Chapter 47: Trouble on the Horizon

Josie lay on her bed, the sounds of classical music playing gently in the background as she skimmed through a book on Ancient Egyptian history. To the then 16 year old, the book never ceased to amaze her, though that was her fourth time checking it out from the library. Her inner history buff was constantly amazed by the innovation and ideals of ancient cultures, as well as their magical practices.

‘That one is totally Mom’s fault.’ She smiled to herself. ‘Whatever helps me control my power, I guess.’

Josie hummed along to the arpeggio being played from her speakers. Suddenly, there was a shift in the air. There was a feeling of tension that floated around her and quickly soured the peaceful mood. She quietly pulled herself off of her bed and tiptoed over to her door, pressing her ear against it. She could hear her parents' voices, but just barely. However, the tones of their voices were easy to pick up on.
