Chapter 6

“We’re okay!” I yelled. “Be right there.” After a final visual inspection of Liam, I asked, “Ready to get out of here?”

He nodded, and I rose to my feet, grabbed his wrist, and slung his arm around my neck. Tinkerbell danced around us, keeping a stern eye on me to make sure I didn’t hurt Liam worse.

“You sure you’re strong enough to support my weight?” he asked with a smirk.

“You really have to ask me that? I’ve hauled you to the X-ray table enough times for you to know what I’m capable of.” I bent my knees. “Ready?”

“Yeah.”

His grip on me tightened as we worked together to get him up. When he tried supporting his weight on his injured foot, he grimaced.

“You okay?” I asked.

He took my question seriously and shifted his weight until he stood on both feet. “I am. It’s probably not even a sprain. Just a pissed off muscle.” He reached for Tinkerbell, and she pushed her head into his hand and whimpered. “I’m okay, girl,” he mumbled. “You did good.”
