HOW DO YOU LOSE A GOD ARC!?
Haruomi has met many women over the last 3 years but compared to this petite mechanic before him, few could compare. He maintained a distance of at least 2½ft. out of fear.
Sporting her goggles, the woman marched down the hallway, making every engineer stay out of her path. A few even hiding behind the rows of terminals.
Haru was grateful for every moment her back was to him.
"I can't believe this, I swear Haru I'm gonna have you transferred to a dark hole, you'll never get out of!" the girl yelled, lifting her goggles to reveal grey eyes, complimenting her silver hair.
"Hey did anyone happen to pass by a stray god-arc on their way to work this morning!?" she said, gaining the attention of every staff member on the floor.
Every engineer in a blue cap and vest shook their heads no. Under her watch, they knew better, but she had to ask anyway.
"No, Ms.Kusunoki." one young engineer said.
"Not anywhere, Licca." another young man said, fearfully.
With an exhausting sigh, she continued to the next room with Haru.
"If it had to be anywhere, where would it would it be?" Licca said, quietly.
Haru made sure to maintain his distance, while he tried to think of an excuse to ease her frustration. When face-to-face with gray eyes and a green jumpsuit & white tank-top, Haru nearly screamed.
"That-means-YOU-HARU!" Licca said, gritting her teeth, looking overwhelming to the taller god-eater.
Haruomi glanced away from her direction as he tried to find the words to appease her. They had made their way into the observation deck to one of the training rooms. As his eyes shifted he saw a ray of hope to answer his predicament.
Nearby were two engineers with their mouths held agape. But not at Licca.
Before anyone could do anything an Ogretail crashed against the screen and startled them all.
Licca brushed past the 2 engineers and saw below, the source.
Sano Inmate 1103, stood with his palm outstretched. 5 metallic Ogretails stood around him.
One jumped towards him opening its jaw.
Sano jumped higher, rearing back his arm as he hovered overhead. He soared down and smashed its head to the pavement.
Then he continued to do so, 4 more times and kicked the Ogretail into another sending them off to the side.
When another came to attack him Sano grabbed it by the tail and spun it over his head. With 3 big windups, he flung the Ogretail into one of the remaining 2 and it bounced off both.
As he turned away Sano walked to the back of the room. He wrung out both arms, before lifting his god-arc out the floor and tossed it in the air.
With one last stretch, he caught it with a spin and held it backhanded.
Haru had thought he had caught glimpse of it before, but now that he had confirmed it, he wasted no time "redeeming" himself.
"There it is! That inmate must've stolen it! I never took my eyes off it. He clearly skulked in the night and took it when my back was turned!" Haru shouted.
"You just said you never took your eyes off it." Licca said leering at the man.
Haru shrunk away and tried to think of what he could do to avert her gaze.
That being said Licca didn't look at him for more than 2 seconds before returning to the demonstration below.
Sano tapped his blade on the ground, like a cane used to call the dogs to their owner. The Ogretails had stood back up and circled him ready to pounce.
As they all struck, Sano jumped and tilted back. He spun and his claymore whizzed around from one Ogretail to the other, slicing through them all.
Sano broke the spin landing on his feet. The sword in its momentum continued spinning and it headed back to its owner. With nary an effort, he caught it in a reverse grip and walked off to the side.
The engineers were left speechless. Licca's eyes were ready to break through the glass, but to her misfortune, she could only see his prison shirt.
"Who is that down there!? Is he a transfer!?" Licca asked, turning to the engineers.
"That's the inmate who crashed in 2 days ago. He's dangerous so don't get near him." Haru warned, keeping his eyes on the criminal.
"Inmate? I think we got an email about that." Licca said, nonchalantly.
"Licca I'm serious you saw at you just saw, I advise you, and every other lady in the vicinity to steer clear of that animal." Haru commanded, almost looking serious.
THAT-WAS-AWESOME!
The two looked through the glass to find the source of the sudden scream and Haruomi went slackjawed.
Kanon was applauding next to the inmate happily.
"Is that what we're doing first!? When do I get to do that!? Who's heard of punching an Ogretail!? No god-eater fights with their bare hands! Actually, wait-he's not here, but we have this one guy you've gotta meet!" Kanon stammered.
"Kane." Sano said, sternly.
Kanon paused in confusion.
"I was just doing some exercise, you're not worried about that. It's your turn. HEY! UP THERE!" Sano turned his head to the observation deck, as he shouted.
The engineers immediately gave their attention to the inmate.
"BRING OUT ABOUT 5 MORE!" he commanded.
With Licca in the room, they looked back forth between her and the inmate desperate not to displease both.
Licca nodded for them to proceed. With a sigh of relief, the blue-clad crew pressed some buttons and switches on the terminals.
A hatch opened below and out came more metallic Ogretails.
"Ok, get in a good warm-up, you're up." Sano said, getting some distance from Kanon.
"Uh...Right!" Kanon said confidently, bringing up her blast-cannon god-arc.
The metallic Ogretails slowly approached the two, anticipating their moves. Their intelligence was that of a training dummy, but they would act and react as programmed.
Sano waited to see how Kanon would act.
As the Ogretails grew closer, he saw no change in her position.
The creatures were in no hurry and neither was Kanon. Sano simply thought.
But as a full minute passed, nothing changed in her stance.
Unwilling to wait to minute 2 Sano spoke barely 2ft from Kanon.
"What are you doing?" he asked, almost sounding aggravated.
Kanon nervously clung to her gun and loosened her grip, with a reluctant sigh.
"Whenever I hear "You're up", it's usually just me staying back and wait to fire. But Captain Haru never tells me when to fire. Or anyone." Kanon said with a frown.
"...Really.(I'm gonna have to kill that guy later.)" Sano said, unsure of what to think of her response.
He recalled her saying something about her reputation of misfire or some event of mishaps. This however would not do. He put his god-arc deep into the floor and locked his gaze with Kanons'.
"Whatever you do during missions forget it, you wanted my help, and that means breaking routine. If you don't, then I can't do anything. More importantly, you won't help yourself." the inmate said.
Kanon froze, noting the Ogretails were still approaching. She cringed but somehow took aim at the pseudo aragami.
"O-o-okay." Kanon said, taking a small breath.
"They're just dummy targets, blast them to oblivion, so we can move on." Sano commanded in a rather cold manner.
It was at that moment, despite the stern command, it lit a fire in Kanon and she found herself wanton destruction.
A fireball consumed an Ogretail, and it fell backward.
It did not get to reach the ground before more flame, turned its metallic body into liquid metal. One by one the other Ogretails met the same fate, never getting to so much as blink before being reduced to dust and ash.
The fire, however, would not stop...
Kanon was constantly unloading every bomb bullet, keeping explosions ringing in the training room to shake the observation deck.
Her maniacal laughter echoed in the chamber perhaps even louder than the bullets.
Sano stared at her candor, but not with the fear the others were in on the observation deck. Haru could not keep his composure at seeing his subordinate with the inmate. Licca and the other engineers were trying to shut down the oracle refill system.
As Sano watched Kanon release blast after blast, he inspected her method of attack and muscle control.
"(We got a long way to go with this one...)" he thought, with an exhausting sigh.
