Chapter 118: Hasshoken!
—
Block C was interesting, and Hashirama recognized a lot of people from there. He had to mention that this tourney didn't have many of the participants from cannon since that tourney happened two years later. Bartolomeo wasn't here, for example.
So many of the original participants weren't here either, but many were. None of that mattered though, as more interesting parties were present here. With a few of the Beast Pirate members clearing the mobs for her, Ulti the Dino was sweeping the floor with stronger opponents.
Marigold hadn't taken any Kuja Pirates with her, and while he hadn't been present in the Block B game at the beginning, he doubted Marianne needed other Marine help either. To begin with, the fact that a Marine was participating while another was attending as a guest was an impossible concept to swallow, only possible due to Doffy pulling strings with the World Government.
Marigold and Marianne didn't take help from their respectable factions, but Ulti was using her subordinates. He couldn't read her expression due to her mask, but she seemed a little pissed at that – probably being forced by All-Star King to take help.
"The stronger of the arena usually avoided fighting at the beginning, more so if they had a group fighting for them. To conserve energy for the bigger fighters. So it's odd to see her go all out and start to clear the number, while even Don Chinjao is waiting behind his grandsons, only moving if a stray fool comes his way."
Rebecca commented as she watched the match beside Hashirama and Marigold. Hashirama had his Observation Haki running to observe everything in the field, unwilling to miss on someone with unique powers.
Sadly, while Hashirama noticed a few, mostly movement skills, they didn't really interest him much. In the end, it was Hasshoken alone that had his attention. How could he not be attracted to the idea of performing a low-budget Buddha Palm of the current Fleet Admiral?
In his Golden Buddha form, Sengoku's palm attacks were said to rival the quakes of Whitebeard. The two powers were very similar since they both worked with vibration as their base, but the application was slightly different. Hasshoken used vibration too, but its application was similar to Sengoku's palm blasts than the otherwise more feared Whitebeard's earthquake.
Hashirama once more found himself lost in fantasy, as all the thousand hands of his Wooden Buddha would use Hasshoken to clash with Sengoku's palm blasts. He wondered if a thousand Hasshoken at once could rival a single of those blasts, or simply overpower it.
"Tch, dammit."
Hashirama cursed, but the two girls beside him took that as a worry for Beidou, who was just hit on her thigh by some boxing guy. However, Hashirama wasn't worried about that, he had reacted remembering his rejection a month ago.
Naturally, Hashirama had asked Beidou – jokingly, he must add – to teach him the secrets of Hasshoken. Beidou had nearly attacked him back then. So obviously, he couldn't learn this juicy technique from her, she valued it a lot. That left him to try this on either of her two brothers, Boo and Sai, or Don Chinjao himself.
'Impossible with the gramps, Sai is strong-willed too. That Boo guy, though…'
Hashirama couldn't help but grin behind his mask as Boo came to coincidentally clash with Beidou, who had just beaten the boxing guy even though he was still in the arena, having been saved by someone larger who seemed to be his brother.
Boo was using Hasshoken, but Beidou was stronger than him even without using her family technique. With her fish-sword in hand, she was handling herself well, until something weird happened.
The boxing guy who had attacked Beidou was… a jacket now? His brother, a very muscular man, put on the jacket and suddenly there was an odd sight.
"Whoa, that's much grosser than seeing it on a 2D screen."
Hashirama couldn't help but wow at the sight, seeing the legendary Jacket-Jacket Fruit at work. Seriously, who wished for that Fruit to take a life?
Now a 10 feet giant of a man, the jacket-man was suddenly levels stronger. He kicked the ground and appeared right in front of Beidou, about to attack. Boo attacked him on the back, annoyed seeing his prey getting taken, as the jacket-man stopped attacking Beidou and angrily turned at Boo.
The next scene was devastating.
* * *
Beidou nearly froze at the sight ahead.
"Agh! Augh! Ugh!"
- Boom! Bang! Dum!
Dozens of punches were thrown, and none returned. Punches hit Boo, her older brother, who failed to attack back. His nose crunched, and his teeth broke apart, and soon his eyes went blank.
Yet, the jacket monster didn't stop attacking him. Beidou realized she would have been in a similar state if Boo hadn't withdrawn the monster's attention from her.
"…No."
Beidou shook herself out of the daze. Similar state? Nope, that wasn't true. She was stronger, and that was without using Hasshoken. So what if she were to use it?
Beidou gritted her teeth and clutched the colorful orbs in her pockets. With these, she may be able to make a difference but… beating this bastard wouldn't feel as good if she didn't use her hands.
Beidou made a last moment decision, just when Boo was about to be thrown in the water with dangerous man-eating fishes, and jumped in the air. With her sword above her head, she struck down the monster from behind.
- [Hasshoken]!
A blunt force hit the man in the back, but that shouldn't have been enough. But as a ripple of tremors went through his head, ignoring the defense of his skull and hitting his brain, the tall man stumbled on his feet as Boo fell on his back just on the edge of the arena.
Beidou didn't stop attacking, putting all her experience from sailing in the sea for two years into practice, each of her blows lethal as the monster was suddenly on the receiving end now.
Yet, amidst all her attacks, the jacket bastard curled up a fist and launched it at her.
"Beidou!"
But at the last moment, a kick hit the man on his chest and he went flying into the water. Beidou wasn't the one who kicked him. No, it was an angry man.
"Beidou, you gremlin! I thought it was you, but it really is you!"
Beidou held on to her sword tight as she looked in front of her, at Sai who glared at her. As she took a gulp, sighed and took off her mask, her brother started crying.
"My little sis'! Come here, come to my arms!"
Beidou didn't fall for it, her brother had emotional problems. She knew that, but she still felt odd seeing him cry. Her family was backdated, seeing women as less than men, that's why she was hated for trying to wield a sword, and that's why she had run away. However, her family did love her – they wanted to keep her safe, and that's why they didn't let her fight. Beidou felt a little odd seeing Sai cry, and despite his condition, she knew he meant it.
However, she also knew it was a good idea that she hadn't gone to his arms as he had asked. His emotions changed in a second as he growled.
"Why did you run away?! You need to be taught a lesson! Come here!"
Beidou sighed as she recognized there was no point in holding back anymore. With the Pop Green between her fingers, she went ahead to clash against her brother, the current leader of the Happo Navy – someone who was leagues stronger than her just two years ago.
* * *
"Damn, she gave up on the mask." Hashirama whistled at that, making a note to not do that. "Don Chinjao looks furious. He may have ripped her apart if he wasn't so busy."
Hashirama was observing both the battle between Beidou and Sai and also the fight between Don Chinjao and Ulti.
In less than ten minutes, the arena was almost clear, with just five more people remaining other than these four. Some unlucky bunch were caught in the clashes between the two monsters and were immediately out of the match.
Hashirama had made a bad calculation. Ulti was strong, and while her Haki was slightly weaker than Chinjao, her Zoan body made up for it, along with her speed. He should have expected that; Chinjao was 76 years old, with his main power lost, while Ulti was still reaching her prime, currently 20 years old.
Though in Chinjao's defense, he hadn't lost to Ulti's head-butts even with his blunt head. Ulti's main choice of attack was head-butting, so it was very strong, but apparently not strong enough to bother the legendary former Drill. She had to use her Dragon-Dragon Fruit, Pachycephalosaurus Model to transform into the said dinosaur, looking quite funny, but large enough to match Chinjao's height.
The battle from there only grew intense, but never enough to repair Chinjao's head like Luffy had, while also not enough for Ulti to lose. Ulti was strong, but her great defense paled in front of Hasshoken's defense-ignoring properties. While Chinjao was too old to simply overpower this young dinosaur. It was an equal match.
"Die!"
"Manners!"
Their battle shouts were interesting.
By now, only a few Beast Pirates remained, and despite Ulti telling them not to interfere, they rushed to attack Don Chinjao – only to be squatted like flies, and it was ironic because their Slime Fruit was that of a fly, and a bat and a bird.
Now, only the two of them and on the side, Beidou and Sai remained. That match was coming to a conclusion too; Beidou seemed more confident, realizing her skill level was closer to his, and on top of that she had the advantage of Pop Greens.
Currently, she seemed to drag the battle. Hashirama guessed she didn't want to finish right away, in case the two monsters decided to take her out. So she kept up with Sai, who she at least knew would help her if Ulti attacked.
"How sad. If the three of them team up against Ulti, one of them would win. They are family, so it's good if any of them wins. Yet, they are so mad that they aren't thinking." said Hashirama, as Rebecca turned to give him a look.
"You're back already?"
"Yeah, fast bathroom break."
Nobody knew that this Hashirama was a clone, while the real one was having a very civilized conversation with Boo.
* * *
Beidou was enjoying the fight with Sai, and even Sai had gotten serious by then. To think she was this much stronger in just two years! Now she felt her decision to run away was the best choice in her life, she would never have been this strong otherwise.
Sadly, she wasn't strong enough. Well, neither was Sai. Because when things got really serious and their Grampa began to shoot out waves of Conqueror's Haki, the two of them were rendered disoriented. They didn't fall unconscious, and it was harder to give their all.
But Beidou had seen worse. She once again realized what a monster Hashirama was, recalling the intense will she had felt that day. This was nowhere close to that, despite it being her grandfather who she was scared shitless of.
So, she not only overpowered Sai but managed to throw him between the two monsters. It was sudden, and Chinjao was caught off guard for a moment, holding back a punch. Ulti didn't hold back and her tail swiped at Sai, casually him off the battlefield.
"Oh. Damn, oopsie."
Beidou realized that was a mistake. Chinjao grew furious and turned to her, but that gave Ulti a chance to attack his back, making Beidou furious in turn. Beidou rushed to attack Ulti, but to her annoyance, her grandpa didn't help her, he attacked her instead, throwing her off the arena with a strong punch.
That allowed Ulti another attack, as she head-butted Chinjao on his belly. The old man too was thrown out of the arena, leaving only Ulti behind.
["That's a wrap! Nobody knows what the hell happened in the last few seconds, that weird sequence of attacks, but everyone else is officially out! Leaving Ulti, of the glorious Flying Six, as the victor!"]
Ulti returned to her human form, giving a smug glare at the spectators while laughing at the three fools who had basically knocked each other out.
Hashirama shook his head from the waiting room, while King the Wildfire looked at the scene with a pleased nod.
Next, it was Hashirama's match.
