Chapter 4- Setting out

The recent reason why people have given me back to the orphanage was again because of Scathach.

————Flashback————

A new family had adopted Skye and she had hope of it lasting this time. She had gotten used to the training so she wasn't that disconcerted when she woke up and would take a bath every morning to cover up the sweat.

All of that changed when she looked out the window and saw two ugly women with with winged arms and bird legs perched on the telephone lines. They looked like the had been crossbred with the dodo birds.

She quickly looked away avoiding eye contact and show that she might be able to see them for what they are. So far she has seen some strange people, phenomenon and even some monsters but those are all ignored by the general populace.

Scathach deduced the reason being the ever present magical energy which tricked the senses of the mortals of which Skye had an innate control over.

So she didn't want to alert them, a few days later she noticed other monster like Cyclops nearing her general location.

Skye quickly understood that somehow they were teaching her or someone else but most likely her.

When Scathach found this she was delighted and said that they are finally going to begin the real training.

She threw Skye into the forest of shadow monsters, without any weapons, where Skye lasted a whole 15 minutes before she was torn apart.

Ever since that night Skye woke up screaming and crying in pain. The nice family that adopted her were not that well off and even though they tried they were not able to cope with Skye so back to the orphanage she went.

The orphanage too was troubled by Skye and neither the children or Matron could sleep some nights because of the screams.

Slowly she learnt to not scream out in pain even when she was torn apart but she always woke up in cold sweat with her bedsheets drenched.

Scathach is a demon. A complete demon and when she find someone that interests her and has potential and wants to learn from her she will take that person physically, mentally and spiritually to the very limit till that limit breaks and then she starts over.

This was not training anymore but torture and Skye felt like she must be going insane because she started to love the feeling of pushing her limits to grow stronger and to fight in a battle where either she died or the opponent did.

She loved the rush it gave but she also felt it was muted since she knew she wouldn't really die and neither would the shadow monsters.

So when Skye decided to start fighting off the monsters in the real world Scathach stopped summoning her every time she slept.

Skye was finally able to get the mental rest she very desperately needed.

Skye had a very satisfying sleep and finally after years she woke up very peacefully. She is surprised how calm and relaxed her mind had become after a week of peaceful sleep.

I the past week she had been gathering all essentials for her departure from the orphanage.

They were nice people and she really didn't want to burden them more. Last night Scathach had summoned her but not to train it was to remind her that she will be venturing out alone and to be prepared to face the lack of communication because she will not respond from here on out and that people can be worse than momsters.

Skye started to worry if she was being abandoned again but Scathach said she was stuck in Skye's mind till she finished the inheritance.

This reassured Skye who checked her essentials again.

Clothes check.

Underclothes check.

Lots of drinking water check.

Lots of food check.

Toiletries check.

Knives check.

Blunt weapons such as bats and hammers check.

Gun with ammunition that she 'liberated' from a gangster check. Luckily he also had a silencer.

She put all the her luggage in her shadow. A nifty trick she discovered when playing with it.

She could also travel to and from the shadow to shadow in the room but it was too exhausting for such a small distance that she stopped using it. She wondered if she could do the same for longer distances but wasn't reckless enough to try it.....yet.

Before leaving she used the Mist on the inhabitants of the orphanage and gave her farewells to the kindly matron who took care of her for these years. She also left behind quite a bit of money that she got from many local gangsters who regularly mug the people.

Skye then set out on her journey.....no her hunt for monsters. She realized that the monsters somehow are able to find her and if there are then others like her through some form of smell or the like. Since they are preying on her then to her that means that are already part of the game.

And she will flip the game by turning from prey to predator.

She will go on a hunt for these creatures. She will ne their boogeyman and she will enjoy every moment.
