Much to his surprise, although he figured he probably shouldn’t have been, Miss Gina was standing on the porch. When he got there, she wrapped him in a tight embrace, telling him, “You faced him down. I’m proud of you.”
“So am I,” Shaun said, joining them.
“I was scared shitless, at first, but then…” Ryan touched Shaun’s arm. “You were there. You gave me the courage I needed.”
“I’m a cop. It’s what I do,” Shaun replied, ducking his head.
“No. You’re a good man. You’d have done it if you were…a street cleaner.”
Shaun laughed. “Where did that come from?”
“I have no clue, but it’s true, you would have.”
“I hope so.”
“Okay, boys, enough with the back-patting,” Miss Gina said. “Ryan, are you planning on staying here?”
