Chapter 3

Think of Captain America, another hero. He sacrificed himself stopping a nuclear bomb from detonating in New York saving millions of lives which in turn caused him to slumber for within the ocean for more than fifty years leaving behind his girlfriend, his best friend, everyone he has ever known, only to wake up all alone in the current world."

"And were people ever truly grateful to him for what he did?" asked Adam rhetorically "No. Sure they call him a hero and they fan over him but when you really think about it, he has never received anything other than worthless and pointless praise. The same thing they gave you after your big battle with Ultron. Calling your brother a hero as if that makes up for the fact that he is dead."

"They didn't even give him a house! Or some liquidity to live his own life as from what you have told me. All the people in charge have done is simply give him an apartment to live in which belongs to them which to me sounds as a means to control him as should he refuse to continue doing as they want, they could easily rescind their apartment and other issued finances making him homeless and giving him a hard life should they choose to do so. I believe they could do the same thing to you given the fact that everything you have down to your clothes have been supplied to you by them.

This is just but one of the dark and numerous aspects that come with being a hero which most people don't think about or simply overlook. At least when you were working with Ultron, there was a clear outline oof goal, benefits and risks but being an Avenger has no such thing. From what I understand about being an Avenger, the government or people in charge of affairs give you guys orders and expect you to complete them without nothing in return. The reward simply being that it serves the 'greater good' and 'humanity'.

It's nonsense in my opinion and I for one don't plan to stick around to the point where it comes to a choice between you sacrificing me for the 'greater good' or letting down humanity. This is a choice that, from what I've deduced, happens to heroes on a daily basis and I for one do not plan to have any part in it. This is why I've chosen to break things off with you. It's nothing to do with you personally but rather if you are going to now be playing hero, I'd rather detangle myself from you before you eventually sacrifice me for the greater good in some world ending event or something else." Explained Adam as he gazed at the silent pondering Wanda.

"I have numerous other reasons as to why I do not wish to entangle with heroes but it's getting late and I don't want to spend the next few hours explaining them to you so..." Adam finished by pointing at his head to which Wanda understood. He wanted her to read his thoughts which indeed for telepaths like her was a much faster means of communication when compared to talking. With hesitation and fear of Adam's other thoughts, which could be observed by her trembling hands, she slowly raised her hands and placed them on his forehead which allowed her to easily access his mind and thoughts where she quickly focused on his thoughts on the Avengers and heroes in general. Seconds passed as Wanda's eyes glowed red, her mind constantly flitting from one thought process to another until finally five minutes later, she released her hands and gazed solemnly, silently and seriously at Adam with immense pain in her eyes. While five minutes had passed by in the outside world, she had in reality read thousands of Adam's thoughts on the matter and only now did she finally understand why he was breaking things off with her as well as his real stance to their relationship. She had of course not read the rest of his memories as that would be a breach of privacy which she promised she would never do to those she loved. It was why she never read the memories of her brother nor those of her teammates after she joined them. Still, it didn't mean she couldn't sense her teammates emotions towards her nor those of Adam.

"It would seem that you understand why I must now break up with you." Said Adam to which Wanda simply remained silent, her gaze pained and heartbroken staring ahead blankly, her thoughts known to no one but herself. Seeing her state, Adam simply placed a crisp 40 dollar bill on the table, said his final goodbye to Wanda who remained motionless and then walked out of the restaurant. Just as he exited the restaurant he was met by the sight of multiple police officers who had surrounded the restaurant, their arms raised and aimed forward. Upon seeing someone exit the restaurant they immediately shouted with their guns pointed at Adam ordering him to stand still and slowly raise his hands. Adam, sighing softly, complied with the police officers doing as they instructed. Immediately one of the officers slowly approached him after which he proceeded to search him for any weapons. Upon finding nothing, he nodded back towards the rest of the police officers who lowered their arms towards him.

"Apologies for the search sir but could you please come back with us to the police station. You are a witness to what could possibly be a mutant attack in the restaurant and hence we would like to ask you some questions." Said the officer. Just as Adam was about to agree, a a large four wheeled black tinted car arrived on the scene. From the car emerged two figures. One was a blond handsome man dressed in a blue striped suit and carrying a shield on his back while the other was a beautiful woman with red hair dressed in a dark tight fitting suit. Adam, who watched the daily news easily recognized them as Captain America and Black Widow.
