I'll Be Seeing You...

Kai sighed heavily. "Will you let me go if I tell you?"

"Only one way to find out boy."

"You could just tell me" Kai retorted.

"I could but what's the fun in that? Now answer my question before I lose my patience..." Jarlan trailed off but the threat couldn't have been clearer.

"Sounds to me you're scared of her" Kai couldn't help but taunt Jarlan, but part of him was curious if maybe that was the case.

At that moment a glint of anger showed itself in Jarlan's eye, this time Kai was the one who noticed the minute change in his opponent.

"Hahaha, so I'm right? Are you afraid I'm someone close to her?"

[Segment Destroyed: Neck]

A root wrapped itself tightly around Kai's neck, shattering the shield around it.

"You should have stopped while you were ahead boy"

The grip around Kai's neck tightened as he started to struggle to breathe. A series of messages slowly started to appear before his eyes.

[-5HP]

[-5HP]

[-5HP]...

Jarlan was slowly choking him to death, bit by bit Kai's HP decreased.

"I don't know who you are, or how you're related. But in the end, I guess it doesn't really matter." Jarlan declared with a sigh.

"I will commend you for one thing boy. You have impressed me with your defiance. Such a shame. Such a shame indeed. If only I didn't meet you here. Oh just thinking of the fun we could have had sends shivers down my spine." Jarlan sensually moved his hands over his body as he imagined what could have been.

...[-5HP]

[-5HP]

[-5HP]...

Kai continued to lose HP, he had a fair bit so he had to slowly suffocate to death. He was certain that Jarlan could have easily crushed his neck. 'This sadist is enjoying this' He thought.

"Any last words boy?" Jarlan glanced at Kai with a face filled with anticipation but the next moment it was as if it was never there, replaced instead with false concern.

Hearing no response from Kai, Jarlan tried once more.

"Well? No need to feel choked up" Jarlan giggled like a schoolgirl.

Kai started to black out, he could feel his consciousness fading as his HP became lower and lower.

Just as he was losing all hope.

[Warning! Host in critical danger]

[Analyzing situation]

[Initiating Emergency Protocol]

[Shutting down Host cognitive function]

As the last message popped into Kai's head he blacked out but it wasn't that simple.

'What's going on? Am I dead?' Kai asked questions but heard nothing. He was currently standing in what was best described as nothingness.

An endless expanse of black as far as the eye could see. He felt cold, colder than he has ever felt. Even in his past life Kai always had an affinity for the cold. So much so that in the winter he could walk around in nothing but shorts and still feel like it was summer.

But never in his life has he felt this cold, it was as if his entire being, every single tiny molecule was being frozen. He could feel his blood flowing through his body as if it was an icy river while his muscles contracted.

Despite this, his mind remained tranquil. He felt cold. Freezing cold, he didn't know where he was or even what was going on.

'Maybe I really am dead' he thought, but even with those thoughts, he was calm. Shockingly calm. As if what he felt was how he was always supposed to feel. As if he was supposed to be the personification of cold itself.

'Huh, what is that?' Looking slightly up Kai saw a single dot falling to the ground. As it gently fell by his eye Kai saw that it was a snowflake.

The snowflake dropped to the ground and as it touched the endless void a flash of bright white light exploded, enveloping Kai and forcing him to shut his eyes.

.

.

.

The bright light disappeared as fast as it appeared.

Kai slowly opened his eyes, as he opened them a cloud of white breath was the first thing he saw. He could feel his body that felt cold warming up.

As he gained his bearing he glanced at his arm which was right in front of him.

DRIP

DRIP

DRIP

Kai felt something drop onto his arm, still slightly dazed he looked up to see Jarlan's face.

He looked to be bleeding golden blood as he coughed once more sending the golden substance dripping from his mouth.

"Hahaha, that was very cool, boy..."

"I guess the turns have tabled as they say" Jarlan continued making jokes but they just landed on deaf ears.

'What's going on? Why am I alive? Why is Jarlan like that? Was this because of the emergency protocol?' Kai was desperately trying to figure out what happened but the only thing for certain was that the system had something to do with it.

"I guess my time is up, it was fun while it lasted. But before I go. thank you for answering my question boy."

Kai looked at Jarlan with confusion. 'I answered his question? When did I do that?'

"I'll be seeing you... Kai Rose" Jarlans voice echoed as his body fell apart turning into what looked like sawdust.

[You have slain 'A Seed of Jarlan']

[Level Up]

[Level Up]

[Level Up]

[Level Up]

[Level Up]...

A series of messages continued to pop up for Kai but he paid no attention to them. He was completely exhausted and weary from the events.

'Haa, a seed of Jarlan... And those words... I'd rather not see him again...'

Kai straightened himself out, cracking his back in progress. With the many level up's, his body returned to peak condition.

"Ahhh, that felt good" Kai spoke out loud.

He slicked his hair back as the moonlight shone upon him. The moonlight made his pale white skin even paler as the drying crimson blood became more vibrant.

He was standing around the corpses of the highwaymen, their blood already seeped into the thin layer of snow.

Kai glanced at the bodies of the dead men. He felt that he should feel something, after all. He had killed them. It might have been him or them but if he wasn't so arrogant they would have never even had the chance to look at him.

Looking at the various corpses, headless, skewered, frozen... While not as gruesome as some of the stories he has heard in his past life, it made him question himself. Was his mindset not right? Or maybe this was his true nature.

Whatever the case was, Kai, didn't care as much about it as he cared about Leah. More specifically how she would react if she saw him then. 'Will she be afraid if she sees me like this?'

And as if on queue, Kai heard a voice that sounded like it was on the verge of tears.

"...Kai?..."
