Gawain’s Rebellion: A Mage’s Journey to the Past to Defeat the Gods Chapter 1

On the outskirts of the Empire's Capital, tens of thousands of soldiers surrounded Gawain as he stood on a mountain of corpses, crying at the betrayal of his many comrades that he had slain. The general of this Army yelled across the vast river of blood between him and Gawain, "Gawain, why didn't you just obey the Emperor?

Why didn't you prostrate before the gods and pledge yourself for the mighty empire."

Gawain yelled while in tears, "Why would I prostrate before those false deities who call themselves gods when they allow the bloodshed of thousands of innocent lives just for the chance to grow their influence just to overthrow the many gods that we fight meaningless battles against."

The general responded in an annoyed tone, " If I were to question the intentions of the mighty beings I would end up like you, the last mage of the old empire who still holds the false belief that the gods envy the power of magic that humans as it is the only power that can stand against them!"

The General followed up with, "Even if that was true how come all the mages died a dog's death before those gods you say envy their power?"

Gawain mind and body went numb as he started to cast the strongest spell he could manage. This spell is 10 star Black hole a spell never before seen as it was Gawain's creation meant for killing the gods themselves. An arrow stabbed into Gawain's skull, going through his weakened defenses. Because Gawain was moving so much dark mana, it went berserk letting out an explosion corrupting the souls of the soldiers and heavily damaging the gods as well. This explosion was only stopped when the World Tree intervened stopping the dark energy from breaking the barrier that protected the mortal realm from being invaded but the forbidden realms that lie and wait for a chance to take over.

As Gawain lay there covered in the blood of his once-allies he pondered as to why he was not dead, he knew that he had taken the arrow to the brain which should have killed him instantly, but there he was still "alive". He regretted how many lives he had taken knowing what the power surge that came out of him would do. As he lay on the battlefield he noticed that the bodies around him were decaying at a fast rate, faster than anything he had seen before. Before he knew it the ground around him aged, storms rolled by at lightning past before everything froze completely. When he woke up out of his dazed state he realized he was floating in an empty void. In an instant a being larger than any of the mountains he had ever seen appeared. "Gawain you challenged the gods thinking they were the ones who caused all the bloodshed you hated so much. You are right but yet you are wrong, because if not for us the beings of creation of the elder gods they would have never taken that route of despair and destruction."

Gawain still in a daze felt fear that transcendental something one mind could produce as it was like every fiber of his being was shaking in fear because of the being that stood before him. Gawain gathering his wits resonated, " Why am I still alive even after having a fatal wound no magic could heal?"

The Elder god smirked and said, "Because you have caught our interest and we would like to see you try again, we want you to conquer the gods and make the forbidden realms ."

Gawain confused asked, "Why can't you just do these things yourself, from the way you speak you are beyond even the strongest beings that I have seen."

The Elder god glared at him before saying, "That just isn't as fun, we the Elder gods live in the abyss where nothing happens so we strive for anything that might bring us entertainment. This is the only reason you and everything you know exists, YOU are nothing but a toy only meant to entertain until you are thrown away, see to it that we never throw you away. We will put you a thousand years in the future which should be as developed as the world you lived in."

Gawain, annoyed by not understanding any of this just nodded before saying, "How am I to venture out into the Forbidden realms if the World Tree keeps a barrier to separate the lands."

The Elder god annoyed at this mortal's questions said, "Do whatever you can to venture to those lands, even if it means burning the World Tree to the ground, we will ensure that the Realm does not split." Before Gawain could speak another word he awakened and was lying on a dirt path. He felt within his body that he had lost all magic, not only did he lose his magic his body we close to death from a lack of nutrients. As he observed his surroundings he noticed a carriage driving toward him albeit a distance away. Gawain noticed that the mana in the air was completely different from what he used to know, it was like a completely different type of magic. As the Carriage came near it stopped and a man stepped out.

The Knight looking at Gawain said, "What brings you out here so close to the Eleven Taratory, you should know how dangerous those damned elves are."

Gawain is still dazed after dying not long ago in his mind and with the Elder God. Gawain awakening from deep thought responded with, "Ah is that where I am, I am Gawain Everbright and seem to be very lost."

The Man confused by Gawains response said, "Ah sorry for the late introduction, I'm Kane Treznor a traveling merchant, you look horrible, care to join me to the closest city."

Gawain in a respectful tone replied, "Nice to meet you Mr.Treznor it would be delightful if you were to harbor me until we get to the city." With this Gawain albeit a bit unstable made his way into the Carriage along with Kane and they started for the city.
