device, Max turned to Esme.

Esme explained, "The backpacker earlier reported the news. You arrived faster than them. You also know where these two came from, and my family might be held there."

Max nodded, taking out a three-sided thorn and swiftly relieving the two captives.

As for their genes? Though seemingly promising, Max deemed them non-essential, especially given the current circumstances.

Having dealt with the two-headed Hound, Max casually remarked to Esme, "Do you know? I suddenly remembered something."

"What is it?" Esme inquired casually.

"I remember who you are!" Max smiled, then swiftly acted.

Before Esme could react, darkness enveloped her, and she succumbed to unconsciousness.

Looking at the fallen Esme, Max spoke softly.

"Esme."

"Trinity."

"Esme Cuckoo."

In the TV series, Esme infiltrated the Mutant underground organization to rescue two others.

Perhaps the chaos with the Hounds had diverted Max's attention, as he initially didn't recall this series of events. If not for the appearance of the two-headed Hound in the church, the memory might not have surfaced.

The Cuckoo sisters maintain a presence in the comics. They are Emma Frost's clones or her daughters. Originally five in number, only three survived. Gifted with spiritual abilities, diamond forms, and honeycomb thinking, they can share thoughts and communicate remotely. Together, their Telepathy Abilities are heightened, forming a powerful super brain. At one point, they even wielded the Phoenix Force, transforming into Phoenix.

However, it's evident that Esme lacks White Queen's diamond-form ability. Max wonders if this Esme has any connection to White Queen, especially considering White Queen's demise.

During the crossover, the TV series only covered Esme using the Mutant underground organization to rescue two people. Her allegiance was unclear. If her goal is solely to save people, it's acceptable. However, if there's an ulterior motive, Max needs to be cautious.

After careful consideration, Max decided to bring Esme with him, regardless of her intentions. She shares the common purpose of saving people and seeking retaliation against the Hounds. Moreover, her Telepathy Ability is an asset, as it can bypass any defenses.

Holding the two-headed Hound device and carrying Esme, Max entered his dimensional space and took flight.

Rather than heading to the Mutant underground base, Max opted to take Esme home. Bringing her there directly could attract unwanted attention.

In his laboratory, Max placed Esme on the bed and instructed Viper, "Administer something to keep her sedated."

After briefing Viper, Max stepped outside to call Lorna. He informed her that Blink and Lauren had successfully rescued the people and suggested they take some time to rest before returning.

Returning to the laboratory, Max found Viper awaiting him.

"Who is she?" Viper inquired.

"Esme, the telepath. I encountered her in a Mutant gathering place before. I'm not sure about her intentions at the moment, so it's better to be safe," Max explained while eyeing the venomous snake.

Viper nodded, well aware of the implications of spiritual Abilities.

"Do you want to extract her genes?" Viper inquired.

"Keep that for later."

If the soul's door hadn't been fully unlocked, Max would have urgently needed Esme's genes. However, it wasn't a top priority now. As long as one could resist Mind Ability, it sufficed. At the moment, the Mind Ability held little significance. In contrast, other aspects of Ability were more practical.

Max informed Yukio to prepare Esme, and Viper went on to extract Esme's genes. This process wasn't aesthetically pleasing, so Max returned after almost half an hour.

In the laboratory.

Esme was awake, hands and feet cuffed to the bed. However, she appeared groggy and slightly pale.
