Ch-4 The Phoenix Awakens

(A/N: Hello fellow readers. This is the first chapter of this week. The previous promised chapter Making the Monster Part 3 was written by my friend who unfortunately is in hospital and the chapter is in his laptop so it will be uploaded tomorrow. This chapter focuses on how Jean awakens her powers and I know its not best but in future we will try to make it better. Again, sorry for delay.)

Little Jean Grey.

That is what her father called her affectionately.

Jean Grey is the daughter of Professor John Grey of the History department at Brad College and Elaine Grey.

She was the second daughter of the Greys.

Jean was born with the powers of telepathy and telekinesis. But poor little Jean didn't know that that she had these powers

From a very young age of 4 years, Jean was having flashes and dreams about the thoughts of people around her.

She could hear the thoughts of her parents and her sisters.

'Man I need a break from this' Jean hearing thoughts of her father John.

Jean was very distraught because of these noises in her head.

She was not able to control these powers and was very much in distress due to these voices in her head.

Due to this Jean was a very distant child, she did not have any friends and she was also very distant from her family.

Due to her abilities to read mind of people around her she had a difficulty in making family and was a distant child

"Our Jean has been very quiet child. I am worried about her," said Elaine to John in a worried tone.

'I wish I knew what was troubling Jean' Jean heard John's thoughts as he was passing by her room.

Her only friend was Annie Richardson, who knew about her powers and still remained friends with her.

She was happy with her, she and Annie had always been together like blood related sisters.

As years pass on, an incident took place which changed Jean, it awoke something within her, a power which she would come to love and hate.

One day Jean and Annie were playing just outside of Jean's house.

Annie was quite happy that day as this was the first time in 2-3 weeks that they had time to hang out together.

Annie was very excited and was practically hopping around.

"Come on, Jean play with me" Annie enthusiastically called Jean

"I am coming Annie" Jean replied with excitement.

Jean was about to go play with Annie when suddenly she heard Annie's scream.

Jean ran down the front yard of the house and suddenly she screamed "ANNIE!"

Jean saw that Annie was hit by a car that coming at a very high speed. She saw Annie on the ground. Around her was a huge amount of blood that Annie had lost due to the accident.

Jean ran towards Annie. She took Annie in her arms.

She could feel the thoughts of Annie. Jean started screaming to Annie "Annie Annie wake up. Keep your eyes open I will call my parents, we will take you to the hospital Annie wake up" said Jean with a stream of tears down her eyes.

At that moment, Jean for the first time properly heard the thoughts of Annie who was still in her arms with only a little bit of consciousness left in her.

'I don't want to die Jean. Please save me' Jean heard Annie's thoughts as if she was speaking to her.

Jean tried to talk to her but no words came out of her mouth as she was too shocked to see her best friend on the verge of death and she was also shocked to see that she could hear her voice and can fully read her mind.

'Help me Jean' she heard Annie's voice again in her head which took her out of her trance.

"MOM! DAD! " Jean screamed to call her parents.

"Don't worry Annie nothing will happen to you" Jean said to Annie in a trembling voice.

Annie's heartbeat and breathing were slowing down and just like that the only friend of Jean Grey died in her arms.

As Jean realized that Annie was gone her psionic power was activated and suddenly she felt as her mind was connected to Annie's.

As both Annie and Jean's minds were linked together they both went to the land of the dead.

Darkness

Pitch dark darkness.

Jean and Annie opened their eyes and saw a place filled with absolute darkness.

The smell there was rotten and it was the smell of death.

They saw many souls there who had died.

'Where am I?' Jean heard the voice of a soul

'This cannot be. I have a lot to do right now. I have to get back.' she heard the voice of another soul.

The whole surrounding around them was pitch black from the floor to the ceiling till the eyes went.

"Jean, where are we? How did we get here?" asked Annie in a trembling scared voice.

"I have no idea," Jean replied confused and scared.

"Do you remember what we doing before we got here ?" Annie asked Jean.

"I remember you came to my house to play and you were just outside when I heard ..." Jean suddenly stops and remembers the horrific incident that happened moments earlier.

"What? You heard what Jean? " Annie asked the frightened Jean.

"Oh my God, I remember. You got into a horrible accident Annie" Jean answered with tears in her eye.

Suddenly a path opened before them.

"Maybe we should follow down this path. It may lead us to our home" said Jean

"I think we should do something else. It feels scary," said Annie cautiously

Just as they were talking about this a grim figurine approached them.

They both saw that the figure was a lady. She was none other than Lady Death.

Lady Death had pale skin and a stone-cold look in her black eyes.

Her hair was pitch black reaching her back.

"Don't worry my children there is nothing to be scared of," said Lady Death addressing the two little scared girls Annie and Jean.

"Where are we?" both Jean and Annie asked in a frightened voice.

"I will tell you everything once you come with me," said Death with a little spine-chilling grin on her face.

And just like that, she gestured her hand towards them, and both Jean and Annie were pulled towards her.

"What is happening?" asked Annie to Death.

"Oh nothing my child I am just taking you with me to answer your questions," said Death still bringing them both towards her.

When they reached her Death took Annie to her side "Jean what is happening" screamed Annie as she went away from Jean and suddenly Annie disappeared.

"Annie! Where did Annie go? What did you do to her?" asked Jean in a scared and angry voice.

"Same thing I am about to do to you," said Death and held her hand.

But just as she touched Jean, Death felt the presence of a very powerful entity inside Jean. That entity was none other than the Phoenix, Death's sister.

"Ah Sister! So I see you have chosen this little girl as your target," said Death with a wicked smile on her face.

Saying that Death removed her hand from Jean and said "Don't worry my child we will meet again & I will take care of your friend"

"No no bring back Annie to me, please" Jean cried out to Death.

Suddenly Lady Death started going farther and farther from Jean and there was again darkness around Jean.

"ANNIE" Jean screamed and suddenly Jean was back on the road with the body of Annie still in her hands and her parents around her "Jean my child what happened to Annie," asked Jean's father with a worried tone.

Jean came to her senses and with tears rolling down her eyes she hugged her father and said "I could not save her. I could not save Annie" and she started sobbing uncontrollably.

"This was the tragedy that revealed the powers of Jean Grey and how I came to know about her," said Professor Charles Xavier
