The back story

"I'm sorry sir, she's not going to make it." The doctor says as he watches an elf fall to his knees and holds the ill hand of a woman. "It's alright my love," she says as she gestures for a girl that looks to be about two years old. "Come here, child." the small girl walks over and looks at her mother. "Yes, mama?" she says sheepishly. "Mama's going to go to sleep for a very long time…" she pauses as a tear falls down her face "Take this necklace, you'll find a need in it as you get older." The girl takes the necklace and asks, "How long will you be asleep mama?" The elf gets up, walks over, and lays his hand on the young girl's shoulder. "A long time dear, but don't worry I'll take care of you as best I can." The girl looks at him. "Ok, papa! The elf looks back at his bedridden wife as she takes her final breath. "Time for you two to go." The doctor says as he ushers them out of the room. "Papa, can we go out to the garden?" The girl asks wanting to not be bored. He chuckles "Which one?" he asks "The one with the pretty butterflies!" she said excitedly. "Very well," he replies, picking her up and leaving.
