Small City

The wooden carriage drawn by the horse reached the gates of the small city we had been traveling to for three days. We passed through the gates as I waved for Frost to get off.

"Be careful Artemis." Mr. Burns the driver said as I jumped down from the carriage.

"You too. If you ever need anything ask me." I said and walked along the streets with a spring in my step.

The walls of this small city weren't very high but surrounded the entire place. The place was built around a hill making some sections a slight uphill climb. I smelled the fresh baked goods and heard the clanging of metals. I walked around the housing district mostly where the inns and rented housing were. I stopped noticing all the weird stares at me as Frost walked beside me in his cat-like way.

"Okay, we need to get a scroll," I said walking around trying to find a magic shop.

I saw plenty of places but none had any magical items other than weapons. Finally, I found a small shop filled with books and a scroll with an old man sitting behind his desk.

"Hello, I'm looking for a scroll," I said pointing at Frost.

Frost gave me a sad pitiful face but I ignored it pointing at him.

"Ah, summoners or tamers scroll." The man asked getting up slowly and using his cane for balance.

"What could a put him in," I asked.

"A summoning scroll would work for that." He said pulling a dusty scroll from his shelf.

"It's thirty silver considering how hard these are to come by." The man said placing the scroll down.

I pulled one of the sacks of coins off my belt and placed it on the desk with a satisfying clink. I had two more just like it tied to my belt. I started counting the coins out until it had only ten left in the pouch.

"And that makes thirty," I said placing them in his open hands.

"Thanks for the business. You should know I have some beast scrolls coming in next week. Might have something good." He said turning around and placing the money in a metal box.

"I might just have to come back," I said turning to Frost.

"Okay, buddy. I will let you later Okay." I said opening the scroll up both ways.

I had Frost place his nose on the scroll as he became a vortex entering the scroll. The once-empty scroll now should have a picture of Frost with his name at the top right. I quickly rolled the scroll up and left. I made my way around a block smelling something sweet.

"I can't remember the last time I had something with sugar," I said looking around.

I walked looking for the source of the sweet smell and finding a bakery. It was called "Salty and Sweet." I walked in seeing as the large windows let in the light. Not very many people were in here but the place was rather big. I walked up to the counter and looked inside the glass displays. Cakes and cupcakes with sweetbreads next to candies were named accordingly.

"They all look so good," I whispered looking at each as a girl came out with some flour on her apron.

"What can we get for you." She asked politely.

"Could I get a slice of this cake," I said pointing to a vanilla cake covered in chocolate frosting with cherries on top. "And some of those cookies," I asked.

"Of course let me get that ready for you." She said grabbing the cake.

She cut a slice and placed it on a nice plate placing it on the counter.

"Are the cookies on the go?" She asked grabbing a small bag.

"Yes there," I said grabbing one of the spoons and placing the cake on a table.

I turned around to grab the bag as an older man with a broad chest came out most likely her father. I grabbed the bag and sat down watching them while enjoying the cake. It was so sweet and hit the spot with each bite. I opened the bag and saw ten cookies stacked on each other inside. I walked over to the counter with the man.

"Sorry, I forgot to pay," I said grabbing some coins.

"The cake should be three silver and two silver for each cookie." He said and I was shocked.

"Twenty-three silver it is then," I said placing the coins in stacks of five with the last one as three.

"Oh, you got ten cookies. If that's the case it should be only one silver cookie." He said take thirteen silver and push them back to me.

"Thanks," I said placing the money away.

I walked out happily seeing the sun going down. I saw a nice inn earlier I might try there first. I walked around a little lost but found my way back eventually. I walked inside where there was a happy vibe inside with people drinking and telling stories. I walked over to the person behind the desk with a sign hanging over the window called inn service.

"Hello, can I get a room for the night?" I asked politely.

"Sure thing. What kind of room do you be need-in? We have larger ones for people with pets and smaller ones for travelers.

"A larger one would be nice," I said as pulled some out.

"Okay, you'll need to sign your name on this so we know the rooms were taken and by who." He said handing,e a pencil.

I struggled to write my name as I never actually wrote before however he helped me and I paid him silver for the room. I went up stair and found the room was a nice size. It had a large woven green carpet in the shape of an oval on the floor with the bed to the left against the wall. Right, to left was a dress, and straight from the door next to the head of the bed was a desk and chair.

"Nice room indeed," I said closing the door.

I opened the scroll as Frost jumped out from looking like ink to taking his normal form.

'Might take a while to get used to that.' I thought sitting on the bed looking out the window.

"I need a job," I said as Frost laid down on the large carpet stretching to take up the entire thing.

I could try to get a job with the royal family here. Aren't they like the Barons of this place? I looked outside as the moon took over.

"That's tomorrow's problem," I said trying to fall asleep.

Hope you enjoyed. Creation takes both time and effort.
