Chapter 69
“Easy, Ryan. Breathe,” Shaun replied as they came to a stop in front of the boarding house.
Stiffening his spine, and his resolve, Ryan nodded. He got out of the car, looking over the roof to see Merrick getting out of his car.
Shaun came around to stand beside Ryan, putting his hand on Ryan’s shoulder. Merrick scowled momentarily as he strode across the street. Then his expression changed. He seemed relieved, saying, “Thank God you’re all right. You scared the hell out of me, love, when you took off like that. I thought…I was so afraid you meant it when you said you were going to kill yourself. I’ve been doing everything possible to find you. I even hired a detective.”
“Kill myself?” Ryan replied scathingly. “I think it’s the other way around. You did your best to kill me.”
