Chapter 3

6 months after the coma.

As the sun slowly rose, one of its rays came through the window, illuminating the floor and then the whole room with its presence...

Minutes passed and that single ray of sunlight moved to the right of the room...

Finally, the ray reached the mouth of a sleeping teenager with several machines connected to it, the sun continued to climb into the sky and finally, the ray landed on the eyes of the much too skinny teenager...

A wonderful thing happened, the teenager with a sickly skin tone almost instantly regained color...

---

« My eyes!

I see light!

It's so... restful and warm...

I can feel it! My strength is quickly returning! »

Opening my eyes to the world for the first time in so long, a feeling of happiness had come over me...

"I'm back!" I shouted in my mind.

It took me a while to calm down my messy emotions, however once done, I pressed the emergency button.

---

as usual, Martha had come to the hospital in the morning, just before her afternoon work...

but as she walked towards her son's room, she saw a great agitation in that very same direction, she was immediately alarmed and ran towards the room dropping the flowers she was carrying with her...

All sorts of negative premonitions were intermingling in her mind.

« What if... ». Martha stopped her thoughts as she stood in front of the room that was indeed the one causing the ruckus...

''No.'' her eyes immediately turned red.

''Excuse me! Can't you stay here, Madam?'' A nurse spoke to her from behind.

Martha turned and said, "I'm the mother of the child inside... what's going on?" she was on the verge of collapse...

''You are... the mother, well then come in, you won't believe your eyes! It's a miracle!'' The nurse spoke again but it was with a big smile that she did so.

Martha Kent rushed in at once! A miracle?! It could only be good news, right?

Once in the room, she saw her once sickly little boy sitting on the bed from behind...

''But since I'm telling you I'm perfectly fine... I can even feel my legs!'' Her son's voice was a little different but she recognized him just the same anyway!

Martha fell to her knees like a rag doll...

''Mrs. Kent!'' The doctor shouted as he recognized the woman who had entered, though a little too late...

-----

''Dad! You're here!'' I screamed the moment I saw my father enter the room.

''OH... Connor!'' Jonathan Kent, my father, ran to my side.

I immediately saw the changes in my father, he was wearing a cross around his neck, I quickly understood that everyone's life had continued after my coma...

the world would not stop turning for me that's clear...

''Where is your mother, son?" my father asked nervously.

I pointed to the bed opposite mine. ''Don't worry, she just passed out, you know the shock of it all...'' My father sighed with relief...

''Dad... about my legs, I can feel them!'' I almost shouted with joy, even though I already knew that...

"Wh... What?! But how?'' My father asked very surprisedly at the news, grabbing his cross in his hands he kissed it...

"Miracle?" I replied.

''Thank God..." he whispered. ''Dad... about MJ?" I asked hopefully.

It was the look of conflict my father had that I understood...

"She didn't come... did she?" my voice broke a little. ''sorry son...'' Pa looked really sorry for me...

''No, it's nothing.'' I feigned indifference but it hurt like hell...

A comfortable silence ensued, then I started talking again. ''By the way, I need to talk to both of you, when we get home...''

My father nodded with visible confusion.

-----

It was only a week later that I moved into my new house, well flat...

We now lived in Manhattan and from what I understood, they had moved here to be closer to the hospital...

Living off their savings, which were soon to run out...

They didn't want to tell me about it but I understood it rather quickly...

Whether it was the way my father and mother looked, both of whom looked exhausted...

I blamed myself for that.

I guess they had to work one job after another...

-

The three of us were in the living room of the flat, my mother kept looking at me with a proud smile, and my father patted me on the back every chance he got, I think it was their way of seeing that they weren't dreaming...

By the way, I was walking!

With a pair of crutches, even if I didn't really need them, but it was to keep up appearances...

"Well, son? What did you want to talk about?'' My father asked, because to him and my mother I was unconscious for months, or so they both thought.

I immediately smiled, and dropped my crutches, my mother immediately screamed in fear that I would hurt myself. ''Be careful!''

I raised my hands in her direction to tell her not to worry...

''First of all, thank you! Thank you for everything you've done for me... I've never told you this before but, and I think you both deserve better than me as a son, I love you...'' I said with tears in my eyes...

My parents were speechless at the time, then my mother came and hugged me, and my father...

"Wait, that's not all...'' I spoke with emotion. ''drop it, it's normal we're your parents you know? We'd do anything for you.''

"I know, thanks for that too... I said. But, I have to tell you the truth...'' The words got stuck in my throat...

"truth? What are you talking about honey?" my mother frowned in confusion.

"Okay, Dad... how long have you had that mint gum in your pocket? I'd say a week and it's been in the washing machine, hence the smell of lye..." I said without directly telling them.

''What are you talking about, what g...'' my father asked but he stopped immediately as he took out a chewing gum that had lost all its color from his back pocket...

my mother threatened to faint again. ''But how?" she managed to say between breaths.

''by the way, mom, Stop smoking, I know it's distressing, but it's bad for you,'' I said with an embarrassed smile...

My father gave her a disapproving and surprised look, and that's when she fainted...

"oops." that's all I said...

---

''so, let me get this straight... you have powers?!'' My mother shouted, as my father said incomprehensible things about a prophet, and sending from the heavens...

"Stop! I am not a prophet or a godsend, nothing like that! Don't get any ideas, okay?" I didn't want to create unnecessary misunderstanding so I cut off their wild imaginations.

---

An hour later we were still there...

My parents had difficulty understanding the situation, but I couldn't lie to them.

There were no mutants here so having powers without genetic experience was quite a thing for them...

''Did you keep my drawings? And the hard drive?" I asked leaving the subject of powers for today.

''Of course, darling, what do you take me for? They're in your new office filed the way you organized them... and the hard drive is stored in the boxes under your bed... ''

I immediately looked with my x-ray vision, inspected each box and indeed it was there...

sighing to myself I got up and headed for the bedroom. ''I'm going to bed, good night, I love you very much.''

Thank you for reading.

So I've started a second story that won't take priority over this one, but I'll still write it from time to time, first chapter tomorrow.

Thanks :)
