“You’re ridiculous.” I kissed her temple.

“But you love me.”

“Yeah, I do.”3

It took some smooth talking, but eventually I had Jackson convinced that I wasn’t seriously hurt and I didn’t need medical attention. When I ran around the office building at full speed and didn’t even wince, he eventually relented. My ankle twinged a bit, but I kept the pain off my face. And managed not to limp. I’d ice it when I got home, wrap it in an ace bandage, and take some Ibuprofen. Then I’d be good to go.

Because I was making it to Rooster’s tonight.

Jackson couldn’t leave the campground when we had guests, and Wade wasn’t a fan of big crowds. I gave them both the option to come along, but I knew they’d turn me down. Everett and Drew, on the other hand, were completely on board with accompanying me.

“I swear, I’ll even tone it down. No pink or sparkles or anything.” Everett gave me a cheeky grin, and I had to work not to smile in response.
