Chapter 20

Back to Max and the two killers, Max lets them stay in the house till Ana heals. Lisa was very excited, and Ana was happy since the pain in her leg was dealt with.

Max calls Trask and informs him that he acquired the company and asked Trask to look for an office that would suit the size of his laboratory.

With a few other instructions, he hangs up. Lisa, who was waiting for him to hang up, says, "So, what about the agent who is monitoring the house?"

Max was surprised that she knew someone was keeping an eye on him, even though she came to the house just a few minutes ago and was with Ana.

Max says, "I can scare her away for a while, but I can't completely stop the surveillance on me. The S.H.I.E.L.D. considers me a big threat that constantly needs to be monitored."

Lisa says, "Now I am really curious as to how strong you are."

Max says, "I can't demonstrate my powers without destroying things. I will show you when the time comes."

Lisa then says to Ana, "But really, Natasha really got lucky. She is working for the S.H.I.E.L.D. while we have to hide from them."

Ana says, "Well, she did help blow up that bastard."

Max was surprised to hear the name Natasha. He wanted to confirm if they were talking about the Balck Widow.

Max asks, "Who is this, Natasha?"

Lisa replies, "Remember how I told you that both Ana and I went to the same boarding school? Well,  she was also in that school. I don't want to get to the details about it now because I don't want to remember it."

Ana's mood was also dejected when Lisa finished speaking. Max said in his head, 'The Red Room, huh? These two are also from the red room. That would explain how they were able to hide from S.H.I.E.L.D. until now. Also, Black Widow is the one monitoring me; talk about surprises. Wait...wait...'

Max then says, "Wait...wait...wait... Lisa, how do you know the person keeping an eye on me? Ana, Did you guys take a detour?"

Ana shook her head. Max continues, "That also makes me wonder: how do you know the address to this house?"

Lisa, with a nervous smile, looks to Ana, hoping she could help her, but Ana also doesn't know a way to help her. Lisa finally sighs and says, "Well, I was keeping an eye on you even after you moved."

Max asks, "So you were stalking me?"

Lisa says, "Stalking is the wrong word. More like looking after a friend. That's the term I would use."

Max asks, "Since when?"

Lisa replies, "From the day you launched that weird light into the sky, I almost went blind when I got there that day."

Max then thinks about the situation, and weirdly, he is creeped out by someone keeping an eye on him. It was weird because he was already being monitored by someone else. The only difference is that he knew he was monitored by the agent, but he didn't sense Lisa.

Max says, "It's really creepy."

Lisa says, "I am sorry."

Max forgave her because he also blamed himself for not sensing her when she came to the villa. He knew that he was careless when he was with Carol, and that might be dangerous if someone decided to take advantage of a similar situation.

Max says, "Don't do that again. Now that I have to go to sleep, you should get the mattress from the broken bed and use it. I will sleep on the couch."

Ana says, "It is weird that in this huge villa, there is only one bed, even though there are four bedrooms."

Max says, "The previous owner was stingy and didn't want to spend more money on this villa since he wouldn't be living here mostly. That's the reason he sold the house for a very low price. He didn't want to spend more money on this and wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible."

They both then go to the bedroom, and Lisa gets the bed ready for them to sleep while Max goes and sleeps on the couch.

Meanwhile, Natasha, who was monitoring Max, sees Ana and Lisa in the house. She immediately recognizes them since they were the only two people who managed to escape the hell hole. 

She takes a few pictures with a camera that has huge lenses fixed to help zoom in at far distances. Natasha says, "These should be helpful."

She then uploads these photos to Max's file in the S.H.I.E.L.D. database. Natasha also adds the details of Lisa and Ana to the database. Natasha is a spy, and she was doing what she was told, even if she was ratting out people from the red room who have gone through the same hell she went through.

Natasha, in the movies, might look like the person who does the right thing since she goes against orders a few times, but she is the same person who bombed a kid to kill a man.

After she was done uploading Lisa and Ana's details, their past, and their connection with Max, she went back to monitoring Max.

At the same time, on the helicarrier, a man is sitting in his office with a beer bottle in his hand and is glaring at a file, a file about a certain man who was strong enough to take on a whole alien fleet. A man who managed to even negotiate with the major world leaders. A man who also indirectly helped Fury become the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. since Fury was close to this man.

The file was obviously Max's file, and the man glaring at it is Rick, the previous director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the current deputy director of S.H.I.E.L.D. 

He slams his fist on the table and says, "It is all because of you. If you weren't there, Fury, who was running behind me, wouldn't be the one to give orders. Fury is just a fool who just happened to be in the right place at the right time. If it were me, I would even be promoted in Hydra."

That's when he sees that the file has been modified. Out of curiosity, he sees the updated information and learns about Lisa and Ana.

A smile creeps over his face, and he looks at the photo of Max in the file. He says, "Max, with this, your life is about to turn around, and I will get back my rightful position as the director."

He then immediately calls his assistant and asks him to contact five field officers. After a few minutes, they all come on a video call with Rick, and Rick explains to them what they have to do the next day.

He then ends the call and says to himself, "Max, have your final peaceful sleep."

The next day, Max wakes up to a knock on the door, and Max mutters, "Who the hell is it?"

He wondered since there isn't anyone in his life who would come to visit him. He slowly gets up and drags himself to the front door, yawning and rubbing his eyes.

He opens the door and looks at the five people standing before him in uniform. Max looks at them and asks, "What do you want?" in a drowsy tone.

An officer steps forward and says, "You are being arrested for attempting murder on the owner of Royal Casino yesterday. It would be best if you cooperated by calling your accomplices and surrendering."

By this time, Max was completely awake, and Ana and Lisa also woke up. They slowly go near the door, hiding from the officers, and they have a gun ready to engage when they get a chance.

Max glares at the officers and says, "I don't know who sent you fools, but I was in a similar situation before, and this is triggering some memories. I would suggest you leave if you love yourselves and don't want your family to lose someone."

Max remembered the time he was falsely accused in his previous life, and this pissed him off.

The officers could feel all the heads over their bodies and could hear the sparks around Max. Ana and Lisa were also in a similar state since they were also close to the door.

The officers immediately draw their guns and point them towards Max. The officer in the front says, "Max, cooperate with us or we will have to take you by force."

Lisa and Ana immediately get to the door since the situation has escalated and point their guns at the officers. Lisa says to Max, "Run away, Max. We got you into this situation. Leave us and run."

Max noted their actions and said to Lisa, "Lisa, they are not after you. They are after me. I appreciate your sentiments. Now step back and help Ana. I am going to teach people to think before they mess with me."

Max then walks forward, and the officer in front immediately shoots at Max, but Max doesn't stop; there is no blood. The bullets just pass through his body and drop behind him. 

The officers step behind them, seeing Max walk towards them. The other officers also freak out and start firing at Max. Lisa and Ana hide because they understood the situation and knew that Max was invincible, and now they could become an obstacle if they stuck around.

The officers move back, and when they are far from the door, Max extends his hand, points his palm at them, and shoots out a lightning bolt from his palms.

It hits the first officer, and he is immediately on the ground with his skin completely burned. The officers behind him didn't get to escape, and they met the same fate.

There was one officer remaining, and he looked at the dead bodies before him and was shivering in fear. His legs give up, and he falls down. The officer says, "Please don't kill me. I am not even a police officer. I can even tell you who sent me here," but Max doesn't let him finish.

He shoots out a lightning bolt, and the last officer meets the same fate as the others. Max says to his body, "I don't need you to tell me. They came here yesterday night, and only Natasha would know about them."

At the same time, on the helicarrier, Rick walks to Fury's cabin and throws a file on his table. Fury looks at the file and then at Rick, waiting for an explanation.

Rick says, "It might be too difficult for you to read with one eye; let me help you. You remember the man who disrespected S.H.I.E.L.D. and is now roaming around with enough power to destroy the earth? Well,  I got a way to keep him in control."

Fury immediately gets up and catches his collar. He says to Rick, "What the hell did you do?"

Rick frees himself and fixes his collar. He then says, "He is now living with two killers, killers from the red room. I sent people to arrest him, and now, if he gets arrested, we can learn how his powers work to keep him in check. If, with his arrogance, he goes against the agents, he becomes a fugitive and will be chased around. Everyone knows that being a fugitive on the run is the most pathetic life. He will surrender himself to us eventually."

Fury immediately punches Rick in the face and shouts, "Did you sell your brain recently, or were you always such a retard?"

Fury then turns to Maria beside him and says, "Immediately contact the agents this fool sent. We have to stop them."

Maria gets to work, and Rick, who just got punched, asks, "I know you were on his side, so I came here after they reported that they arrived at Max's house."

Maria then says to Fury, "No one is answering."

Fury turns to Rick in anger and says, "You fool, if he were a hero like Captain America, he wouldn't ask for money to help us, and if he were bad, he wouldn't even agree to help us. I've seen him and know that he was just fighting those aliens for the girl. There was no motivation for him to fight. These are the kinds of people who are better left alone. Do you know what he did to those aliens who captured his girlfriend? Go look at the site of the battle; there is a huge crater. He is not someone we can have as an enemy."

Rick was about to say something, but the voice from the speakers in the helicarrier stopped him. "S.H.I.E.L.D., prepare for your deaths. Start praying to your gods."
