A new beginning

I ran through the house shouting for my father. It's my birthday and I'm turning five! Eventually, I find him sulking and drinking what looked like to be his spicy juice. "Dad!" He doesn't reply. "Dad?" He stands and walks past me. "I can't do this anymore." he stands there looking at his feet. "Where are you going?" he turns around "Away for a very long time…I trust you can take care of yourself?" I look down at my feet "I mean I guess bu-" he cuts me off. "Than this is goodbye." I look at him trying not to cry. "Bye papa." he leaves and I turn around to find something to do to prevent myself from crying. For years I walk every inch of the house hoping to find something new, but it was always the same until one day I notice something off about the books I had been looking at for seventeen years. I pull on the odd book and the wall torch comes out to reveal a compartment with a leaver. I flip the switch and the bookshelf opens up to a small staircase. I walk down finding a small room filled with potions and books. I look around for a while until I hear a voice. "Are you Hailey?" I look around "What the…yes? Where are you?" I asked still looking around "I ask the questions…Are you eighteen yet? I stand there a bit confused "Not yet, but I will be in four days." There's a long pause. "Close enough." A map and a written piece of paper fly onto the table along with a bag full of things on the chair. I pick up the note and read. I hope you're doing well my beautiful daughter, I hid this place from your father because he didn't know what I truly was, you will when you are eighteen. Take the map and find the long-lost sky islands, they were once my home, if you tell the people who live there whose daughter you are they will welcome you with open arms. ~ Farewell, love mom. I stare at the note for a few minutes before grabbing the bag, grabbed the map, some potions, gold that I had leftover from my father, folded the note, and stuck them into the bag. I leave the room and look around for my dagger, eventually finding it under my bed, I stick it in my bag and leave to find my closest friend. I eventually find her basking in the sun. "Charlotte!" she flys over "Yes, Hailey?" she lands in front of me. "I'm going on an adventure! You wanna come with?" she tilts her head. "Ya, but don't you turn eighteen in four days, you aren't going to stay home for that?" She flys up onto my shoulder. "Nah, I'd rather find my mother's land this week instead of waiting for forever." She shakes her head in disappointment as I start to walk into town, about halfway to town we stopped because Charlotte was a bit tired. "So how exactly did you find this map and note?" I tell about the room, how my mother wasn't an elf and how I'll learn when I'm eighteen. "Woah, your not a full elf?!?" She jumps up in surprise "I guess not." There was a bit of awkward silence "We should head into town and find an inn before it gets dark." she flys onto my shoulder. "That's a good idea, but I'm going to ride on your shoulder." I sigh "Fine." We head into town found a cheap inn and entered. "Welcome to Floyds' Inn and Tavern, how may I help you?" I walk up to the counter where the voice came from to find a cute fairy boy waiting for my reply. "Um, I need a room for me and my friend." he looks up at Charlotte "I'm sorry but the boss has a thing with drakes…but I don't." he winks "How long will you be staying?" he turns around to grab a key "Just tonight." he hands me the key. "That's a shame that you can't stay longer." I chuckle and pay the amount plus some for him letting my friend in. "Thank you…" I pause hoping for him to tell me his name "Mathew, and you?" he passes the key to me "Hailey." he smiles. "That's a beautiful name." I smile and blush a bit "Thank you, Mathew." I walk to my room, unlock it, and unpack my things. Charlotte hops onto the bed leaving room for me. After I'm done unpacking I lay down and drift off to sleep.
