Chapter 2

And to top off her already massive guilt towards the massive number of deaths she had indirectly played a part in during her fight against Ultron, she had also been constantly hounded by the public news and social media which even now constantly voiced the outrage of the citizens of the various countries of the world due to the massive deaths and destruction they had caused in their battle which had turned an already poor nation 'Sokovia' into a lawless state filled with terrorists and no government.

The state of Sokovia due to their battle had caused so much fear and terror to grow within the minds of the various leaders of the world, who feared what happened in Sokovia happening in their own countries that they had convened multiple UN meeting over the course of the week to discuss what would happen to the Avengers which in turn affected her as well considering she was now part of the group. If the Avengers were shut down then there was a chance that the government and miliary forces of various countries would come after her considering her incredible power which she could sense that even her fellow Avenger members feared.

The very thought of being captured and experimented on by the various governments of the world filled her with a massive amount of dread. Massive enough to keep her awake at night. That plus her own guilt for the deaths of the people in Sokovia, the constant stares of hate and fear whenever she walks in the streets with her real face, her horrible past of being experimented on by Baron von Strucker and her brother's death had driven on the brink of insanity. The only good thing in her life….the only thing that now kept her grounded..kept her sane…..was the fact that she had a relationship with Adam Riley. And now, even that was ending. The very fact that she hadn't gone berserk with her psychic powers was something worth acknowledging. Though the increasing number of cracks on everything around them showed that her state was deteriorating rapidly and if not controlled would soon surpass her sanity limits.

The rest of the people in the restaurant, having noticed the weird cracks everywhere had already evacuated quickly in a panic with some of them having called the police for help in dealing with the anomaly that had occurred within the restaurant. However none of that mattered to Wanda or Adam at the moment as they were currently in the middle of a serious conversation. As for why the didn't recognize Wanda at the start, well it was because Wanda had manipulated their minds and inserted illusions into them making her appear as someone else. It was how she was able to roam the streets without attracting attention or criticism from everyone around her. Of course Adam knew all about this as Wanda had already told him about her powers at some point in their relationship hence he could clearly see who she was as she hadn't manipulated his mind….yet.

"No." replied Adam as he calmly glanced around him at the rapidly deteriorating environment. His answer brought puzzlement to Wanda as she became even more confused.

"Then why?" If not for the death and destruction, which was what frightened people, then why? 

"It's because of your current status." Answered Adam as he pointed at red jacket or rather at the logo present on her left jacket side. The logo of the Avengers. Wanda looked down at her blessed chest only to see the logo of the Avengers present on her left jacket side. It took her a second to understand what Adam meant.

"The Avengers….You're breaking up with me because of me becoming an Avenger" said Wanda as she glanced at Adam who nodded back. This answer however puzzled Wanda even more.

"But why would you break up with me because of me becoming an Avenger? Do you have a grudge against the Avengers?" asked Wanda.

"No. I don't."

"Then…. Why?"

Adam, at this point, decided to stop beating around the bush as it was starting to get late and he had to get home.

"It's not the Avengers in particular that I have a problem with. Rather it's their philosophy that troubles me."

"….Their philosophy?"

"Yes! Their philosophy" said Adam as he stared straight into her eyes "They call themselves Avengers but they are essentially heroes at heart and do you know what the characteristics of hero is. They are beings who believe their action to be good even when it isn't and that combined with their great power and their desire to be adored by the common people and loved by the leaders and government of the world by offering their services for free makes them extremely dangerous. They tend to be brainwashed individuals who would do anything for the 'greater good' even if it meant sacrificing those they love. As long as it benefits 'humanity' and the 'greater good' then nothing else matters to these heroes. Especially if they are ordered by the government. As long as it serves the greater good."

"You of all people should understand what I mean given that your brother was sacrificed for the 'greater good'." Said Adam as he gazed at Wanda.

Wanda was shocked upon hearing Adam's reason for breaking up with her. She had indeed met with Adam a few days ago after the battle where she had given him an account of how the battle went as well as how even though they had managed to defeat Ultron, his brother had lost his life in the process, saving his Hawkeye and a little boy.

"I mean think about it. When you were being a villain alongside Ultron, you never experienced any loss be it of property or of loved ones. And yet the moment you and your brother started to play hero alongside the Avengers, your brother ends up dying. I call bullshit! This is just one example of the effect the terrifying self-sacrificing nature of a hero has on themselves as well as their surroundings.
