MELANIE MALACHITE POV

She dodged the tree thrown at her and landed on top of another tree.

Her breathing was heavy and it was as she had feared, she was running low on stamina and Jaune was still above 50%.

Despite the fact that her aura was currently at 98%, she wasn't sure if she'll be able to win this fight.

Not with how her abdomen was starting to hurt from all the movements and excess breathing.

She shouldn't have eaten so much before the start of the fight but Jaune's cooking was so good.

And now she was wondering if Jaune knew that this would happen and cooked for them in order to stuff her with food for that very reason.

She didn't have any more time to think as Jaune swung another tree at her.

And wasn't that annoying.

Having to dodge not only the tree trunk but also all of its jagged branches.

She tried to move away from him only for him to throw the tree at her.

She moved to dodge the tree but then there was an explosion and the tree shattered into shrapnel. Jaune had used his handgun to shatter the tree with explosive dust. And as good as she was, she wasn't able to dodge all of them.

The shrapnel pinged off her aura and she saw it go down by 2%.

Not much in hindsight but it showed that Jaune was learning.

He always did. In each and every fight.

She landed on another tree and then frowned as she saw a few Beowolves looking up at her from below.

Huh… fighting out in the wild was not the safest thing to do but Jaune didn't want to destroy the forest in his Pocket Dimension.

And that's exactly what happened when a 6th tier goes all out.

Though with the progress Jaune had shown, he was now probably at 6th tier as well. A weak one but one nonetheless so this was technically a fight between two 6th tier fighters.

One of which liked to throw around trees as a means of attack.

Crude yet effective.

She climbed down the tree and made quick work of the Beowolves on the ground before they even realized what was happening.

And then Jaune was upon her once again.

She waited till the last moment as he swung his sword at her before she held out a palm and concentrated.

She was still not a master at using her semblance and using it took a bit of concentration from her.

This was why she was not able to use it against Pyrrha, Neo, or her sister.

She was only able to use it against Jaune before of how slow he was.

Oh, he was faster, much faster than other 5th tiers, but to her, he was still slow.

She felt the energy from his strike flow inside her as it was stored.

Then she carefully brought it to her other hand and expelled it through the finger.

And… Jaune managed to block this one with his shield through the attack still sent him flying.

Let it not be said that Jaune wasn't a fast learner.

She took a moment to catch her breath and waited as he managed to stop her fall and then started running toward her.

Before he could reach her, she took out his handgun and started taking potshots at her.

She cursed him in her mind and started dodging, her moves a little sloppy from the loss of stamina and the slight pain in her abdomen.

He must've noticed her lack of stamina and would do his best to make sure that she isn't able to rest for even a second.

She ducked under another attack but then her speed slowed as the gravity suddenly became heavier.

Gravity Dust.

Darts!

She won't be able to dodge the next attack so she used her sword to block it.

Bad idea that.

She was no Jaune, capable of defending against an Ursa attack without any difficulty. Her defenses sucked. And they were using Military-grade dust in this fight.

The fire dust round collided with her sword and exploded on her face.

The explosion seared her eyes and for a moment, all she could see was white, and then she hit a tree with her back and then another and another.

After breaking through five trees, she finally landed on the ground tumbled around like a drunk sailor on a boat before she finally came to a stop.

She blinked and saw some of her vision return to her. And with that, she noticed the other dust round flying toward her.

Shit! She wasn't going to block this one no matter what.

She moved to dodge it but it landed near where she was laying down a moment ago and exploded with Ice crystals.

One of her legs was caught within one of those crystals and froze her in midair.

Oh, fuck!

She didn't even see the next dust round but when she woke up, she saw a worried-looking Jaune pouring his aura on her while her sister held her head.

She blinked a few times. Her head hurt. Did she hit something hard?

"What happened?" She asked groggily.

"Dust happened." Her sister replied with a sigh "A storm of high-grade military dust. Your aura broke Melanie. You lost this fight."

She looked around and saw that she was currently lying in a large crater and the surrounding forest was devastated. Oh, and Pyrrha and Neo were currently fighting a horde of Beowolf.

"Well… this sucks." She groused "I thought that I would eventually lose all my aura and then you'll defeat me with your greater strength and speed." She gave Jaune a stink eye but couldn't hide the pride she was feeling for him "Shows what I know."

And shows how fast Jaune was improving.

She felt the headache and grogginess wash away as Jaune finally filled her Aura Reserves to the maximum and got up from the ground.

Her stomach still hurt a bit from the long fight but she was otherwise as good as new.

"You alright now Melanie?" Jaune asked.

She pulled him by his collars and locked him in a passionate kiss.

They both closed their eyes and enjoyed the moment before they finally separated.

"That was for officially reaching the 6th tier rank." She said with a smile and Jaune gave a smile back before he took her by the waist and pulled her in for a kiss.

It was good to be alive.

"Melanie, can you not do this while we're in the middle of a Grimm-infested forest!" Miltia asked and she blew a raspberry at her sister.

Then she looked at the large horde of Grimm that Pyrrha and Neo were fighting.

"Might as well go and help them."

"Good idea," Jaune said as they went and joined the fight.
