Chapter 1 (Born in Darkness)

Everything was pitch black, well, other than the blue square of light. On it we're the words "Activating System" and a loading bar beneath it, and by the looks it seemed I was going to be waiting for a while. Was this just some dream, I was pretty sure I had passed away in that damn hospital. As I was recalling my time in that bed, the loading bar had finished and words were appearing on the panel. Along with the words came a monotone woman's voice which read each word that appeared on the screen, "Before starting our evaluation of your past life achievements and desires, in would be most beneficial to inform you that you are no longer a part of your previous world." Her voice seemed more in my head than out loud.

"Wait what do you mean by 'no longer a part of my previous world'" There is no way that this could be real… right?

"Your, what you humans would call a soul, has left your previous body and is currently being lead through space and time to a new host, or in words you'll understand, you have died and are being reincarnated" Even though her tone never change I could feel the sarcasm in each and every word.

Really I couldn't care less about what had happened to me, I was more so worried about what was going to happen, so I asked her about the evaluation she had mentioned earlier. "In order to place you into an appropriate new body and to create skills that would suit you the best, information about you're previous life is used to do just that."

"So what type of information is used to determine one's skills"

"Strengths or weakness are mainly what are used give you skills so you're next life experience can be quite "enjoyable". Also one's desire at the end of their life may play a roll in what skills they get, or what kind of body they have in their next life. Every question asked after this point will delay the screening process and prolong your time here, so it is suggested that you allow the process to continue." I could tell she was trying to hurry up the process, so I told her she could begin the evaluation.

After a bit of silence, words began appearing on the blue screen once again, "Acquired skill evaluation starting: Due to high IQ skill "Observe" has been acquired. Due to extensive knowledge on blood and DNA, skill "DNA Mutation" has been acquired. A random skill will now be acquired .. .. .. unique skill "System: Akane" has been acquired . . . Error conflicting skills found, replacing "observe"with skill "System: Akane". New random skill being acquired to replace the deleted skill .. .. .. skill "Ever-changing eyes" acquired. Starting body creation: Due to high stress and emotional fluctuation before death, subject's body will be immune to mental attacks. Due to final wishes subject's body will stop aging on its 23rd rotation of the sun. All information has been gathered and the evaluation was successful, preparing to transmit "soul" to new body."

Soon after the voice finished talking I could feel my body, or whatever I was at the moment, being sucked away from the screen and into the darkness. Once the blue panel was no longer in sight, I was immediately blinded by a light that filled the darkness. I squinted to try and discern my surroundings when a figure above me came into view followed by a soft voice, "My little Nori."
